Not going to lie, never been a big Ray Anderson fan...this is winning me over though. His unapologetic arrogance is made for this scenario. Of course, it could end in a "What are you going to do, stab me?" sort of disaster but let's live ha
Finding this and the Mack thread from yesterday within minutes of each other definitely fucked up my expectations.
lol ASU coaches already speaking on the record seems like it’ll end poorly for people. Also kudos to Daniels mom for trying to bolster the roster for her son.
"While NCAA investigations are notoriously slow and generally ineffective because of the lack of subpoena power, the enforcement staff will have the powerful tool of being able to leverage the eligibility of players for the truth." The NCAA is the fucking worst.
these are the two of the recruits who Daniels mom bought flights for, supposedly: https://247sports.com/player/alfonzo-allen-46084012/ https://247sports.com/player/jaylin-marshall-46080131/
For sure this was super weird at the time, Florida recruits visiting on “their own” during a dead period. So, yeah, makes sense ha
Still blows my mind that coaches and the mother of your best player would talk to the media in the middle of an investigation.
Spoiler: Article TEMPE, Ariz. — Jean Boyd, a deputy athletics director who oversees the Arizona State football program, was made aware of potential recruiting violations during the winter, a former athletic department staff member told The Athletic. The staffer did not know whether Boyd investigated the information or kept it to himself. Reached by a reporter Thursday night, Boyd started a brief conversation by saying he could not comment on anything because of the NCAA’s ongoing investigation. Told of the allegation that he was informed of potential violations, he repeated, “I’m not going to comment on anything at all.” The Athletic first reported last week that the NCAA was investigating allegations that the football program hosted recruits during the 15-month non-contact period brought on by the pandemic. Arizona State confirmed the investigation. Since then, more details have surfaced, including claims that the football program arranged to pay for recruits’ expenses during unofficial visits, often through a third party. By NCAA rule, expenses of unofficial visits must be covered by the recruit or his parents or guardian. Behind vice president of athletics Ray Anderson, Boyd essentially is the No. 2 official in Arizona State athletics. If he or other officials were aware of potential violations and failed to intervene, Arizona State could face harsher penalties if the allegations are proven true and determined serious. Per NCAA rules, an institution could be found to have a lack of institutional control if it failed, in part, to make sure compliance measures are followed or if it failed to act swiftly upon learning of a major violation. A former Arizona State football player, Boyd has played a key role in Arizona State sports for years, earning respect inside and outside the program. This week the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals presented Boyd with a 2021 Distinguished Service Award, given to those who contributed beyond “the normal service required by positions of leadership.” Upon the 2017 hire of coach Herm Edwards, Boyd was labeled as a “GM” of sorts for the football program. When other schools tried to hire away key assistant coaches this past offseason, Edwards credited Boyd, along with Anderson and university president Michael Crow, for doing what was necessary to help keep them in Tempe. When the Pac-12 named George Kliavkoff as its new commissioner in May, Arizona State made both Anderson and Boyd available to take questions from local media. A timetable for the NCAA’s investigation is not known. Edwards’ involvement in the allegations also remains unclear, although a former coach told The Athletic last week that during the COVID-19 period he ran into recruiting assistants bringing a recruit to meet with Edwards. This week Yahoo! Sports reported the contents of a package sent to Arizona State compliance officials included a photo that appeared to show Edwards leading a top-100 recruit around the program’s weight room during the same dead period.
Sounds like Prentice Gil is next… if they dropping their young bagmen this early it’s going badly, fast.
Going to be lucky to make it to fall, that’s all 3 of APs main recruiters, meaning it’s clearly coming for him and Herm next
The ASU 247 mod might be my favorite analyst around. He put a video up of how off Daniels looked at practice and basically said he’s seen these same issues since camp started. It’s actually quite refreshing.
Especially considering Jayden has been the chosen one since he got here and anything perceived as critical is hand waved away when it comes from the outside. And he’s been pretty clear, without outright saying it because he can’t confirm it, that this is going to end very badly and that’s hard for the homers to hear ha
