I’m so proud, you know how long I’ve been hoping my team got accused of cheating? Just wish they were better at it
Dude said this story would “change the balance of power out west”, if it’s about ASU he’s permanently on the shit list of bullshit hucksters. Like, even if we were ritually sacrificing recruits it would change precisely nothing in the balance of power out West.
Hopefully this doesn't derail Pierce's rise. Guy was looking like a no-doubt HC candidate with his recruiting prowess
He was just trying to prove his SEC bonafides, because everyone in the SEC had secret visits during COVID too, to update the resume. In all seriousness, everything at ASU runs through Pierce so it’s his show, whatever happened.
People thought he was completely out of his element in college football but it looks like he adapted pretty quickly
Love the 247 all access during times like these. One of their posters say two coaches blew the whistle.
Kevin Mawae, of all people, salty because AP ruled him out of the open OL coach for being a lazy recruiter as an “analyst”.
Getting busted doing in person visits during the Covid shutdown is probably a big deal because there are teams that flat out couldn’t have visitors at that time and I am sure those schools are throwing a shit fit.
Also, ASU handled COVID worse than literally everyone so another indication they just flat didn’t give a fuck is pretty shitty, jokes aside
Anyone can (and should) pay a kid. Who cares. I get why the California schools would be pissed though when their state is completely shut down and ASU is going YOLO.
”I get up too early in the morning for some virus.” “Actually Coach the virus originated in China, and they are 12 hours ahead of us. So..”
Allegedly this was a deleted tweet from Mawae. Christensen was the OL Coach last year, who has since retired. With Mawae back to the pros, it seems like these two could burn it down and not have to worry about any consequences with trying to find new jobs.
He basically had an open audition at ASU because Christensen was known to be retiring and missed time for health reasons, letting Mawae act as a coach for recruiting purposes. He was useless, just flat out didn’t give a shit. So when the job at ASU opened up he wasn’t even considered, despite his relationship with Herm
When asked specifically about meeting with recruits and parents during the dead period in a text message, Edwards told Yahoo: “No comment thanks.” At a time when the application of NCAA rules by the enforcement staff has been fickle, the prospect of ASU committing run-of-the-mill recruiting violations is trumped by the brazen nature of hosting dozens of kids on campus during the pandemic. Yahoo Sports interviewed more than a dozen current or former ASU staff members this week. Multiple sources indicated that at least 30 players visited campus over a span of months, a practice so common coaches referenced “official visit weekends” in staff meetings, coaches bumped into recruits and families in a back stairwell and a routine developed of facility tours being given around 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. at night. On one weekend in October, there were so many high school kids visiting that a staff member parked a 12-person van in the staff parking lot to tour around recruits. The visits spanned months, sources said, including some in October, the weekend of the UCLA game in December and through the spring game, which one source said “was like an official visit weekend.” “It wasn’t a secret,” said a staff member with direct knowledge of the visits. “As far as knowing everyone who came into that [football] office, the number is too big and the names are too many. They would bring in parents, their moms and dads and friends. They’d get a facility tour like they were on an official visit. They’d show you the weight room and training room. They’d show you everything.” In perhaps the most extreme example of how normalized the illicit recruiting had become, one Bay Area prospect — who enrolled at a rival Pac-12 school — worked out with a position coach at a local park. The video of that workout was shot on a cell phone camera and then evaluated in an offensive staff meeting of more than a dozen coaches. Not only was the workout and visit against the rules, but the staffers evaluated the illegal workout on the illegal visit as if it were a recruit's high school game tape. The staff now must hope that same recruit and others like him don't detail their visits to the NCAA, which has leverage over the players' eligibility. lol
That anecdote is so specific I think I can identify the coach, former ASU WR and recently let go WR coach Derek Hagan, and Jermaine Terry, a TE from the Bay Area ASU expected to flip. Terry signing with Cal pretty much sealed Hagan getting the boot for Adam Breneman(a Pierce guy)
