A friend has two really good seats for sale for Sturgill and Tyler Childers' Birmingham show tomorrow night in case anyone is looking. PM me if interested.
Damn good read. He may never listen to High Top Mountain or Sound & Fury anymore, but that damn sure ain't going to stop me from blaring them.
Sturgill Simpson To Aspiring Musicians: “Don’t Come To Nashville, Get A Van & Start Playing Everywhere Else” https://www.whiskeyriff.com/2020/02...ille-get-a-van-start-playing-everywhere-else/
That’s a great article. I’m betting he releases another album under a different label; I think he enjoys the creative process to much and I don’t think it’ll sound anything like Sound and Fury. to hear his disdain for the album before he plays it for 52 shows is interesting. Obviously, he was in a pretty bad place when he produced it; glad he’s doing better.
He’s definitely not joining another label. I wouldn’t be surprised if he creates his own label though similar to what Isbell does. I think this tour is going be much more centered around the sound than the lyrics.
Possibly. And that's fine. But that festival circuit pay day is hard to pass up. Play a few weekends a summer. Home mostly.
he also said this is the last time he's playing all the old shit which means he has to come out with a new album to tour again
Sounds like he really wants to pay the fans back for what he views as a horrible 2017 tour. That sounds promising.
The same sort of energy that made him write You can Have the Crown makes him act like an asshole when he gets jaded by the system. Who possibly could have guessed that would happen? The same dude who played on the sidewalk outside the CMAs instead of going in. No. Fucking. Way.
the comments are just as bad. i assume these are the people who just want him to show up and play Country Music and release High Top Mountain Part 2 and Part 3 and Part 4 and otherwise keep his mouth shut
He dont sound like Lee Brice and only has one song about a Bronco. Sturgill aint cuntry and he can go fuck himself
That’s the most Trigger has gotten in his feelings since...like three days ago when Isbell sent a tweet that offended him.
Lee Brice is (apparently) from my hometown and I have no idea who he is I feel like Sturgill's fanbase is split between "Country Music Fans" vs people (like me) who like Sturgill in spite of his nashville phase. this new album is, IMO one of the best rock albums i've ever heard, so its weird to me to hear ppl shit talk it. i guess everyone has opinions but i just cannot really reconcile these with reality.
I declare this the finish line between Trigger, Isbell, and politics in this thread. It's the tour opening night.
My 2 favorite comments on the SCM article are the, "Sturgill should be on suicide watch because he sounds too much like Cobain" and the one accusing Isbell of lying about his sobriety.
Haven’t seen a Childers setlist from last night, but I saw where Sturgill just played Sound & Fury in its entirety and that’s all.

Damn so they’re both getting nearly a full set. Awesome. Wherever I saw Sturgill’s set cut it off after Sound and Fury. Glad to see he played more.
