To be clear, I’m not feeling our team I’m just disagreeing with another poster that your lame ass fans and weak ass stadium atmosphere would affect the outcome of the game at all. Your superior coach and players will beat the shit out of us all on their own.
Capitalism for me, but not for my players* oh and maybe an extra bit socialism on top of my brother’s salary please. But not for the poors.
Not really. What makes a glorified gym teacher making millions automatically less corruptible than kids pulling in a few hundred grand? Alabama’s baseball coach was making more than any pediatricians and still got caught up by greed.
Age and experience. His entire point is that these kids are having all this money dumped upon them. Something he didnt put a value statement on, btw. Hes very pro NIL. They're getting all this life changing money, and given very little support on how to manage everything that comes with it. It's a new challenge that comes with the NIL era. He wasnt besmirching NIL, the kids or the money they make at all.
So you understand he made the comparison of making more than a life saving doctor to illustrate the type of money they're making. A comparison that had zero negativity directed at the fact these kids are making that kind of money. Then goes on to discuss the challenges that come with it, and how we need to support them better. A challenge of his and every other cfb coach.
What made the comment so dumb — and the reaction what it was — is that there’s zero correlation between the saving of lives and income. Giving Drinkwitz complete benefit of the doubt, that part of the quote was a total non sequitur.
Doctors are famous for having perfect spending habits b/c they got money 4-6 years after CFB players getting money
If you feel that way, fine. The attempt by some to isolate that part of his answer, remove all context and recontextualize it into something completely different is pretty bizarre. I get it's cfb and everyone likes to get their dunks in. But it's a pretty disingenuous move. We dont need to bog down the thread anymore. You can have the last word.
They've had multiple years to figure this shit out and we're going to have some dumbass temporary schedule, aren't we?
It's only temporary until they convince ESPN to pay more & take enough shame from the other conferences? It should be 4 years no matter what. Let everyone get one cycle through.
If we cannot manage to move on from the Drinkwitz quote, then I am going to tag Dbl and start a shoe discussion.
this was my interpretation as well, I took it as him just saying that it’s a big issue that adds new dynamics to the locker room but I can be a dumb dumb just like everyone else so maybe I misread it
That's a lie or they factually do not do shit other than glad hand rich boosters. Not sure which is worse
Byrne had a suggestion while acknowledging the required majority might not be ready to go that far. “There’s been some discussion about, do you lose a home game?” Byrne said. “I don’t know how much support that has. Is there a way to do some more fines in a little more creative way? Some of those things are being discussed right now that maybe would get everybody’s attention. I think there’s better education we could do.”
At the end of the day, making the coaches the face of your NIL plight is not going to get you where you want to go if you’re one of the ones pushing for NIL legislation/change. The same goes for the crying Saban has been doing about it.
