I mean - Theyre billing Wolgast as the main star and he's only in the first tiny fraction of the series. Id guess the first season will go up until he and Amy escape to the cabin, right? Then what? They probably will find a way to keep Wolgast around.
Spoiler: Episode 1 This is all weird. Babcock is a chick, Amy was at a foster home instead of the convent. We didnt get that nun. Amy's personality is completely different. Way too spunky
all of this. also 100% these are going to be so true. which is fine - if they make a compelling show. i just hope they do that
I dont mind them switching up genders. Babcock and Sykes being women - no big deal. Wolgast is a little more charming than in the books, but I htink that's because they changed Amy's personality completely. That's hard to overlook. They made Carter too smart. He's supposed to be a country bumpkin. I didnt hate the show. I had low expectations. I can even forgive the change in Amy and Wolgast, because I think it's hard to have two somber and withdrawn characters on TV without having the internal dialogue of the books to get to know them.
I almost wonder if they are going to turn Wolgast essentially into the Peter role. I didn't hate the first episode, I mainly am just pissed it isn't on HBO. I think the show could be extremely good and we are going to end up getting like a 6/10 version. Also, in the books is Amy white or black? Just genuinely curious as I can't remember
Started The Twelve today. Also watched the first episode and while it was fine, definitely seems like a what-could’ve-been situation with it being in on network TV instead of HBO or another premium network
So I started reading the first book because I’m enjoying the series quite a bit and very pleased with my decision. Are all three of the books high quality, or is there a drop?
The first two are really really good. I was underwhelmed w the third but I think because my expectations were sky high. How far into it are you ?
Not even 25% into the first, but a big fan so far. Also, posters I trust on here when it comes to books I will enjoy like The Blackfish are fans. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the read.
The Passage is one of my favorite books, and the entire series is one my faves as well. Cronin is so good at writing these characters' emotional weight they carry.
I liked them in this order - 1, 3, 2. Liked 2 a lot more on the re-read. There's a big portion of book 3 (150-200 pages iirc, been three years almost since I read it) that seemed pretty divisive for the board. I found them compelling and awesome + sad when they were done. But a lot of others thought they were boring.
Spoiler: Episode3 Not bad. I havent lost complete faith in this show yet. However, Idc they changed Babcock and made her a woman, but giving Babcock a sympathetic backstory is bad. Booooo
The girl they cast as Amy is just delightful. Also, in book news, I am almost finished with the first book. Really enjoying it. I’d be well into the second now if I wasn’t so busy with work.
Episode 4 Spoiler - They made Carter have an affair w the woman. Theyre fucking him all up. Other than that - good episode. It's weird. I like this show despite tarnishing most of the characters that make the book so special
I don’t necessarily mind, but it seems like they are going to stretch the first 1/3 of the first book into a season. Makes sense as to some of the plot alterations. They need material that simply isn’t in the book
Re-reading this series over the Christmas holiday. I’ll never forget the first time I read this in the recommendation of Truman. Loaded up the audiobook without even looking at what the story was. Drove up to Kalamazoo with the biggest WTF look on my face the whole way
Of course I forgot to download the full book before I boarded my flight, so I missed out on 4 hours of this book tonight. But I’m still looking forward to the re-read
