North Carolina was my wife's #1, and as a fan of the Carolinas I was down but it didn't work for her job so we decided on SC. I'm a southern boy I guess. I wasn't moving outside of ACC/SEC country.

Gl to you guys on the move. I have so much anxiety about moving to another state. Can't wait until it's done.

Lived in Greenville for years and Charleston. I loved South Carolina but was over it after awhile. My buddies that still live in Charleston are considering moving. So many people have moved there they’re just tired of it and the crazy traffic now.

Greenville peeps bitch about their traffic alot but I've been on Woodruff road a few times now during the holidays and it's not worse than Dale Mabry/Carrolwood which is year round.

Woodruff is only ever bad because it’s 4 lanes. Agree though Tampa traffic is worse.

Same. The double pane windows we had installed earlier this year have made a massive difference.

Going to miss my friends and neighbors definitely. My neighborhood is incredible. Like 12 families that all get together all the time.

Had to take an Uber home instead of a usual 15 minute walk home from the bars. So many Nebraska people traveled here for volleyball, crazy fanbase support.

Made a bet with my two nephews (Ages 15 and 12) on a little trip for getting all A's and looking for a Thurs-Sunday long wknd at the end of Feb. They wanted to go to Florida and fish one day, but that's all I got so far. We were thinking of flying into the Ft. Myers area, but I guess are up for any suggestions. Anything else to do in that area with kids, any recs on places to stay, should I be looking in another part of Florida?

Not much to do in Fort Myers. Sanibel Island and Captiva are there though, which they would probably like if they want to fish and do beach stuff.

No idea what Sanibel and Captiva is looking like these days after the storm, but that’s where I’d go if that’s what you’re looking at. South seas plantation You could do a spring training game as well over in ft myers

if you want to really do something cool, go down to Everglades city and chokoloskee. Could do airboats back in the sawgrass and fish in the mangroves. Fishing will be really good that time of year. Could do some other Everglades stuff as well

Is there any reasonably priced country clubs or golf clubs that are accessible from downtown Tampa?

Carollwood CC looks like it’s about ~30 mins and the prices aren’t too crazy

I’m a social member at Carrollwood CC. Gets you access to all the amenities and play at the member rate 5-6 times a year. That’s even more then than I actually get to play.

Anyone have kids that play in the Under the Lights flag league at Carrollwood Day?

My kids first day was yesterday. 5-6 year old team. Within 10 minutes of arrival we had 2 dads arguing over if they should be playing man or zone.

Yep. Sounds about right. That’s all the leagues. Expect super teams and the kids that are good but not elite almost never see the field if your kid ends up on a super team. If he is on the field all plays will go to the good kids.

Correct answer is man though but you have to work on their eye discipline. Once you get to 7-8 it’s clearly a zone match with the corners and rover. Line backer in zone with two high safeties.

It's nuts. I was walking by one of the older games, probably 7th or 8th grade. It was the last minute, kid throws a hail mary and I stopped right at the goal line as it's coming down. Kid catches it, falls down, and is clearly short. The mom of either the QB or the kid that caught it immediately storms the field to protest the call. Week 1 of flag football!

What was the down and distance? Is the QB a dual threat? Did the other team have anyone with speed to take the top off the defense?

My 8 yr old has his first Under the Lights game in Westchase this coming Friday. We played there last year, so we're familiar with what to expect. But I've found the crazier parents are generally on the teams that have been together for a couple seasons. And that's for all sports leagues.

The team he's on this season has a small core that has been together for a couple of years. Coaches seem pretty good too, but we'll see how they act on gameday

Yep it’s completely ridiculous, although those refs are awful. We were in the second round of the playoffs last season and my kid hit one of our receivers on a seam route. He ran a good 2 to 3 yards past the first downline. One of the opponents grabbed his flag, then ran backwards and threw it behind the first down. The ref said we did not pick up the first down because that’s where the flag was our main coach almost got kicked out of the game.

Yeah, it's rough for all youth sports. Had a kid on my son's soccer team get pulled down by his shirt as he was about to break away for a scoring opportunity. No whistle.

Honestly feel like a big reason parents start jawing and get in fights is because refs don't call blatant penalties.

Ref’d soccer from the time I was 13 until I graduated undergrad. I can assure you that we hate you (parents) as much as you hate us. Pulling line duty on the parents’ side is the third circle of hell.

The Next Door thread on this is hundreds of posts long and gets bumped every week or so. Some think it's the fish others believe it's the liberal mayor that soft on crime doing this somehow or at least not caring to investigate or might be trying to drive out all the conservatives.

Having major fomo not being at my professions national conference that's in New Orleans this week, so I'm currently at the 1 independently owned Cajun "restaurant" (it's more of a glorified food truck) I've been able to find in the Tampa area. About to eat this Oyster poboy and ordered a muffuletta and cup of Gumbo (my normal order) to go to have for lunch tomorrow.

If you're ever in Dunedin for lunch on a nice afternoon, Happy's Bayou Bites is a must.

My neighbor has a standing offer to split the cost of cutting down my giant oak. As pretty of a tree as it is, this time of year always has me strongly considering.
