Free food, free drinks in VIP area. Shaded VIP area under oak trees, so it’s really nice on hot days. And you get access to the risers. At $600 each, maybe not, but when you’re in your late 40s with your wife and 14 year old daughter with you, everyone’s happy, so I guess it depends on your situation of who you have with you. So My wife and daughter are very happy, so no complaining of I’m hot or lines are too long. I can take off and go see whoever I want and not worry. But definitely worth it for the $200 each I sold them for on the street.
The older I get the more itch I get to doing one of the upgrades. Better view sounds great. Booze and food included would be nice. I’d assume less people with their phones out in front of me. I’ll go yell at a cloud now.
Thought day 1 was pretty fun. Weakest actual lineup of the three days music wise but the shows we saw were still real good. genesis owusu. L’imperatrice. Big gigantic. Billy strings. Left after ab 20min of Sza. l’inperatrice was the surprise great show.
We were on the edge of the tent for Big G which is as close as you can get before sweat starts pouring out of your body. Having him at Tito’s was a fucking mistake it’s too damn small for what was realistically the concert with the most people at it of the entire day.
LPT: if you’re entering from the Mopac/Barton entrance you can go in through the Media/ADA line that’s next to the VIP entrance and they literally do not care because they’re just trying to get people in the door. It was shorter than the VIP lines and the chick that was the Festival Helper holding the “ask me anything” sign was the one who gave us the tip.
Day 2: Sofi Tucker was real fun BigBoi played almost all throwback Outkast songs it was dope Friends that went Purple Disco instead of BB said they were real good funky music Diplo I highly suggest going to see anything else going on. Show was almost like a house techno show and every person under age 25 was pushing and shoving their way through crowds with absolutely nowhere for them to go when they got through. Fucking infuriating and we saw multiple groups fighting about it before we bailed from our spot and went up by the flags to get away from it. The crowd was fucking massive. Maybe I’m too old for that but we were all rolling and couldn’t enjoy it. Flume was amazing. And you could get really close and still have tons of room to dance. Definitely my favorite show of the first two days. think we’re gonna take blankets and edibles up there today and post up on the hill between Miller and Honda for Big Wild and Zhu and then catch the 2H of RHCP on the way out
Heading to the airport now. I love seeing everyone’s picks for what to see because they are wildly different than mine (but I’m 48, old as fuck). My day 3 was Spoon (kind of flat), Japanese Breakfast (best show I saw that day), Mumford, and RHCP (just terrible). Show I enjoyed the most all weekend was war on drugs.
Big Wild was fantastic. Greeeeat blanket and sitdown sunday afternoon vibe. We setup a big ass couple of blankets together at the top of the hill between Honda and Miller. Just turned around after Big Wild and got a little raunchy to 6lack. Both rap shows we saw - 6lack and Big Boi, were real fun but we kept a serious distance from the stages/crowds. Zhu also put on a great show. We only caught about 30 minutes of RHCP. They're doin what they can for some old ass men but nothing close to the shows from 10-15 years ago I had on DVD type energy. Also heard they quit like 30 minutes before they were supposed to... cmon now
I saw RHCP ended almost 40 minutes early. That sucks. Saw people saying there may have been technical difficulties.
Read that too. Said the sound on the band's end was fubar and they couldn't hear themselves playing or something so maybe the monitors they used were malfunctioning or the ear pieces. Read the same thing about Kacey Musgraves show that happened at the same time. I know her sound was fucked up because we heard the first ~15 minutes while packing up our stuff and walking towards RHCP we heard at least 10 different people saying things about "I hope they turn up her microphone." Could hardly hear any singing at all by the time we got to the flags area, which is definitely broken.
there this weekend, only at fest on saturday though. I normally enjoy doing all the research, but I just haven't had time. a few questions for my brethren: 1) need name of a female clothing boutique (she wants to get something to potentially wear to the festival) 2) a few craft cocktail "nicer" bar rec's 3) younger areas are 6th street and south congress and older (25 & up) areas are Rainey and west 6th, right? Thanks!
Rainey feels pretty young to me when I go there but also I’m in my 30’s Whislers on East 6th might fit a casual cocktail bar spot for you in terms of nicer ones there’s In Plain Sight, Small Victory, Roosevelt Room that I would suggest
1) no clue on that one 2/3) Eh West 6th and Rainey have plenty of early 20s. Rainey is kind of an all-ages type place though. Tipsy Alchemist is a nice craft cocktail bar on Rainey with a pretty fancy setting and probably one of the more mature demographics for that street. Half-Step is also a good cocktail bar on Rainey it's just really small. For a legitimate 25+ with good drinks that's not on Rainey, I'd say Whislers or Native Hostel. Two of my favorite East 6th spots
what I normally try to do is hit a spot in each area, so in nyc I'll cruise to brooklyn first then to upper east side, etc etc.. but that plan is easier when I have a specific bar in mind. I feel like dive bars are easy to run into generally speaking.
Kome is not bad, I used to live by it. The other places are miles above it but Kome is like a solid spot for sushi
If you want good cheap no frills sushi my vote is sushi junae omikase downtown. You can do a la cart. I like their salmon and salmon belly nigiri better than all the fancy places and it's 3/piece Kome is good too I've just never eaten in since it was taken out only forever due to the pandemic
I'm out west and this front is just hitting here, yall make sure your loose stuff outside is brought in, this wind ain't no joke
Friend in Lampasas took this while waiting for the EMTs with the driver of that truck in his pickup, straight winds blew it over
Anybody know what the deal is for tickets to the CMT awards at moody in April? Wife would love to go, but I can't find much info on how the tickets work for it
Looks like they’ll be sold thru the Moody Center at some point and potentially C3 since they’re one of the main partners https://moodycenteratx.com/event/cmt-music-awards-2023/
