For the record, this is an actual conversation being had. NYC has thousands of deaths that they are trying to figure out how to classify because of this.
Yes I’ve seen articles discussing that. Of course they “count” in terms of the human cost and tracking the disease. I dunno if you can infer that they died at home “because” they weren’t tested, or that they even passed from covid, but it’s certainly troubling that Detroit, NYC, Boston, etc... are seeing these 4-6X spikes in at home deaths. I meant more in terms of the main policy goal of the lockdowns—isn’t the critical care capacity our primary concern?
Started yesterday afternoon after lunch. Had some labored breathing to start but I have anxiety and felt kinda like that. Then my throat started hurting and I had this weird metallic taste in my mouth. I woke up this morning and was getting ready and I just kept noticing I was having trouble breathing. Like I have to make myself take deep breaths and when I did I had a coughing fit so bad I puked a little. My voice is also gone. Like I’ve been yelling at a concert. Metallic taste is still there too. No fever though
Of course. Which is why the CCP has tried to say it didn’t, in fact, originate in Wuhan. I don’t think we’ll know an accepted origin story on this for a long while. Which means the space in between is going to get filled with crazier and crazier QAnon and/or Trump bullshit. All I’m saying is bullshit conspiracies shouldn’t close the door on actual scientific investigation into the origin. Just because Trump jumps to lab origins because he’s nuts doesn’t on its own invalidate the possibility.
Are you still working today? If so, please infact everybody if you have it. Consider it a teachable moment.
Asked my grandmother what it was like to live through the Great Depression. She responded “I’m 85. Did that fucking Why?Pokes say I’d have vivid memories of that again? Yikes.” Also she’s from Picayune, MS so uhhhh squirrels and rabbits was good eatin’ for them.
There are a lot smarter people than me here so maybe y'all can help me better understand this. My thinking is that the curve hasn't really flattened, it's just that testing has slowed and the smaller number of cases is more that people aren't being tested than any real handle on this. I understand people that are sick are going to the hospital, but if a person feels some symptoms but not all, they won't go until they are showing more signs, correct? My thinking is that the second wave is going to be actual numbers from an incomplete first wave since things are so haphazardly put together right now. I mean states still haven't fully closed and people are still congregating, so erasing the lockdown in two weeks since more criminal than stupid, but stupid is the one thing Trump does well. Naturally I dont trust this administration to do anything right and I think they'll do anything to minimize numbers, but am I going to foil hat here thinking they are intentionally withholding texting to keep numbers low to make a stronger case for "opening the country"? They're on record as saying people dying to save the economy is acceptable, so is thinking they'll do anything to make that case a solid thought or quarantine alone craziness?
Not just testing and lies and etc, but it's also possible its flattened in cities which represented the bulk of the cases, but hasn't taken hold in rural areas yet. In other words, we've got an S curve forming. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/15/coronavirus-hot-spots-farm-belt-189272
Quit my job yesterday. Boss with held information from me about someone coming in who tested positive. Had to do my own digging to find out the truth. Glad the conversation didn’t turn toxic, but had to tell him that in this day and age we need to be hyper vigilant and that work wasn’t taking the necessary steps. Didn’t feel safe coming into work with the carefree attitude during the pandemic. He said he understood and everyone has their opinion on COVID... What a shit show
it blows my mind that we still can’t ramp up testing. Testing has somehow gone down in Florida but I haven’t really seen a substantial growth in testing anywhere in the country. Those Abbott tests don’t seem to be the magic pill trump promised. SHOCKING.
I mean, can you blame them? With the deep history and heritage of the confederacy they all grew up with up there in Michigan...
That statement is fucking terrifying. NO ONE should have an “opinion on COVID”. The opinion seems to be that revenue is more important than our most valuable assets, which again is just fucking insane.
I was told Sweden is the gold standard by republicans. Well gold standard for this one thing and one thing only.
