That was the logical conclusion though. He’s not a legitimate P5 QB with a future in pro football. This was purely a football move from a kid that probably shouldn’t be making football moves at this point. And parents that one would think would point him away from Tempe. But c'est la vie. Just weird.
It does seem that Pyne and his parents think he is a better football player than he is. But I'm fully on board with him taking one more shot at it, while enjoying all of the perks of Tempe. And this kid doesn't need to worry about his undergraduate degree. He's got family money, and his dad can get him into the MBA program at Wharton or Tuck or whatever, his resume will look just as good as it would have if he graduated from ND.
Cfb has changed a lot since the Carroll days. The original point was after a 9-1 start, USC’s season would’ve ended with: top15s UCLA, ND. Top 10 Utah. Then at Bama, Mich, and UGA. I’m not sure any SC team in history could handle that. Freeman seems like a good dude but his future will likely be determined by how willing the program is to adapt to the new nil landscape…
OU can take a couple partial qualifiers without endangering that precious rating. Either way, he wasn't getting into ND.
Maybe Pyne just wants to be a back up somewhere fun and not in South Bend, that too would be a good decision.
That number means squat when it comes to the fringes of their athletic program. I'm sure UC draws a firmer line than OU does.
He's not mobile enough. Fact of the matter is the D line knows he's not going to move the pocket. Theyll just swat the shit out of every pass.
Wonder where DJU goes now. Oregon has Nix back, assume Moore was promised no transfer at UCLA, Pyne to ASU, Penix back to Washington… running out of west coast spots
Sums up my thoughts. So many people acting like "WOW REBUILD FOR ASU GOING INCREDIBLE!" Did they watch this guy?
The national narrative around pyne is very interesting. So much of "wow ND lost their starter before the bowl game, how will they compete"... Completely ignoring the facts behind his starting. Not saying we'll be fine with Buchner, but it's like brady Quinn just decided to leave for another school
Go read the asu 247 board. It’s like 175 posts touting his stats and how dilly is going to make him a star. There is like one nd fan who’s a asu grad being like guys, seriously? And getting trashed
Yeah, I tend to think the hive mind surrounding academic non qualifiers magically getting into some schools or players getting paid millions pre NIL (per the Freeman landing 5 stars discussion we had a few days ago) is just pure cope conjecture. The under water basket weaving narrative is something the blue hairs chirp about. Either the kid is qualified or he is not. And I don’t think Cincy, of all places, was the mid tier university/decent cfb program that was going to put its foot down on that issue. It reads as pure cope. As someone mentioned earlier, how does Deland recruit against other schools when his own kids pass on the school he’s at for a paltry sum? It will absolutely be used against ND on the trail. And there’s no good rebuttal for it.
your line either a kid is qualified or he isn’t is just not true. There is the absolute bare minimum to not have the ncaa vacate wins and then there are gradients above that based on the school - the easiest example is looking up partial qualifiers. I tend to agree on nil. O’Malley said tonight the nd universal salary is less than $25k a year. It doesn’t take much at all then to take a kid with significant nil. As for recruiting, yea seems like it’s a tough sell but that’s why he makes the big bucks.
I think Greg is going to agree he’s going south for the snow & chicks and not to dink & dunk like a good qb.
You're doing a lot of "reading into" things. But even if the UC thing is a stretch, and I don't believe it is hearing from a couple guys I know here in Cincy who would have a good feel for it, if it's even close enough to true to be a topic, he was clearly not getting into Notre Dame. We don't know if UC=OU for sure, but we know damned well neither is Notre Dame when it comes to this stuff. ND should absolutely loosen restrictions on transfers in areas such as graduation path, allowing credits, etc. But when it comes to actual classroom performance, they should be true to themselves. Now, getting off the sticking point of OU and UC qualifications, you've yet to clarify your initial assertion of negligence. What did Notre Dame do here that was so negotiable that you're asserting as absolute fact?
Which way is worse Dante being rumored to commit but never actually committing and ultimately not coming to ND Keeley decommiting in Summer Bowen staying committed until signing day but flirting the whole time with OU and others and let's say he goes to OU like many are assuming on Signing day
#3. 1/2 suck because it hurt getting any quality kids for a while but gave them a chance. But it’s not like Bowen is going to surprise anyone. He announced visits like the week after committing and never stopped and had 3 staffs in home. Seems like the staff planned appropriately and got two safeties with another dude who could flex over there
#3 by far. Neither of 1 or 2 were great, but each happened with plenty of time to pivot. In fact, I suspect we'll end up happy with how QB turns out.
What's the word on transfer QB? That it's someone playing in a bowl game and isn't in the portal yet? Or are we fucked
That's the word. People brave enough to read between the lines have narrowed that down to Hartman or Pratt, but there's nothing solid to prove it. Hell, for all we know there's a mystery guy out there. Or it's all BS and there's nobody at this point.
Yeah, I’m not being clear. Daeh sucks, idek he’s a 3*, I think the rest of the staff/MF recognized that, but wanted Dasan. The whole qualifying thing is moot imo, just an aside it sounded like typical beat writer cope - Cincy as a program knew it was on borrowed time, losing their coach, going to get annihilated in the portal, etc. So the whole idea they’re turning down anyone over academics is pretty sus imo. They’re not that program. I think the incompetence is not being able to have a frank discussion with your RB coach about his kids as prospects, etc. I think Daeh not being a take (regardless of eligibility) influenced/effected how things played out, leveraging ND interest in Dasan, etc.
It seems like the Board right now is: 1. Hartman 2. Pratt 3. Panic If Hudson Card commits in the next week and Hartman says something about leaning toward going pro, I'm gonna get nervous
I care about DL recruiting, a lot. Y’all got too comfortable with tweener DL and 7th year seniors. That’s an unsustainable formula my guy.
