it's definitely the most personal song I've heard from him, by far. I think most of Felker's songs have at least an element of his life in them but often he uses a composite of different people or speaks in the 3rd person but this seems to be straight up about his last few years.
I am in line now. Apparently, the lots filled up way earlier than the two hours before the show posted. I was walking to the upper north lot and talked to the lady that was working the line. She told me to come to the East entrance and there is less than 100 people in front of me now.
520. But I done know if there is a line for only ga. If there is, I wasn’t in that one They only made 300 posters. Luckily I got one
I’m over at So Many Roads Brewing and just caught The Damn Quails sound check so that was sweet. They go on at 11 for the Billy Strings after party.
Billy Strings at Mission was the best show I've been to. 3 hour show with a 20 minute intermission and they fucking killed it and Norm Peterson met Patton Oswalt in our hotel and I missed it cause I had to take a shit
Excuse the capitalization. Set list: Every girl 7& 7 Morgan street Shreveport Good lord lorrie Wrecked winding stair Bird hunters Something to hold onto Gin smoke lies house fire Kansas City southern Whole damn town Pay no rent Tornado warning Diamonds and gasoline Drunk high and loud Long hot summer day Encore 1968 Long drive home
Ended up selling my ticket for tonight. Someone pleas post the set list so I can hate myself. Y’all have fun!
Turnpike’s tour bus is parked at our hotel this morning so apparently we’re staying at the same hotel as they are.
Evan played Cat in the Rain again but interestingly with a completely different 2nd verse. Just a hell of a song.
Wow. I could tell he was still tinkering with it the first show he played it, and he probably still is. Truly amazing to watch it happen in real time. Great song.
How long did you stand in merch line? Got to upper at 6 pm. Got into venue at 7:15 (mid reckless set). Headed to merch line. Was there until midway Shovels. Brutal. Got poster
I got there when the doors opened and went to the small merch stand on stage right. Maybe 10 minutes there, but they weren’t selling posters. Found out they were selling them at the merch stand at the top of the venue, so stood in that line for maybe 10 minutes too.
Heading to Omaha. Turnpike/Steve Earl/Old 97s tonight. Whiskey Myers/Shane Smith and the Saints tomorrow night.
Phenomenal show. All 3 acts were great. Turnpike with a sober Evan Felker is so much better than they were before. Absolutely incredible difference. Felker looked like he was actually having a blast on stage rather than staring into space with dead eyes while he sang. Paid $11 this morning for pit tickets and got right on the rails.
Turnpike was great. Evan is locked in and better than ever. Steve Earle was on the side of the stage for a large chunk of the show just watching. It was cool just watching him watch the band. RC sang All Your Favorite Bands, which is always fun but they didn’t play any new songs.
Whiskey Myers kicked ass. Just a really fun live band. Wife and I were probably the only two Biden voters in the whole place and at one point there was a Lets Go Brandon chant happening in the beer line, but it is what it is. Shane Smith and the Saints were also great, but some dude named Warren Zeiders, who wasn’t even on the bill, weirdly played after Shane and right before WM. He came off as a prototypical 22 year old bro country chud. Wouldn’t stop talking about himself, bitching about gas prices and the government. His music sucked and I wanted to punch him.
I just cannot get into Whiskey Myers. Their lyrics come across as very Kid Rock-esque to me. I like Mud, but The Wolf and Bitch really turn me off of them.
I get it. I think I’m a just a sucker for their southern rock/Skynyrd influenced sound and the double lead guitars.
Turnpike’s set at Telluride Bluegrass Festival will be streamed free live at 7:00 p.m. MDT tomorrow (6.19) at https://www.koto.org/
