Pretty much lol It kind of has to be for the sake of the comics being able to authentically workshop their stuff.
Coming into the city for the Rangers game tomorrow night. Where should I grab dinner with my wife and picky 10 year old around 4PM?
For bar pizza it’s good. The guy who started that is the owner of Williamsburg pizza. Big fan of the pizza there. He’s won a ton of competitions around the world.
Williamsburg pizza used to have this freshly chopped hot peppers and garlic in oil at the east village location years ago... that shit was so over the top good. They have a dumbed down version of it nowadays... wish they brought it back
Taking my GF for her 30th and also proposing next weekend. Staying at Public hotel again. Have all of the basic tourist places booked with Carbone, Minetta Tavern, Balthazar and Dante.
The restaurant in the Public Hotel, Popular, is insanely good, Latin American with some Japanese influence. Highly recommend trying it if you have an open meal slot. Can't go wrong with Carbone, pricey but food is amazing.
Lol, that is unfortunate it's the first thing anyone sees when they walk in that place. On the ground floor behind the escalators is their pisco bar and then behind that is the restaurant. On Saturday nights they get a band going in the bar around 10:30 and it's a good crowd. Solid if you want a nightcap with out leaving the hotel.
I went to the location in the Village probably 3-4 years ago. Was solid food with a good atmosphere. I'm a fan of good wine and shared plates so if you are too then you should enjoy it.
You have any cool bar recs in that area? Boilermaker was my chill spot and saw that it closed. I'm really into cocktails but my GF gets bored when I make her spend too much time at PDT and Death and Co. Mother's Ruin is sick in Nashville but haven't been to the one near Soho.
In the East Village/LES I would say it really depends what you're looking for (assuming you're avoiding the "trendy" places with 22-25 year olds waiting in long lines). Canary Club has live music (think Jazz) in the basement, reserve a table. Good drinks and cool spot. Joyface is on Ave C but it's a cool spot too, may be a bit younger and rowdier than you'd like but it's awesome. I like the bar inside The Standard East Village. Ray's right by Public is a hot spot right now, it's owned by Nicholas Braun and Justin Theroux I think, could be packed on a Saturday night.
Soho- East Village-LES. I am obsessed with cocktails so I know about PDT, Death and Co and other places like that. Looking for a place that is fun for 30 year olds but isn't a dance club.
I see the wires were crossed, I was referencing the West Village when speaking about Aria and mal630 was asking about the East Village.
I would use a west village rec as well. I was planning on shooting for Up and Up and Employees Only when we have dinner over there but haven't been to either.
Now if I can just put in half as much time into figuring out where to propose as I do securing dinner reservations I'll be set.
Where you propose is pretty insignificant imo. I did it in my driveway . Don’t overthink it, she’s going to be thrilled regardless.
can vouch for Up and Up. Great cocktails and intimate/quiet. We go there everytime we spend an evening in West Village (like once every 2-3 years) .
Heading to the city with the wife and kid for Spring Break on Saturday, how are things up there? I know they cleared away some of the mask mandates this week, are things starting to get back to normal?
pretty much. Vaccine passports go away tomorrow except for broadway shows. Masks aren’t mandatory, it’s about 50/50 with people wearing them.
Thanks mate, all triple vaxxed, do you know if they are asking for vax cards to get in places? We'll bring ours regardless, just curious
It’s up to the businesses themselves now if they want to ask for your vax card. I just ate indoors earlier and they didn’t ask for proof of vax.
Sugarfish Other Half Roc Magnolia (regular + hazelnut) Train to Bronxville Beer Noggin Johnny’s Pizza in Mt Vern My house for beers n bourbon and meeting little Fancy good day. Light work. I wanna die
What's the rule on minors in bars/tap rooms? Son is 15, are we limited to places with outdoor seating or can he be inside as long as he isn't partaking?
I needed to report back on Carbone. That was probably the best meal I have ever had. The food was good, but it was more how great the experience and service was. I know some of you have been, but for those who haven't, it is extremely small and we were in a side room with maybe 4 other tables. There was one guy who was basically in charge of cocktails. There was another lady I would call an expediter, she would come by and talk to your about what you want to order and help guide you if you wanted. She also was an expect at taking pictures which the girls want. I felt like they mastered the art of always being there to get you what you needed without hovering and it feeling weird. Also some hot girl in a red tuxedo making you a tableside caesar was pretty awesome.
we won't be getting to our hotel until probably 10 on Saturday night. Staying near Bryant Park, recommendations for a good late-night meal around there?
