I’m 39 and I’ve listened to rap like a maniac since I was 9. I heard Madvillainy for the first time about 4 years ago
Elzhi, mac miller, spillage village, aesop rock, serengeti released my favorite hip hop records of the year but I know I’m forgetting some
pop smoke had another decent record (RIP) boldy james put out 4 records this year. They’re good but it’s not my style. the one with the alchemist is my favorite
Burden Of Proof From King To a God LuLu Miles Reasonable Drought <~ huge fan Kings Disease Are all great and haven’t been mentioned
Sticking to a larger list and no real order RTJ4-RTJ Unlocked-Denzel Curry/Kenny Beats Alfredo-Freddie Gibbs Spillgion-Spillage Village Everything that came out of Griselda this year Circles-Mac Miller(Not really a hip hop album but I love it dearly) Miles-Blu and Exile Spirit World Field Guide-Aesop Rock Better-Deante Hitchcock It was a fantastic year for hip hop
Another topic: What projects and albums are you hoping for in 2021? I'm hoping for stuff from these people Kendrick Lamar J Cole-The Fall Off JID(Probably my most anticipated) Saba and Smino-Have a feeling these two are cooking something up together. I'd love a Smino album though A$ap Rocky-Has an album coming called All $miles Isaiah Rashad-Album coming called The House is Burning Chika and Tierra Whack-Hoping for an album from either. My 2 favorite female rappers by far. I want more of them and less of Cardi B and Megan the Stallion Travis Scott and Kid Cudi-Apparently have a joint album coming Cordae Pusha T Jpegmafia
Also do we have anyone in here that listened to and enjoyed the Playboi Carti and if so how? I'm a pretty open minded guy and even when I may not enjoy someone as much as everyone else I can usually find the reasons why they enjoy it and can understand it. The Carti love just makes absolutely zero sense to me. Probably one of the only artists that I just don't get how they have the following that they do
Somehow missed the Jpegmafia album. Pretty excited to listen now. I hope he gains a little more mainstream attraction and gets in the studio with a bunch of artists and gives them some of his production masterpieces
Most of my favorites have been mentioned already. I'll add H.A.R.D and The Balancing Act. The collabs made TBA play like an all star album.
Balancing Act definitely slipped my mind when I was making my list. Definitely on there. Best Statik album by far to me
1- Kenny 2- JID 3- Zay 4- Push 5- Rocky- I’m incredibly weird where he’s concerned because I think he’s lacking the skill the guys above him have but the dude always just fucking kills it for me
a few good Doom reads from over the years https://pitchfork.com/features/arti...ow-the-story-of-madlib-and-dooms-madvillainy/ https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2009/09/21/the-mask-of-doom the density of his rhymes and the number of of great/funny lines is just unreal. and such an underrated producer. I mean he did 4 tracks on Fishscale in addition to so much of his early stuff. Man, just a mega talent
what a kick in the nuts man kutfather (good friend and san diego legend) on wednesday and then the doom news outta nowhere two truly depressing, unexpected developments can’t let “Ozone” passing get lost in the shuffle either
shit man just washing my face this morning reminded me of doom and bummed me out early in the morning the face crud from like a mud fight
bought first sampler cuz of him Not RZA, not Madlib, Premier, not Psycho Les, Muggs,Dilla, Al...etc. Doom
his passing just brought back so many funny memories i had to facetime my best friend back home we ended up reminiscing for 84 minutes about our days riding around in his 92 bronco doing nothing but driving and bumping
love this account. much of it is taking samples and building them out into the song intros, but this one is nice too
That video just brought back memories of how hip hop Gtown used to be back in the day in the 80s and 90s........would be nice to see them get back to that someday
revisited this project...so good. Bigger variance in the tempos of some of the songs He was spitting like a fool on the faster tracks

It's Guilty Simpson's birthday and that the dj/stream I never ever reference is going deep in the catalogue and it's just banger after banger after banger
The past few posted have reminded me....Every time one of my friends says “there hadn’t been good rap since the 90s” I just
The cool thing about the guys I really like now is that I feel like they are less likely to cash out than even the guys in the 90s. It seemed like every rapper I loved in the 90s did the puffy shiny suit thing and I just don’t see that from the guys I’m digging now. Guys like JID and Earthgang have pretty big pop potential and they just keep doing the funky shit they’re known for. I mean, other than Anderson Paak creeping into Bruno Mars territory everyone I really like keeps it focused on their visions
