We didn’t do any plumbing and wouldn’t have needed a drawing if I did. I drew because he is doing the work.
I was very skeptical that stringmusic24 would be able to pull of the complete reset of his all new equipment pad. But after seeing pictures of his initial work, he is killing it. If he could turn this job that is going to take a week into a job that takes 1 day, I would go into business with him.
Here are some progress shots of my project. a.tramp has been insanely generous with his time and expertise otherwise I'd be up shit creek. I started here: I poured my first concrete slab. Here's the form. The finish didn't turn how I'd like, but it'll do for now. Little retaining wall almost complete. Glacier chiller came in: The suction manifold takes shape: I'm hoping this time next week I'll be passed out drunk on a pool floaty. If not, I'm ordering a load of fill dirt.
Fun little pool I am at this morning. The Koi pone goes underneath the fully glass enclosed hall that connects the garage & house.
Also, I thought string was going to blow a gasket when I sent him a pic of what I did in 20 mins on Saturday morning. This was a property that a guy just bought the house. Without consulting anyone he removed all 3 pumps and thought he could go back in with just 1 pump so tried to tie all of his plumbing in together. First he could not get his new pump to prime and then once he did, he blew the plumbing apart in multiple places. He thought 1 3hp pump should be able to do the job of 1 2hp filter pump + 1 1 hp waterfall pump + 1 .75 hp sweep booster pump. And then he tried to use 1.5” plumbing. He thought he could handle it because, in his words, “I worked at an aquarium store in college.” Needless to say his entire plumbing at the pad got cut away, I installed a new sweep pump as his pool/cleaner design will not function without one and I combined his waterfall and filtration system to run off a single pump.
Well, five days ago I glued PVC for the first time. Today the plumbing is complete. I may have even remembered to glue all the pipes together. Maybe. a.tramp held my hand the whole way providing encouragement and gentle derision when I fucked something up. I still need to tie up some loose ends with electrical wiring, gas connections, and landscaping, but the job is almost complete. I'll post some final before and after pics when I get everything tidied up.
Anyone ever fuck with fiber optic lights? I am asking here as I fully intend to pm a.tramp and then compensate him in microbrewed beers to help me with this issue. When I moved in the previous owner mentions the pool light is out. I pull out the plans a few weeks ago as I figured it was time to replace the light. I learn it is a fiber optic light. I see where the “box” is supposed to be but it looks like it’s a wire bundle which is looped back into the ground. Kind of like some one wired the light but never installed it. What kind of a cost and effort am I looking at to get a light up and running?
Reminds me of a patient I had one time that came in after a failed self incision and drainage of an abscess on his thigh. He used his knife that he guts deer with and stuck it straight into his abscess and drained the pus. Didn’t clean his leg first, didn’t clean his knife, didn’t sharpen the knife and of course tetanus not up to date. He showed me the knife, I can’t imagine a dirtier, more rusted, dull knife exists on this Earth. Last time he used it on a deer was the morning of his self-surgery. The culture of his wound site killed me...tons of different bacteria types, all kinds of rare microbes. Best part of everything though was the way he looked at me like “what’s your problem doc?”
So went to local pool place I have been using to test water. Pool looks fine, no strong odors just a check up. Was told to add 9 lbs of shock and some muriatic acid. I was all wtf at 9lbs but trusted the guy enough to buy a big tub. Started thinking about it and wanted a 2nd opinion since have had no problems. Took a sample to Leslie's and they said my water was fine, pH a little high but wouldn't add anything rn maybe bring in another sample in a week or so Cliffs: What was that home test kit that was recommended?
Which store did you go to? If your CC was high they may tell you that so you will hit breakpoint and free up your FAC to do its job
Mother Earth. I believe you recommended it but the guy you told me to ask for has never been there, always some younger guy. He seems to be knowledgeable but idk. I'll post the readout when I get home
First pic is from Mother Earth (tested yesterday), 2nd from Leslie’s (tested today) Mother Earth has my pool info wrong, not sure if that matters. Mine is gunite and has a cartridge filter Leslie’s said do nothing and Mother Earth 9 lbs turbo shock & 50 oz muriatic acid
You were told to shock to hit breakpoint as I suspected. You are teetering on chlorine lock & allow you will sanitize it will do so slowly. I’d recommend you do it.
So you going to give us a little more to work with than “light broke, wire idk?” Maybe some pics or model numbers or anything?
I faintly remember installing a sprinkler system with my dad when I was younger and thought that cement stuff put off some wicked fumes.
Ok a.tramp here we go. Here is what I see where the “electrical box” should be. For some reason I thought there was an actual box there but I couldn’t find it when I dug it up this weekend. The pic is rotated. The three wire conduit is closer to the pool than the orange looped wire. The plans include this documentation. Also please disregard all the fancy Hayward equipment. The plans look like this. Again this is rotated and should be turned 90 degrees counter clockwise.
Total Chlorine - Free Chlorine = Combined Chlorine To eliminate combined chlorine, it takes a surge of chlorine, called hyperchlorination (or shocking) to overcome the load. The conventional wisdom in the pool business is a shock of 10x your combined chlorine level in additional free chlorine.
I am sure the rigid conduit right next to it is where the power supply came in. I am thinking you will need to buy everything from scratch considering the only info about FS4 C lights I found during a 10 minute google search was a troubleshooting guide provided by a company that covers multiple light models.
Listen pal, quit trying to help this guy and tell me if you want me to put your beers in my truck in the morning or not. Leaving town at noon for the weekend.
THF is the light about 3-4” wide, face and all? If it is this light http://www.poolinspections.com/manuals/lights/fiberstars_product_book_2000.pdf then you could do a low voltage LED. Will require you to see if the circuit running to that popped off conduit is still good when powered. Going off of how short those wires are cut new wires will most likely need to be pulled. Then you will need a LED and the appropriate transformer and enclosure.
Just turned on all the new PENTAIR pool equipment for the first time. No leaks that I can find, pump is running cool and quiet, UV system doing its thing. Went for a little swim. I am pleased. I am also drunk, but mostly pleased.
I started using Bromide tablets with my pool now so I don't get high CYA levels. The problem is my Chlorine is always at 0 and my PH is 8+. How do I get chlorine up? I keep putting in Muriatic acid or pH down, but it just bounces back up. TA is 100
Either get a cover or keep pumping it in. Bromine is not stabilized and the sun burns it off extremely fast.
