It was a bid with Baltimore, and I think games would have been there.
their bid was Baltimore's stadium with DC hosting teams
I was posting more for reaction
Foxboro/Boston was the surprise but would Denver even be in line before Nashville or Baltimore/DC?
KC hosting the NFL draft next year, new airport will be completed a couple months before that.
So BBVA was given the game. When they announced Tigres new stadium back in January, they said they would host. It's Mexico so politics will likely change this a few times before the tournament starts
Already have to force teams to play in elevation to play in Mexico. Don’t think Denver had much of a chance.
Yea iirc their local leaders werent as keen on the financial commitments as the other two, as much as I felt Denver deserved it over them. Cant blame them.
Fucking bummed DC/Baltimore didn't get it but oh well Philly is close enough.
It should be ahead of Nashville imo. I’m guessing Nashville would have hosted at the Titans stadium and not Nashville SC?
not at all surprising but all of Boston/NY/NJ/Philly hosting is lame
yeah Nashville sucks in general and especially as a sports town and would need to quadruple the number hotels before then
I turn 40 a few months before the World Cup and just told my wife for my 40th I’m going to as many games/venues as I can afford. She was not thrilled
As much as I would be better off having games in Cincy, let’s be real; it was surprising Cincy was even a finalist
Thought Nashville was getting a new football stadium? Maybe that was one of the promises of they’d gotten the bid?
they want one in time for 2026 NFL season, but FIFA was not going to risk that. Plus their airport situation is not a Plus relative to competition.
Yup, wasn’t arguing for it (although selfishly that’s the easiest for me to get to). But just adding that Nashville would have had a state of the art stadium by 2026
Don’t think I’m a fan of this. I guess with the extra teams/games there will be a lot of matches overlapping though.
Can’t wait to go to Colombia v. Spain in 2026.
This will get asked a lot, but the stadiums that regularly have turf will lay down grass months before the WC. Not some shitty tray system a week or two before it starts.
No Vegas with that stadium and retractable natural grass makes zero sense
Its dimensions didn’t meet the criteria. They pulled their bid after they met with FIFA. They were just using their bid to secure funding for the stadium.
and no Florida City should host a World Cup game during summer without a new retractable roof stadium . If you don’t start the game at 9pm there is a good chance it is miserable for players and fans , or even gets delayed by a storm
I mean, there were games in a literal rainforest in 2014.
man I fucking hate Boston
+ the parking for the stadium is awful.
I could see Vegas getting the draw like in 1994. This is the original bid book fwiw...
Today basically went according to plan, other than the USA getting an extra city once Edmonton gave up. All the selected cities will meet in NYC saturday with FIFA to give their pitch on quantity of matches and other infractructure.
One thing I never considered that I found interesting was highlighting the % of foreign residents for each US city.
KC (7.1%) and Atlanta (7.3%) were the lowest chosen. Cincinnati (3.4%) and Baltimore (6.5%) were the only lower
They're gonna make a trillion dollars off wannabe Italians and Irish
I don’t know. Even with an expanded field, is Italy going to make it?
I didn’t realize zeberdee was doing that well
Through a playoff they might
Only the Euros will complain about the weather/conditions if their teams aren’t in either Vancouver, Toronto, or Seattle. They’ll even complain about climate controlled stadiums like Atlanta, Dallas and Houston because it’ll be 100+ outside.
Hilarious thing is Euros fucking love Miami too.
I wish they would release criteria scores. Be very interesting to see what actually matters.
One thing and one thing only matter$
Philly to Boston distance for the English might as well be LA to Mexico City.
Nothing like the English bitching about the harrowing journey from London to Newcastle.
The video content of their supporters, depending on which cities England has to play in, could be legendary.
They might melt on mild Buffalo wings.
Need to get them eating hot chicken. Howlin' Ray's in LA or some such since you can find it everywhere now.
- An Englishman died in the States at the WC
- His mates dared him to eat a small bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos
Give em a break guys, they eat Nandos
No more surprising then KC being a finalist. The only reason either city even had a chance is because Chicago didn't bid. They would have easily won if they wanted in.
Philly’s is even more insane I think
By the time the World Cup comes that baseball stadium probably won’t be there so think of all the extra spots they’d be able to add. Amazing stuff.
Are they finally giving up and folding the Royals?
Nashville Royals or Royals de Montréal
