Got real bad FOMO after listening to Trey and Page interviews on SXM earlier today. Watching now… kang’firmed. Not just a fear. I think I actually am missing out, especially since there’s a chance they never play there again.
Making things worse, I fully expect to be told to turn the volume to Phish down in 10 minutes when the TSwift album drops. Wife is going to listen on headphones, so that’s fair, but still
I think the chances of them never playing there again is incredibly small. Their touring changing as they age, and more ‘residency’ type runs seem to be their future. Given their relationship with MSG, their history in Vegas, and their ability to sell out as many shows in a row as they can book, it’s hard for me to come up with any realistic reason why they won’t come back. Halloween 2025 hopefully…
Have a buddy going this weekend. Extremely jealous. Also excited to hear the Eggy after Vegas sphere show from last night as well
I might be in the minority, but i just don’t seem too impressed by some of the visuals. I’m sure is was amazing if you’re there due to the scale and resolution. But I guess I expected something a little less “stock” from phish if that makes sense
I found it to be underwhelming. Some parts were definitely cool, but things like the scrolling TVs in Life Saving Gun and cars in Tweezer were a head scratcher. Some people are of the mind that the theme is “Evolve” and they are going to move through different eras of graphic design visuals and this was starting at the basic. I think that might be being a little optimistic though. But yeah, some of that stuff looked like Windows 95 screensavers or a Winamp visualizer.
I actually just came in here to post something similar. I'm sure it's amazing, but I just like the classic CK5 lights. 2001 when it's all dark but spotlights roaming over the crowd, strobe on buildup leading to bright white at climax, etc.
Not being able to change or respond to the music is definitely noticeable when you take CK out of the equation. There were some really nice highs and peaks last night but then there’s just a scrolling static image behind them.
I think the in person experience was probably wildly different (duh). It’s also a work in progress and something completely new from what they’ve done for the past 40 years from the amps to the lights to the stage setup to Fish being in a bowl as PrinceWimbley noted. They also did a lot of spatial audio distortion which seemed to have its pluses and minuses. As with any run, I imagine the momentum will continue to gain steam and by second set tonight it should be pretty well dialed in. Just another reason for them to come back to the sphere so they can get it just exactly right next time.
Some of it was definitely meh on tv, but probably different from seat perspective. I feel like the stuff during Antelope would have sent me spinning. Whenever I make it there I’m looking for a seat for sure to take it all in.
This buying time is fantastic. Jake Brownsteins solo on it is absolutely majestic https://2nu.gs/3vZgukY
Getting married next Summer and we're in the process of booking the band. So funny squaring my musical tastes w/ the standard wedding band repertoire. Fuck Bruno Mars, I want them open with Feelin' Alright > Ophelia > Hey Pocky A-Way
Well, they have until next summer to learn those tunes. All 3 are bass player / drummer songs. Probably best if you just hire George Porter to play your gig. https://www.instagram.com/georgeporterjr
