Revisiting Patterson Hoods Heat Lightening album and man is it really strong. I absolutely love his solo stuff, kind of want another one.
Anyone that has been to one of the Isbell/FJM shows this tour, what time did opener go on? Trying to game plan for tonight and can’t find any info other than door at 7:00 PM. Thx
Doors at 6 tonight. Jade Bird goes on at 7. From what I’ve gathered she plays about 30 min then FJM for 60 and Isbell will close with 75-90 min set.
Wow. Not to drive a joke in the ground, but you wouldn't even come say hi to me. Good thing Lightning 100 picked me up as I drove to get some lunch.
New West Records is putting out a vinyl in August of Isbell Live at Twist and Shout Records in Denver. Recorded 11/16/07. Roughly 7 months after getting kicked from DBT. Not familiar with this festival, but sounds like a small crowd. That abrupt pause and exit midsong was odd, assume it was some bros talking during the set.
I'm a sucker for a good harmony, so I like it a good bit. Very interested to hear what the rest of the album sounds like though.
I thought I'd hate it. I like it. Announcing Margo and her not participating still cheapens it for me, somehow
Waiting around three months to respond to those allegations is surely going to make his excuses seem believable.
Woke up and had the “Ryan Adams tweeted for the first time in a while” notification from Twitter. Knew it wouldn’t be good.
Posted in a really old thread thanks to the search function, but I saw Isbell is playing an acoustic show in LA in January 2020.
I’ve seen him do two acoustic shows and by far, they have been my favorite shows. What type of venue will it be in?
Well, shit. Had tix to John Prine at Red Rocks this weekend, but it just got rescheduled. Apparently he’s at an elevated risk for stroke. Not sure how much longer he can continue to tour
Highwomen are 2-for-2 on good songs. New single, "Crowded Table." Co-written by Carlile, Hemby and Lori McKenna.
Redesigning Women has that Dixie Chicks, 90s country vibe to it and this new one feels more like what’s going on in the Americana scene. No surprise it was written by Carlile. Both are great.
Redesigning gives me 80s/90s vibes a la Dolly/Reba. Catchy, slightly tongue in cheek with a good hook that gets them exposure. Table is a great tune but like you said, Americana side comes thru more. They're getting a lot of air time on SiriusXM country stations. Awesome to witness.
Having Maren in the band certainly opens up some more mainstream avenues for them. That’s not to say Maren isn’t talented, because she is and has a great voice, but still.
Heard Carlile say in an interview that she and her partner refer to Maren's husband (Ryan Hurd) as "Donor Material" and I think about that a lot
Thought this would be a good discussion. Watching a livestream of an Isbell show and on the side the question was posed: “What’s your favorite Isbell line?” That’s a damn hard question
What do we define as a line? Just one literal line of a stanza? Or anything within one stanza? I'm going to assume the latter because it makes this more fun. 1. There's one thing that's real clear to me No one dies with dignity 2. Time moves slow when you're seventeen and then it picks up steam at twenty-one. Pretty soon you'll remember when you could remember when you loved someone 3. Maybe time running out is a gift I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift And give you every second I can find And hope it isn't me who's left behind 4. I was riding on my mother's hip She was shorter than the corn All the years I took from her Just by being born. 5. So don't let 'em take who you are boy, and don't try to be who you ain't And don't let me catch you in Kendale with a bucket of wealthy man's paint Bonus: And the old lover's sing "I thought it'd be me who helped him get home" But home was a dream One I'd never seen till you came along
Well it's a Thursday night but there's a high school game Sneak a bottle up the bleachers and forget my name These 5A bastards run a shallow cross It's a boy's last dream and a man's first loss
Streetlights is so full of them it's absurd Could my dreams take up too much space? I'll never find a place that's big enough Think I blocked just a park away, but I can't really say, it's been all night
