yeah haven’t heard about how Cesaro or Rusev are owed world title runs in a while, it’s almost like they were at the level they belonged the whole time
Are rosters much more bloated than during the Attitude/WCW era? I remember playing WCW/NWO Revenge and No Mercy and it was a sizeable roster but I could be misremembering.
There wasn’t nearly as much TV time to fill back then. And the industry outside of WCW/WWF was much healthier/bigger so it wasn’t necessarily WWF or WCW being the only two places in America that could pay you. Japan’s wrestling industry outside of New Japan was also in significantly better condition than it is now.
What WWE guy has elevated themselves to a main eventer after moving over? Potentially Swerve but the jury is still out.
There was tons of TV time to fill out back then, what are you talking about 3 hour Nitro Thunder WCW Saturday Night WCW Worldwide Raw Smackdown Sunday Night Heat Shotgun Saturday Night Jakked/Metal mid 2000s, then it streamed on the website
My dad got really mad in 98 and cancelled cable for like 6 months. Had to keep up by watching shotgun Saturday night and Worldwide that were syndicated on local channels at weird times. Hope my friends would remember to tape Raw for me. Kids today don’t know the struggle.
I would say almost every WWE move has been worse off. Daniel Bryan being the worst use of an elite talent from WWE thus far.
Kenny King has been granted his release from IMPACT this week. That might have to be the new betting favorite for the new AEW signing then.
Miro never really recovered from Vince completely blowing up Rusev Day. That was organic and hot as hell, but since he wasn’t some foreign monster heel anymore, Vince hated that and had him pinned by Jinder fucking Mahal at WM34.
My realistic best guesses after Ospreay (since SRS squashed Mercedes Mone signing) are Kenny King, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Richard Holiday, Ronda Rousey, and Sami Callihan.
Tony better hope it’s Will or Mone because if it’s any of the others he will be torn apart and rightly so. Kenny King…..fucking lol.
Swerve’s and Nana’s reactions reactions during the Hangman promo were just fantastic. Don’t steal that man’s weed Hangman. To me easily the real main event of Full Gear.
Brodie Lee was a mid-card champion and then he died. FTR only main event PPV as a tag team in ROH in front of 2000 people
he wrestled mox for the title at double or nothing which was the biggest singles match on the card (stadium stampede went on after). He was one of the top 4-5 singles wrestlers in the company. That’s a main eventer for a company in my opinion
Brody Lee was absolutely on his way to being a top guy. Everyone in WWE at the same time as him as Luke Harper will tell you that Vince completely botched him.
so not the main event, got it Jericho, Moxley, Omega, Hangman, Cody were all ahead of him in the pecking order so not top 4-5 either his final PPV match involved QT Marshall and Colt Cabana
That’s saying something when (X-Pac heat level) Roman beat 52 y/o Taker in a non-title match in a 23 minute fucking match in the main event of WM33. Had Roman broke The Streak instead of Lesnar, the Citrus Bowl would be ashes. And, Vince absolutely would’ve pulled that trigger on Roman breaking The Streak.
whether or not a match is good doesn't really have any bearing on whether it was the main event or not, that's the literal spot on the card. HHH and Jericho still main evented WM18 even if they got completely outclassed by Rock and Hogan
It’s alright guys, Sid Justice was way more over than Ric Flair and Randy Savage because he headlined WM8 over them.
his biggest feuds were with Cody and Mox. If you’re consistently feuding with the top guys in the company you’re a top guy in the company.
Go ask Brody’s contemporaries in WWE like Big E and they’ll tell you that Brody was finally moving to his spot on the card where he should’ve been for a long time before his passing. If you didn’t think Brody belonged near the top of the card in either WWE or AEW, go back to watching New Generation horseshit.
Maybe if Brody was alive and still in WWE, he might be involved in a tag team match against the Judgement Day for the millionth time after Damian Priest says the “Judgement Day Runs Raw!”
Did you know the guy? You seem very passionate about him. Big E considered him one of his closest friends, of course he'll speak highly of him. He was well liked in the locker room, nobody denies that. He was a good B+ level guy but not on the level of Universal Champ IMO, there's only 3 or 4 guys on a roster at a given time for that anyways, it's not like it's a slight.
Feel like the next 2 weeks will exceed expectations. Full Gear should have a ton of storyline progression, and Survivor Series is always fun. I’m excited about both events being on Saturday so I can let my son stay up late and buy his love even more.
I did not know Jon Huber but if you saw the many reactions from his peers to his passing, many mentioned that he was deservevedly ascending to near the top of the card. And during the height of the pandemic nonetheless. When did Jon Huber ever make you look away when he was on tv? Cut a great promo, great ring psychology, and could go for a man his size. Meanwhile people are cool with Damian Priest holding the briefcase combined with part timers hold the main SD men’s belts lol.
Not completely shitting on WWE either because women’s division is good and Gunther rules, but I’m just completely over Judgement Day and the Bloodline. They fucked up the Finn being champ with Priest as the MITB holder badly. That was the only interesting part of Priest being MITB. HHH falling into the same NFL holding pattern as Vince is disappointing. They got away with it last year because Sami is incredible, but it’s mostly been recycled shit since football season started this year. I’ve been more entertained by NXT the past month or so. Some misses because it’s obviously developmental but enjoying their big angles. Trick Williams can be a big time guy, and Steiner as a heel as well.
More like if he embraces the babyface reaction. But, Hangman has done such a fantastic job where I’m very interested to see how this L.A. crowd goes on Saturday in this match. If Hangman hadn’t let loose the past month, the Forum would’ve been 100% Swerve, now might be closer to 50/50. It’s regardless going to be one of the hottest crowds of the year for this match.
RR's problem wasn't her in-ring work, though that never really got any better from when she started. It was her terrible character work and her inability to recover when a promo went off the rails, which would absolutely happen in AEW, where they don't hold anyone's hand when it comes to promos. They might protect her some with more backstage interviews and segments, like the Young Bunks, but eventually the fans would sour on her and her value would drop to nothing. edit: now that I've watched that clip, she still hasn't improved. Yeah that was a cool suplex, but she's still doing the most basic "day one" stuff as her featured moves, like hip tosses and clotheslines. Then again she looked like she got absolutely dumped on her head when she took that german, and popped up like it was nothing.