ESPN radio this morning said college football won’t be back until students are allowed in the classroom. Which means to me we wait until the vaccine is created. So 2020 cancelled fellas.
Pair that with the CNN report from yesterday that colleges are preparing to not have in person classes in the fall and it doesn't look good.
A friend sells insurance policies to schools. Early on he mentioned to me that schools were the first to be closing because they had to wait a certain amount of time before re-opening. He was pretty upfront in saying there's no way there'd be fall sports. That was awhile ago, so maybe I'm not remembering it correctly, but the insurance aspect of this is too easily dismissed. There's at least two wrongful death suits against major employers that I know of so far, and I would expect that number to explode in the near future. Especially if they're settled.
I think this might be my favorite coronavirus related story so far so I’ll continue to spam with updates on it as long as it’s going on.
Over the last five days, confirmed cases have increased more than 30 percent in North Dakota, 22 percent in Arkansas, 26 percent in Oklahoma, and 260 percent in South Dakota. That compares to roughly 26 percent over the same period in New York, the epicenter of the pandemic. Only going to get worse.
Because this country was so incredibly unprepared despite evidence for years this could happen. Basically we are told to do our jobs and run into the fire with little to no protection. At least for the pharmacy for the first month of the pandemic we were told we couldn't wear masks because it would "scare" the patients.
no. At one point in time I used to take part in cases that required a foreign body to be removed. Haven't done it in like 9-10 years
It shows you how incompetent the government is that it's simultaneously trying to hide the numbers by keeping testing down while also trying to open things back up and restart the economy. Businesses need better testing so they aren't held liable for accidentally spreading this shit to people and getting them killed. You can't just snap your fingers and fix this. You can't will it into existence.
I fully expect to be let go after all this especially if I test negative. Pretty sure I’m expected to come in regardless of having symptoms unless I’m unable to walk or dead.
ah very cool this will almost certainly become the go-to sentiment from lawmakers in my wonderful state
Fox News wanted Hitler 2 when the stock market was at an all-time high. I'm not having "the bad economy made meemaw racist" argument again.
https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/us-map Johns Hopkins website has some really good state/county level data with some nice charts and graphics. Anyone who wants more local info, likes cool graphics and stats or both should check it out.
This is where I’m at. I have less than mild symptoms but I felt I needed to be diligent and at the very least speak to a dr and let them advise me on what they though. The dr said given what we are dealing with now that it is advised for me not to go to ER and to get tested for covid. It could be allergies/sinus/whatever and I could have went to work and just roughed it out but what if I’m the one and not my coworkers that causes the outbreak? We’re weeks away from having a child as well so if I feel like I have any of the symptoms I need to be tested for the safety of my family as well. Again, I will most likely be fired if the test is negative but I feel like I’m doing the right thing.
In my State the providers are begging people to be tested. We have more than enough capacity, but no one is coming in. The State government is helping to get the word out because we need the data in order to make good decisions about when and how to loosen restrictions. I see some PhDs in Sociology being awarded out of this in a couple of years.
I noticed Rogan had a Dr at his podcast compound yesterday or the day before testing everyone that comes in to do the podcast including his buddies. Rogan said he's been tested a couple of times. Forgive my ignorance, but how much that would cost? the test itself plus having the Dr onsite? I know it's Rogan so he's got a million resources everywhere but has this been done anywhere else?
A coworkers wife works at UAB (I know we have heard a statement like that a million times). She was working in a "clean area" where there are supposedly no covid patients and had to use home-made masks.
I posted about a coworker coughing his head off in his office. He was still doing it but there is not a chance in hell he would ever go to the dr about it since it’s just a cough and he knows if he did they’d have him tested and if it’s positive then he has to deal with that change is normalcy and that’s most likely not worth it to him so he’s just going to keep working and coughing. I imagine most people are like that.
I missed most of yesterday. Is this from Michigan? What exactly were they doing? Blocking the entrance to the hospital? What was the point of that?
