Brock Wright with more receiving yards on that potential game winning TD than he had in 4 years at ND
And he’s not even the biggest “we could have used so,e of that when he was in college” player on the lions. But that’s on Kelly for burning Romeo’s redshirt.
Probably the single worst redshirt non-usage I can think of. He was like 16 when he enrolled, and left a monster 5th year on the table. He would have been a mid round pick and went undrafted instead.
It was such a disservice. And also that we couldn’t redshirt him the next year because of 20 years of negligent dl recruiting with borderline racist justifications.
it wasn’t the the one your thinking about, that’s in January it was some minor game but some decent players ended up playing in it
I'll be interested to see if they can go from a developmental program to a bunch of hired guns, guessing Harbaugh's weirdness doesn't work as well with kids who have been elsewhere.
You have to hope that nd is a little embarrassed Michigan could figure out the undergrad transfers and nd still seems stuck in the dark ages. With nds nil and michigans transfer policy you could almost create a go-forward perennial monster.
dude let it play out, ND didn’t have two back to back dud recruiting classes like Michigan and need 30 kids ND maybe needs 5-7 transfers and I suspect they will get them, they are about to take the best player off VT & WMU. It will be ok, it’s December 18th
I did not watch ND vs UGA but shooting 48% from 3 and losing to a team that shot 4-17 from 3 and losing by 15 is impressive
Women beat #6 VT on the road, the men lost to Georgia, might be time for Brey to retire to the Ruth's Chris bar for good.
Hope he can patch it together and make the tourney for the seniors but it seems like now is as a good a time as any for him to take off given the roster turnover coming at ND and the overall weakness of the ACC.
Greetings Irish bros…I’d like your opinion on the playoff expansion. While increased access seems like a win for ND, do you think the program will ever be built to win 3 straight tough games in that format? That goes for us as well. We had to play ucla/nd back-to-back then take on Utah. It was just too much. Then I imagine us having to go play OSU/Mich before taking on schools like Clemson/LSU/Bama/Georgia and I’m like…yeah no. Our OL will likely never be capable of standing up to that prolonged onslaught. I guess my point is when you look at our title runs we both greatly benefited from the pre-bcs/playoff model. You would’ve won in 2012 but the bcs made you play Bama. And we’d have won 3 straight from 2003-2005. Now it seems like without a shit ton of luck or a roster chocked full of generational players we’ll almost always fall short. Thoughts…
1. the playoff format was created in part by nd’s ad because it’s pretty favorable to nd. Home game in December against the 12 seed if they were entitled to a bye 2. In theory the talent pool should widen out a bit with 8 or so perennial playoff teams along with a bunch who make it every couple years, so who knows.
It’s the same as it’s always been. You need to be dominant on both sides of the ball (or at least solid on one while generationally absurd on the other) to win it all. That means you need a head coach that can do almost everything extremely well. Very few of those coaches exist in college football at any given time. You guys had one under Carroll. I don’t think either of us have one right now.
I just want to see one ND title in my lifetime. Last one was 6 months before I was born. Wore a “1988 National Championship” shirt to two away games this year and opposing fans love pointing out how long ago it was. Just hope I see one.
I like the 12 team playoff but I’m not sure it’s favorable to ND. A year like this where ND already played Ohio State, Clemson and USC which would all be in a 12-team playoff. Even if ND is undefeated they would be 5 seed at best because of not being a conference champ. That extra game isn’t like playing Purdue in the BIG championship, it would be against a Washington this year. Only to win and have to play 4 seed then still have to play potentially a 1 then a 2. I’d love to see it but anyone winning that deserves it.
Rise -not sold on the 5v12 thing. If I’m understanding it correctly ND could be 12-0 and have to play a deep 2-3 loss SEC team. I’d be pissed regardless if it was a home game bc it’s winner take all. IrishLAX2 -agree to an extent…but neither ND/SC will have as deep DLs consistently as the southern schools. Look at the Keeley situation. Instead of him being your star player he’s now going to be attacking your QB. Again, I hope I’m wrong but it felt like at least with the 4 model there was a chance to only play one sec school whereas now there could easily be 3-5 in every year…guess we’ll see what happens…
The other option is playing a ccg and on a neutral field, losing, and then still having to win 3 playoff games. Or winning, in which case you probably would beat up on #12 anyways.
Maybe you’re right…I assume you disagree with NDfanPSUgrad characterization a few posts above? I admittedly haven’t gamed out every playoff scenario from an ND fan’s perspective.
I don’t disagree with his conclusion if you assume the ccg is going to be easier than beating the 12 seed like he does. I just dont think that’s a fair assumption most years in most conferences.
It will go away when conferences stop splitting divisions and have the two best teams play. The bigger point I was making was ND would have played 7 top 12 ranked games in a year to win it all. ND first round game doesn’t have the luxury of a loss either like a ccg does. USC losing to Utah this year would still be in the playoff.
You guys never had issues attracting elite DL under Carroll. If you’re having that issue now, it’s your own staff’s fault. With Freeman, I have absolutely no idea what we have. With Riley, he seems to be the exact coach he was at OU, which comes with a very high floor, but also a ceiling that’s below the Alabama’s and Georgia’s of the world. And it’s not a talent issue either. He needs to make major philosophical changes to how he tries to win football games in order to compete with those teams. And it’s not a matter of just changing the DC either.
If I had to guess, ucla was a little desperate and I he Moore camp thinks once he balls out he can transfer somewhere else for a bigger bag worst case
Man we are just dodging bullets on the trail left and right. Marcus is like Neo but if Will Smith took the role.
Spoiler: Don’t worry guys we didn’t even want him - coach d Some talent isn’t worth the head ache. Side note, the twisted road that was Notre Dame QB recruiting in the 2023 class ended up with Notre Dame landing a very talented player who is a great fit at the school. Notre Dame has to be thrilled with landing Minchey after seeing how Moore’s senior season and recruitment played out. If Notre Dame would have not pushed Moore out and stayed with him, allowed him to eventually commit, I think ultimately it would have ended with him flipping. Notre Dame made the right decision to move on from him once they landed CJ Carr.
