I knew that damn name sounded familiar. I remember editing his name into Arkansas football roster in NCAA ‘06 when he played there.
Wommack seems like a really good hire though Coulda bombed it and hired some Masshole pud from the Northeast
Brennan hired. Surprised the Athletic Department moved quickly for once and it wasn't the usual long coaching search.
good hire all things considered. He was going to be the guy at Oregon St if they didn’t promote Bray. Was able to make San Jose St. competitive.
Sounds like a big Leipold extension will be announced in next 24 hours. I hope they crank up that buyout # bigly
It’s pretty rare for coaches to have huge buyouts if they are hired away. Most guys have big buyouts if the school fires them. Coaches have a lot of leverage and schools are fine with not having huge buyouts if it’s what it takes to get them to be their coach.
I made that statement on the assumption his buyout was on the lower side, so increasing it bigly would just make it better for KU, not impossible for someone to poach him
Have you heard any details? JK said he thought Leipold was going after more Assistant and staffing money and NIL from the Washington job. I had assumed they promised Leipold a pay bump over not interviewing with Michigan State earlier in the cycle.
This trend actually sucks. Thank God my school's head coach is a drunken old man who at this point would be considered unemployable by most schools.
I have no clue what to think of this move for him other than he must have thought Buffalo was going to suck next year. I feel bad for the assistants at Buffalo and South Alabama. They're in a really weird spot when the guy who hired you just leaves for an assistant gig and you're in limbo in mid-January.
Who is going to be the first sitting ACC or Big 12 coach to take a massive payday to be a coordinator somewhere? Feels like Justin Wilcox to me.
I swear at one point someone who would be considered a quasi Michigan insider said Iowa had interest in Gattis.
I still can’t believe Oregon sent out a (poison pill) offer for that dude to appease like 10 loud former players to be HC in 2021.
Pretty easy to imagine whoever is coaching Boston College in 2026 getting them rolling (by their standards) and then getting plucked by an Ohio State/Michigan/Bama/UGA type as a coordinator.
He’s 14-23 in his 3 seasons there and finished 3-9 this season, I think he decided to leave before they changed the locks on him.
He was making less than 700k at Buffalo. The money being what it is for assistants at the top of the power 2 and probably the bulk of the staff makes that much. The trend does really suck but a byproduct that will probably get worse as the money disparity gets larger.
I get that, but he's 39 years old and a HC. If Buffalo fired him, he could have gotten the same kind of job a year from now. I think we can safely say that considering he's almost certainly getting a raise over what he was making there to coach at Bama after going 14-23 in 3 seasons. And 3 years ago, he was a co-DC at Michigan and left in May to take this job, which has always sucked as a job so at the time he thought that career path was a better idea. Obviously, the portal has changed some of that, but it's still kind of weird. And to be clear, this has nothing to do with him leaving Michigan. I was happy for him then and I'm extremely happy with the person they hired to replace him. He's just had a weird career of jumping all over the place and then looking for something else.
It’s happening across the MAC. Rumors that Jason Candle may leave HC at Toledo to be an assistant at Ohio State.
zero chance he’s going anywhere lol i wish he was …….makes over 4 million a year with close to $16 million more guaranteed, yeah he’s totally just going to leave generational wealth on the table to become a coordinator for half the money…….absurd
Agreed. The only circumstance I could see him leaving under would be to get out in front of being fired. Hence, why I cited the low expectations.
he gets fired he has 16 million coming to him, which is Knowlton the AD is such a fucking idiot for giving him that monster extension
Ted Roof, Herb Hand, Alex Grinch, and Tim Beck are coaching enigmas in this sport that continue to somehow get jobs
