Story on ESPN says that a bunch of fights broke out and then the police came in with tear gas. People were getting trampled to death running to the exits and some got trapped and suffocated from the gas. I'm assuming a lot probably died in the fights too.
Mass deaths due to natural disasters unfortunately happen quite often. Over 120 people dying at a sporting event does not. So don’t really understand you dismissing it. If that’s what you were going for.
No it’s a horrible tragedy How does this happen, is there any fault towards the home team, home stadium, the league itself? We cry and shame the NFL for one dude getting a concussion… can you imagine 200 folks dying at an NFL game… it’s just unthinkable
There’s a documentary I watched a year or two ago about how insanely dangerous the Indonesian league is for fans. Pretty sure it was made by Vice.
The frequency of crowd crushes is pretty astonishing as are the physics. At some level if you aren’t paying attention in a crowded situation, by the time the danger is obvious it’s already too late. This appears to be more of a stampede but the same thing happens, you fall and then more people fall on you as a result of your fall and then you die of asphyxiation. Terrifying.
