yeah. I’ve had the Weber for just over 2 years. LX S-340. have the RT-700 as well. I still like to use the Weber when I want direct heat.
I pulled the trigger on a Rec Teq RT - 340 pellet grill/smoker. It comes with 220 lbs of pellets in a bundle they are offering on their website. I am going to start small and do a butt once it arrives.
The only kind of bbq my wife likes is lean beef brisket... and I certainly am not cooking one till I understand the apparatus better so I will have plenty of butt to share.
Does anybody have a built in grill set up? I’m planning on having my KJ built into an island/bar. Any pros, cons, suggestions would be appreciated.
Ours is planned as well. I hope it works well but my immediate pro is no nest. We have our design with the Joe at the end of the counter and dropped with plug on side for fan control. I have not bought ceramic feet for it yet... but I also just have a hole in the ground right now and am months from the kitchen going in.
Not sure on the final dimensions on the width, but it's going to at least be counter height. Good call on not nesting, I am not planning to nest it as well. Makes more sense just to keep it open and stand it in an opening. Too me that gives me more access and flexibility for cleaning, adjusting, etc. Also, going to make sure I have enough room for at least oversize pan on the smallest side. I live in an area where people have a lot of built in grills that you can see and I feel that's a huge mistake not having room on either side of the grill. Planning on having a fridge built in as well. The surface should also be able to seat 4 people at the bar and will also have a TV outside to distract them from the shitty BBQ I am making
I got a Big Joe built into the middle of a bar height table. The table is 10’ long so plenty of counter space on either side. Inevitably you will need it when you are taking your plates out or wrapping meat. I would post a picture but I cannot for the life of me remember how to post one on here.
From your phone, just select the “upload a file” button below. Chose the photo. And then select “full image”
Looks nice dude. Gonna off set mine for a bigger surface area. Not totally sure yet on final dimensions.
Don't have any specific recs for your set up but my goal is wood fire oven. That's the basis for me to get started, want it to be all stone with some nice countertops and plenty of storage to put all my shit.
A friend has a built in pit, wood pizza oven and Santa Maria grill. It’s a big set up and pretty awesome. Only seen the IG story photos.
I'm hoping to copy off of whatever you guys come up with as far as a table/bar goes. I've got one similar to Skilley's for my BGE (albeit smaller)...but I'd like to build another one to put my Ooni and blackstone on. Trouble is I'm absolutely shit-tier at building/creating something on my own. I've gotta have plans/instructions or my feeble brain can't handle it.
I finally have a yard so I can finally participate in this thread. I have no idea what to buy though. Trying to keep it under $1k. Help, please.
I'm open to it, sell me. Large seems like the right size to be able to cook for a small gathering? I started back-reading this thread from the beginning for ideas and seemed like everyone was all about them 6 years ago but seems like not as much now.
Pellet smokers are plugged into an electrical outlet. Does that seem like real bbq? Can a pellet smoker go to 700 degrees in 5 minutes? There is nothing more versatile than an egg. Low and slow, grill, turn the thing into an inferno to sear a steak, make a pizza at 700 degrees. Plus cooking with charcoal >some bullshit pellet .
Honestly didn't realize eggs were competitively priced with pellets in the range I'm looking. I was looking at Kamado Joe's preliminary but a BGE would fit my budget at medium/large it looks like.
I think my KJ Classic 2 was like $1200 with a few accessories. BGEs are more a la carte and there are some other brands that are will be cheaper.
you have to get at least a large. Medium is a hard pass. Large is still almost too small. I can't fit a rib rack and a bunch of wings on a large. Having said all of that, I have a large and I make it work. Not that big of a problem. Ideally I'd probably get an XL though.
I’d recommend an egg style as well. Just going to tell you right now, it’s not a budget friendly device. It’s can do a ton but you can buy a ton. It’s definitely enjoyable, firing mine up now to make some bacon.
So curing my own bacon is one of my next ventures. Gonna probably get 3 to 6 lbs of pork belly next time I go to Costco and try it out. I found this on Reddit and saved it for when I try it.
I just did this a couple weeks ago, it'll be salty so you'll want to rinse it pretty damn good after the brine to make sure all the prague powerder is off. Currently have some short ribs on the cook.
Sams Club, Only "dino ribs" I've found at stores are already pre-cut, will call some other places to see if I can get some pre-cut and do it right.
