I don’t understand the narrative both in media and amongst the fans. What has Lando accomplished to make him some clear cut #1 driver. Since Oscar has come along they seem to be neck and neck. Oscar was more hyped coming into F1 than Lando. The British based media wants Lando to be such a thing it’s really annoying.
The funny thing is even with that quote from Nico being fake, it's not wrong. Lando really could win a championship this season by only winning a small handful of races just because their car has taken such a step forward and Red Bull has fallen off so much. When was the last time we've had this type of fluidity amongst the top teams during a season?

No way, basically only Max and Lewis were winning races that season unless something crazy happened like Hungary or Monza. Max won 10 races, Lewis won 8, Perez and Bottas each got 1, so that's two constructors winning 20 of the 22 races. The other two were under weird circumstances. This year we have Max with 7, Lando, Lewis, and Charles with 2 and a few other 1 time winners. All four top constructors have at least 3 wins...that's crazy
Yeah he is (only 43 back from Lando), but the margin to Verstappen is pretty high (106). 106 points in 8 races is a pretty tall order If McLaren really gave a shit about Lando they could absolutely win the title for him (had they done team orders at Monza and gotten the 1-2), but they'd basically have to use Piastri as a sacrificial lamb. And I think there are some at McLaren that think long term Piastri will be the better driver and they don't want to piss him and Webber off. Ever since Lando had his moment of impatience at Austria and got crashed out, Piastri has finished ahead of him in 4 of the last 6 races. They think Piastri is starting to figure things out in his second season and really gaining momentum.
there is a lot of money for Oscar in finishing 2nd. That was my point in him racing Lando hard and justifiably. the priority for McLaren should be constructors title not drivers.
If they were going to do this they should have done it a few races ago and it would have been a lot easier for them. The British media have been on an all out offensive for this to happen
The Red Bull doesn't look bad so far, I think Verstappen is going to be solid this weekend. His comments on Wednesday about Lando being in contention were interesting.
Lots of offs across the board, but max having a couple this morning and his *assumed* relative desperation to get back on top might make for a boom or bust weekend for him.
hard to plan strategy for this track given how many people go off and cause yellows all the time. got ricciardo going too early and track evolution taking him out, lando going too late and a yellow seemingly ending him. wild track.
