I've never understood it, other than guys have watched the draft for years and it's a dream to be there after seeing all the other guys do it. I can barely handle the stress of watching my team pick players, let alone be there when you don't know when you're going to be picked.

Feels like the talk of four QBs going in the top 4-5 is dying down.

Yeah, it seems like that was about teams like Cardinals and Chargers drumming up interest in their picks. I’d surprised at this point if there was a big move up for QB4, whoever that ends up being

I think the conversation is likely Minnesota and New England at 3 for Maye. And if NE isn't sold on Maye, I could see that. But that price to move up from 11 or 12 to 4-5 is just really high.

Idk, I still could see one of the Giants, Vikings, or Broncos try to work a deal with the Cardinals to move up up 4 for a QB if they really like whoever is still there.

Adam Caplan was on a draft podcast saying he's talked to 8-10 teams that don't have a first round grade on McCarthy, he acknowledged that teams will take a QB in the 10-20 range with a rd 2 grade due to the position but might be the league isn't as high on JJ as everyone thought a month or two ago. As always it only takes on team to get excited and move up to 4 though.

Caplan doesn't have great sources with every single team and he's not a league/agent mouthpiece like Schefter but he's usually pretty accurate. Also said every team he talks to has the Toledo kid as CB1

The way Nate Tice put it too is that there might be 15-20 guys with "first round grades" and QBs easily get a half round inflation in where they get picked. So if you have JJ at ~25 on the board and he goes 7 or so that's plausible.

To me QB feels more binary. If they aren't worth it at 8 then they aren't worth it at 38 either and probably not 48. That all changes when you are considering it's teams deciding whether to trade up to a spot. Minnesota deciding that they are willing to trade up to 8 is different than deciding whether to trade up to 3

I think JJ is kind of a unique conversation with the "if not 8, not 38 either" thing because he's legitimately talented enough that it's not crazy to think he could be a top 15 QB in the league at some point in his rookie deal, but you have to project a lot because of his age as much as anything else. There aren't a ton of QBs like him in previous drafts in that kind of range. Nix/Penix are more along the lines of normal drafts in that regard.

But I agree completely on the trade up into the top 5 part. "Sure, I'll draft him at 10 if he's there" is a very different conversation than "I would trade multiple first rounders to jump other teams to go get him".

Brugler released 'the beast', his draft guide, last week I've wondered if this is all just for the athletic readers? Or, does he package and sell it for scouts and/or networks or something? It seems like an insane amount of work to release a scouting profile of hundreds of players two weeks before the draft when it feels like readers are just as happy with mocks that are lazily thrown together?

i've seen this proposed AZ/LAC trade a couple of times by different people and i don't get it at all. though they have the #4 pick, they're no threat to take a QB so they don't have a ton of leverage. it's crazy to me that AZ would get a better trade package for essentially going from 4 to 5 - and still guaranteeing to get their guy - while LAC would drop from 5 to 11 and run the risk of losing out on their preferred OL or WR.

Arizona isn't a threat to take a QB but they are a threat to trade their pick to a different team that wants a QB.

I get what you're saying, but in theory it would seem like that only works this way if there are multiple teams trying to jump to 4 for McCarthy with massive offers. And I'm not sure anything coming out of Denver to this point suggests the Broncos are looking all that hard to do that for what it would take.

If Minnesota is the only team trying to jump into the top 5 and LAC is willing to drop to 11, wouldn't LAC just tell Minnesota "whatever Arizona is asking for, we'll do it for a little less" to undercut them?

Yes, the big package isn’t out there unless they get the Pats to bite or their top QB(seems like that would be Maye?) falls to 4. Maybe it’s JJ and the Cardinals can pull off this dream heist… but I just don’t see why Minnesota would do this unless their convinced the Giants or someone else wants the same QB

i understand that but my point is that LAC would seemingly be happy to stay at 5 and draft the #1 non-QB whereas AZ would not be happy to stay at #11 and draft WR#4 or whatever else

Think people doing these mocks also should take into account that Minnesota has 2 ones, but doesn't have picks in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Denver doesn't have a 2 this year. Denver would basically be dumping two drafts into that trade for the right to take a QB who is probably not a top 10 player on their board if they did that, for example.

This is stupid on all types of levels. Its not even a top 3 position of need for us. We would need to find a trade partner for our current LT. If we ignore all those points... There is not a significant difference between Alt and Olu that giving up future draft capital is justified.

I don't really see the need for Chicago to move off 9... Stay and take the best Edge or one of the big 3 WRs and call it a day.

Sure, then take Murphy from Texas and you filled the 3T spot. I find it unlikely your scenario plays out but that doesn't change the fact you shouldn't be moving up in the draft for the 4th biggest need. The Bears need a QB, Edge, 3T in that order of importance. You can then debate if WR or OT should come next. Given the age of our current top two WRs I would put WR ahead of OT.

Id let the two guys I just drafted at the position last year get more than one year before I use a premium pick to replace them
