This is what I'm saying. I don't expect us to be a Superbowl contender but if Williams is anything close to what he's projected to be it's a disservice not to spend and make the team the best it can be. Carolina just spent $150 million on their guards. Fucking Jets just signed Simpson for 18 million. Dude started every single game for the Ravens, and while penalty prone was decent and reliable. Alegretti 3 for $16 mil. Those are easily managed contracts we could have outbid for. At this point I'm hoping we trade back a few spots and hope JPJ is still there while recouping a 2nd/3rd and grabbing one of the 2nd/3rd tier WRs. No way we fill every need with the draft, unless we're not trying to seriously make noise this year.
Still holding out hope they land some big names because they’re not all of the board, but that hope is waning fast. Poles seems to have some Hoyer tendencies where he refuses to overpay even slightly in free agency (swift signing may be an exception). I think even if the team is uncomfortable with the price they still need to sign Hunter. It won’t be longer than 3 years of guaranteed money, you’re not going to irreparably fuck up your cap by doing it
I’m worried Hunter is a non starter for Poles because he fuses to give money to anyone over 30 it seems.
Was it getsy? Gets an OC job immediately. Was it Mooney? Gets a big contract? Was it Fields? No one will touch him. the world may never know
You're also talking about a 25 year old vs a 30 year old. Henry is definitely not your average RB, but that's pretty old for his position.
I don’t see the logic of keeping him unless it is through training camp and pre season and hoping for an injury. The best scenario is maybe that he chooses to sit out and we keep his rights. I can’t see what more leverage he gets from that though. One year doesn’t make sense to me. Even if it was the case that he came into a game and was an effective back up, we remain in an awkward spot with Williams.
Don’t know anything about him but Waldron clearly knows a ton. At least crosses off a position of need.
It's fine because Bryd could be washed... Depth is a good thing in the secondary. Sign a WR, IOL and Edge please...
who are they planning on starting on the edge? 1 is Williams, 9 is a WR... where do you add the starting edge
it’ll be sweat and walked, sign a depth guy, draft an edge in the 3rd or 4th round or earlier if you trade back at 9 which I definitely think is in play. I’m also not 100% sold they won’t take an edge at 9 or trade back and take an edge if the receivers they like are gone
No reason not to offer Hunter that contract. Poles just absolutely refuses to pay anyone over 30. Everyone just has to face the fact that they will have one or two or three big holes to start the year. It’s either that or they trade out of 1 or 9 or both, which will tick everyone off. Maybe some GM gets desperate for Justin if they miss their QB in the first round but doubtful. Only other thing I see is having all this space and being able to jump on a cap casualty that may happen prior to the season. Just accept that the Center will once again be another teams trash, Walker will be a starting DE, and EQ will be WR3. I’m sure he’ll fix one of those 3 by trading a 2nd at the deadline next year.
I really dislike tweets like this. While I’m irked with Poles right now, he’s clearly better than the buffoons in the previous regime
Very low bar though Bears are the worst at hiring GMs They just hire some 95 year old to advise them every time
I’m still holding out hope for poles. He’s gotten more right than he’s got wrong. It'll obviously be tougher if he’s unwilling to spend where the market is for elite players, but we know he definitely takes swings to get elite pieces in other ways. Obviously it’s all going to come down on if Caleb is the guy or not though
If Poles drafts an edge in the first round this year I'm out on him. At some point you have to devote significant resources to your offense
Schefter saying the chargers will be dumping salary today so there should be some extra edge/WR options.
Renfrow getting release. He was crap last year but there QBs were scared not to target Adams. Not the best WR3 but better than what’s currently on the roster. Doubt he signs cheap because no one is so it’s probably a non starter.
You guys cleaning up a ton of B/C level free agents to the point where every position group gets reinforcement wouldn't be the worst idea. You are going to get blue chip players at 1.1 and 1.9, and if you go that route of high volume mid level fa's you should have a good foundation to get more aggressive next year with free agency. I understand being hesitant to play at the top of the market when next year will have a rookie QB. I would have perhaps been more aggressive at interior OL.
NM. Can’t find a tweet I had pulled up earlier. EDIT: Found it again, from a KC guy. Shows were actually crushing FA, not because the new players are great, but because the old players were crap. (Also their maths aren’t mathing, Chi score should be +.673 but they don’t know how to subtract a neg value).
Atlanta paying a good amount for Mooney and Tenn getting Ridely means there’s a better chance at one of the 3 WRs to fall.
