Fine give them an auto bid that matches up against bama every year Edit: misread and thought it said that they wouldn't soften stance
I just assumed it was posturing to ensure multiple television partners for the CFP. Warren basically enlisted the ACC and PAC to ensure the SEC and ESPN wouldn’t wield all the power.
"The Big Ten, one of the three who stymied a months-long expansion exploration, had pushed hard for automatic qualifiers for Power 5 conference champions. The proposal guaranteed access for the six highest ranked FBS conference champions, and while the Big Ten champion would assuredly be one of them, it wasn’t an explicit assigned spot in the way that conference tournament champions earn access in the NCAA basketball tournaments." This seems like an easy stance to soften.
That’s dumb to guarantee a G5 conference champ gets into the playoffs. Most years there’s absolutely no one worthy.
Fox formerly held broadcast rights to most BCS Bowl games under the old system from 2006-2009. When Fox partnered to create the Big Ten Network in 2007, ESPN moved to kill Fox in post season and has had most of it since 2011. Fox wants back in.
will never forgive them for their Boise-Oklahoma broadcast. Announcers tried sabotaging one of the best cfb bowls ever hope next time they lay off the beta bowl bash branding and dancing robots
Nothing is ever dead in college football right now. Once they decide something makes them more money, they suddenly decide to do it.
Of one thing I'm certain: we should design the college football playoff with only the present in mind
True, but it also takes a little shine off some games. A 2 vs 4 match up in week 12 isn't as big bc the loser still gets in with 12 teams. But now a 10 vs 12 game has some meaning so it somewhat evens out. But that 10 or 12 team is most likely getting boatraced in round 1 so does it really matter?
As a fan, I'm way more intrigued by a 2 vs 4 in week 12 with a playoff berth on the line than I am a 10 vs 12.
I figured everyone against cfp expansion just b/c their conference commish told them to be would realize it was all a charade last year
That's fair, but I think for the overall health of college football keeping those teams/fans engaged ($$$) is more important.
It’s always super weird that it’s mostly the fans of the 2 or 3 teams that always make it in who aren’t interested in changing anything.
2 v 4 matters in seeding. If you’re 4 and get boat raced you can drop down to a matchup against a way harder team in R1 or miss a potential bye, depending on how the finished playoff bracket looks.
This is the thing. As a fan of CFB with no dog in any playoff fight the playoff era has mostly been incredibly boring. It’s the same teams almost every year and has been for a decade.
March Madness December Delerium? January I can't think of any synonyms for madness that start with a J
ND can go 10-2 for eternity never win a big game and make the playoffs every year probably not the best system
Is it going to be Bama/OSU/Clemson/Notre Dame or Bama/OSU/Notre Dame/LSU or Bama/Georgia/Clemson/Washington or Clemson/Bama/OSU/Michigan St or Notre Dame/Bama/OSU/Oklahoma the intrigue my goodness
