Only on page 2 so apologies if already covered, but I’m a moderate who, to date, has only voted Democrat for president. I’ll probably vote for Kemp for GA governor (economy is absolutely humming), but would take pretty much any Dem vs. Trump
why? Looking at 4 years under trump and a little over 1 under Biden I can’t imagine thinking trump was less depressing (better). Only a white person can think that.
If targeting minorities for all sorts of mistreatment, appeasing dictators, giving tax breaks to the wealthy, destroying our foreign policy alliances, responding like a 3 year old to a public health crisis causing the unnecessary deaths of tens of thousands of Americans, undermining our democracy is less depressing than not being able to increase the social welfare net and other things, then I'd reevaluate things.
Agree with this - ideal age for a president (mix of stamina, energy, and being in touch with the zeitgeist) is 45-60 IMO
Despite the crazy campaign ads, he’s absolutely like a moderate. The MAGA’s tried to primary him if gives any context
I specifically didn't say better. Depressing in the fact that there was so much energy to finally make some changes to right some wrongs. Despite successfully doing that, it's pretty clear that the party can't or won't do that. They even actively seem to be dissuading people from protesting.
No. He was the hardcore rightwinger in the 2018 primary. He was only the moderate this time around because he refused to do something illegal. That's like claiming that Mike Pence is now moderate.
If Joe Biden runs again I will vote for him. But that’s only because I will vote for absolutely anyone other than a Republican in the next presidential election.
Some people always see it differently I guess. According to this smart college football poster, it's the LEFT who can get away with anything in the media. Spoiler If you are a Democrat you can do pretty much anything because the media, including big tech and social media, with the exception of Fox News, are going to bury it! And the left really doesn’t care what you do. People want to burn Trump at the stake for simply talking about grabbing a woman whereas if it’s a Democrat you can molest children for decades, you can kill people, you can rape women, and it’s perfectly OK. That has always been the difference between Republicans and Democrats. This stuff is epidemic on the left, but people on the right don’t put up with this crap. That’s why typically when a Republican gets caught doing something even people on the right want the guy in jail. But if it’s a democrat we’ll probably never hear about it. Bill Clinton committed treason and sold some of our top defense technology to the Chinese and the Chinese donated money to the Clinton/Gore campaign with Hillary Clinton right in the middle. And of course that’s exactly what the Clinton foundation was, a nonprofit set up so foreign countries could donate hundreds of millions of dollars to the Clintons for influence on American policy. A nonprofit that after decades suddenly dried up and disappeared after Trump beat Clinton. But of course, it was obvious to others around the world that the Clintons were done. So no need to keep giving them money when they no longer have control. Although it’s the Clintons or the Obamas currently running the country because it #### sure is not Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. The Kennedys were corrupt, The Clintons are corrupt and treasonous, and the Bidens are corrupt and completely incompetent. But the most incompetent and treasonous thing in America is the mainstream media! But people on the left including from the media are starting to speak out which is why Matt Taibbi and Glenn Greenwald are now constantly being attacked from the left.
There’s nothing moderate about him other than refusing to break the law as tegg/Z already said. He and Raffensberger both suck, they just suck a little less than the insurrectionists.
I wonder if he still thinks the left is moving too far left, while hand waving the idea that putting guns in your ads as a prerequisite to get elected by the GOP is just good old fashioned campaigning.
Every one of those things have been in the gop plank for decades. I expected my party to put up more of a fight to try to save not only our rights but democracy itself. Failing to do that has robbed me of any optimism that the country can be saved.
If your identity is rooted in "centrist" or "moderate" as its guiding philosophy you should probably be super aware of the fact that you're vulnerable to the center being dragged in one direction or the other
The best part is Whammy won't understand half the people mocking him were Republicans once upon a time but will treat them as just loony lefties.
What big brain point are ya trying to make here? This board as a whole has mostly been dragged left over the last decade. People’s policy preferences change in response to the political environment shifting…that’s how…how…the world works. Very sage advice
Dont think policy matters as much as Fetterman willing to tell McConnell, etc to fuck off instead of pretending they’re buddies.
What about Kemp is moderate? Is it the voter suppression or the skipping the vetting process in appointing ultra conservative judges or backing a bill to ban transgender kids from participating in sports?
he is saying the “center” in the US has always been right leaning and that it’s moving more in that direction.
There are seemingly no Ds of influence who will call out the Rs for what they are. The generic references to 'threats to democracy' or 'voting being the most precious privilege that we enjoy' just aren't going to turn the ship around. The Rs attempted a coup on Jan 6. It was a conspiracy run by Trump that stretched across many depts. of govt and into many state legislatures. It would take all of the Ds in DC and around the country calling out the Rs for what they are. And they'd need to do it every day of the week. Yet we seem content to meander toward the fascism that the Rs want.
Kemp routinely fucked with covid data on the state website so you couldn't tell how much danger you were in.
Hear me out here for a second because this might be just a crazy concept: Perhaps people haven’t been “dragged left” so much as they are in the same spot and the right has become so extreme and reactionary that those folks who didn’t move along with the party line just seem more left.
Can’t imagine the DNC allowing biden to run again. Everyone knows he would get smoked against pretty much anyone.
My point is your guiding principle seems to be to just root yourself somewhere in the middle of the two parties. You don't seem to have any underlying philosophical beliefs that guide you beyond that. So when the right's bad faith actors do fascist shit it just drags you to the right because you presume being slightly left of the Republicans is the smart position. It isn't
I tend to discount the first point as a political attack, the last one is broadly popular, not conservative (don’t agree with it for the record) https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-m...ns-oppose-transgender-athletes-female-sports/
He’s worse than that. He sees no problem with the direction of the GOP and only thinks that anyone left of McConnell is a communist.
I think there has been some leftward momentum, but largely as a response to people searching for solutions that work for them. I’d describe my personal situation as reflecting what you’re saying but I don’t think that reflects the core of people who were solidly liberal pre-Obama. but either way depicting political shifts on a two dimensional line is reductionist and disingenuous
Kemp is a shrewd politician and a highly effective executive. He's a really strong establishment conservative. If that's what you want, then I can completely get the appeal. But, calling him "moderate" is laughable.
He’s done a ton for the logistics industry and as others have noted, the incumbent usually gets credit - rightly or wrongly. Big companies are also moving here in large part because of the friendly tax environment
In May 2019, Kemp signed into law a highly controversial bill that would prohibit abortions after a heartbeat can be detected in a fetus, which is usually when a woman is six weeks pregnant; the legislation was one of the country's strictest anti-abortion laws. Kemp has supported efforts to overturn the Affordable Care Act,[117] as well as efforts to hinder the functioning of the Affordable Care Act for Georgia residents.[141] Kemp and Republicans in the Georgia legislature have opposed full Medicaid expansion.[142] Kemp has sought to introduce work requirements for Medicaid recipients.[143]
Unless the economy turns around with the quickness within like a 1-1.5 years, which frankly is unlikely to happen,, can't imagine any Democrat winning unless Trump runs again and even then they might not win. So in that case, it would make sense to run Biden again. Let him take the fall and don't put a gigantic L on another potential future Democrat Presidential candidate.
And it's possible for an ultra-conservative executive to preside over a strong economy. It's not like those two things are mutually exclusive.
I don’t strongly identify as either left or right. I think there are good ideas and bad ideas in isolation regardless of the source. The problem is the GOP is just in full regressive mode where every idea they have on everything is bad. I wouldn’t say that makes me a leftist, but certainly I can endorse more traditionally leftist ideas based largely on the fact that the end game in the other direction is white nationalism.
