Maybe we are in the end times? Tired of posting in multiple threads. The Bay Area is fucking mars. Oregon (Eugene/Springfield specifically)has possibly the planet's worst air quality now in addition to a growing number of towns that are facing total loss... Washington...
It's windy as fuck out here. It'll get like this where I live in the winter but I can't ever remember it being like this in September There are limbs down all over the place because it's rained like once since May Good combo when there is a giant fire nearby
Wait what are the color indicators here? Are all the read splotches active out of control fires? What are the fire emblems?
Yea sorry, confusing mix of things there. The actual fire emblems are active large wildfires. The lightest indicates under 10k acres, next lightest 10-100k and the darkest is over 100k. The squares: purple - emerging within fewer than 24 hrs, black - emerging more than 24 hrs Dots represent fire detection by numerous satellite sources color coded by recency (and the source) and it's not really worth listing it all. Here it is with the satellite detections cleaned up:
that’s fucking terrifying meanwhile it’s cooled down significantly compared to normal in texas and it’s raining a bunch we’re so fucked in general man
In the case of Oregon there were particularly hot dry conditions (see: global warming) but also a sudden significant surge of wind. I think one of them started from a vehicle trailer that was dragging and creating sparks? I haven't been following those details too much
The gender was female (Mother Earth). And it was revealed to be abused by a bunch of dumb ungrateful fucks
My wife’s best friend’s father lost his cabin in the Creek Fire yesterday. Been up there a couple of times with the family and it was an awesome place. Her dad retired two years ago and moved there full time redoing the place himself and had just finished the renovation. He was able to get out with his animals but left behind most of his possessions. No way insurance will make him whole because he did all the work himself and hadn’t had it reappraised. So so shitty.
Are any of you who are affected by this looking to move east? This is basically 20% of the year it seems and it's only getting worse. I wonder how long people can tolerate it.
I read somewhere that 3 of Oregon's big Chinook choppers used for fighting fires were pulled into service by the DoD... in Afghanistan! We are fucking depleted right now. We need rain so fucking badly.
It’s not just climate change, although that’s certainly a, if not the, driving factor. You’ve got climate change, a particularly hot summer, decades of short sided “suppression at all costs” management strategy, migration into high risk areas in pursuit of affordable housing, neglected grid vegetation management, record-setting layoffs in fire departments and emergency services caused by the lockdowns, etc... It’s a disaster waiting to happen.
there's also like a weird orange glow that my phone didn't really capture. the wind is blowing away from me right now and it still looks like that ^ nothing compared to the blood red skies people have been sharing online though
Well my lungs are currently chalked with smoke, I have evacuated my grandparents and am watching our entire state burn. I don’t have time for your “hurr durr climate has been changing for millions of years” bullshit. Get fucked
