How are you? Speed is one of his best attributes. It's a skill that goes earlier than other skills like power. He takes a decent hit when that speed fades. Knowing that, paying him through 41 seems aggressive to me. I think he's a great player but idk if I'd want to be paying him at 37-40, which is 27.5% of the contract. If you're cool with it, that's fine. No need to be defensive of others that aren't as optimistic of it.
I just think you're being reductive of his skillset. if you look at fWAR there wasn't a SS in the league more valuable than him strictly offensively last year. and last year was a down year for him offensively compared to the prior two.
You think his speed doesn't help his offense? Again, I like the guy a lot. I just think he's a way different player in 4-5 years if/when his legs go south.
Yo White Sox, are you interested in a .316 singles hitter with no set defensive position and a history of leg injuries? Cool, give us Dylan Cease. I love Arraez but he’s not the centerpiece of a top 2-3 starter, let alone somebody elite.
I'm pretty sure Gammons once comped him to Jeff Bagwell. And if he didn't, I'm not mad at myself for convincing myself he did.
Say what now? Either Heyman is stupid wrong or Tony Clark would like a word with Mr. Turner and his representatives.
athletic has an article on why he took the discount cliff notes- CA taxes played a role in Padres having to inflate offer vs Phillies, Phillies woke up Mon am knowing they didn’t have highest offer and believed he was going to SD, Turner’s agent came back to them and said Philly is where be wants to play
Idk how true it is, but it's wild to me that Spring Training location plays such a big role in these decision. It's six weeks of the year.
He will be living in NJ with the rest of Philly athletes because NJ is the greatest place to live in the country
Lot of the dudes live there the second the off-season starts. I’m not saying it’s not weird, just longer than six weeks for a guy concerned about living in Florida.
What does SD's aggressive pursuit of middle infielders say about Tatis? I know he's out for another 60 games (I think), but they have a shitload invested in him as well.
I grew up a big, if not bigger, A's fan. The A's were probably the bigger draw in the Bay Area through the mid 90s. I gave up on them almost 20 years ago though. Just couldn't put myself through it.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Rangers met with Carlos Rodon just one day after signing Jacob deGrom to a hefty five-year, $185MM contract
