Also debated using the UGA icon since some of the folks in the band are from Athens. I saw Jason Isbell this past Saturday night in Columbia and holy shit did he kick ass. The place went nuts when he closed the show out with "Never Gonna Change" Drive-By Truckers Decoration Day Jason Isbell - Goddamn Lonely Love
Just saw the Truckers Sunday night in Charlotte. Everything I had heard about them being amazing live was true.
Good move by not using the UGA icon. Do not need those underachieving losers associated with the band.
I remember the truckers opening for panic once in antioch. Isbell played a song with them and panic's bass player said "Jason Isbell....remember the name". Haven't heard it since then....til now
Where have you been? Isbell is my favorite member/former member of the Truckers. They are simply not as good without him. To this day, I prefer Isbell shows more than Trucker shows sans Isbell. Does anyone know the full story as to why he left? I've heard he was much younger than the other members, joined later on, and wanted to have more input on their songs. All things considered he moved on. I am wondering if it was nasty behind the scenes.
I'm starting to lose interest. Saw this DBT tour in Boulder, and they just don't have that ragged, hard partying, mainstream indifferent edge I used to enjoy. The new songs didn't make my want to buy the new album. The tour setlists are now more repetitive with fewer random gems thrown in. They're becoming a more commercial enterprise, which makes sense for guys with families, but the drunken, sloppy, incendiary sound that hooked me in is gone...at least the last few times I've seen them. They did put on some of the best shows I've seen, including their New Year's run of shows at amazing Fox Theater in Boulder. I'm sure people in the Southeast can catch their old form at clubs like the 40 Watt, but I haven't seen it for awhile.
FYI, for those who don't know, you can download bootlegs of their shows from archive.org. Or, you can just listen on their site. Their pre-Dirt Underneath boots are some real gems.
I sort of know one of the original members and he hates everyone in the band, he's really fucking good at guitar and singing though
personal favorite Saw them 3 times in college, the school would get em all the time, pretty badass Also saw Jason Isbell at the crawfish boil thing in b-ham this past summer
He's played at The White Mule a few times in the past year but I caught him at The House (formery Five Points Pub) right behind Yesterday's. He also did a kickass rendition of "Sitting On the Dock of The Bay" right before plowing into "Never Gonna Change." The guy puts on a fantastic show.
DBT were supposed to come to this bar down here recently but the fuckers didn't get the place renovated in time :curses:
Isbell and Cooley should form their own band. Patterson seems like a cool guy but he can't play guitar or sing as good as either of them.
yeah but patterson can write a fuckin song though. check this shit out, kevn kinney and the girl from whiskeytown sit in on this song: Jason Isbell - The Day John Henry Died
I have to agree they are hit and miss. Saw them in March in ATL and we left early because it was not a good show.
Got my tickets yesterday for their show in huntsville. Was gonna go to their show in Philly on the 3rd but the snow put a kink in those plans
I like the new album, but it's not quite as good as The Big To Do. Nothing beats the Dirty South. Here is one of my favorite live vids of the truckers Drive-by Truckers "Drag the Lake Charlie" Later.....with Jools Holland
and as someone mentioned, I'm pretty sure Isbell's situation had something to do with his ex-wife. users dawgonit and sticks are big DBT fans, they'll know more If anyone hasn't seen Patterson Hood live yet, I highly recommend. Basically a stripped down acoustic show with DBT songs and some of his own
Had go go boots for about 2 weeks now, but will buy today. Really enjoy it, it grows on you the more you listen to it.
It comes out April 12th. I already have it isbell played with DBT towards the end of the show in Huntsville. When he came out everyone went nuts and Patterson Hood jokingly told the crowd to "shut the fuck up".
Used to be a cop, Mercy Buckets, Everybody needs love, Go Go boots, and Fireplace Poker are ones I like alot right now.
I got it from amazon for like $10, it's supposed to be really good. And SCRebel-Just listened to the whole CD all the way through, it's awesome. I really liked Assholes, Ray's Automatic Weapon, Cartoon Gold, and Used to be a Cop
DBT on Jimmy Fallon tonight. Yea, the album is really great, people just have to give it a chance. Loved all of those songs the first few times I went through the album, now even the other songs, the ones I listed a post or two up, are what I'm liking now. Album's really well done.
Isbell is playing in Greenville, SC on the 13th of April. His new album happens to be released on my birthday Gonna drive up and catch the show. I recently got in to some of Patterson Hood's solo stuff. Shit's good: Patterson Hood & the Screwtopians - "Back of a Bible" from Murdering Oscar (and other love songs)
Dammit, if that was on a weekend and not a Wednesday I'd come back to SC and go to that, fuckkkkk. Consider me jealous.
http://www.jasonisbell.com/shows/ There's the dates for the tour. I saw some Bama and Louisiana dates, but I'm not sure of how far they are from you at Ole Miss. It ought to be a blast.
