Ok, I'll keep it here. It isn't a hard point to grasp. This board has a history of posters making dumb comments, hell "nog" was a board-wide joke that I'm sure many people on here used in the past. I'd say most of them feel differently now hence it's no longer a thing. Does that mean all of those posters are defined by their posts from the past? Or are they able to recognize what they said was wrong? I don't understand how you cannot see the relevancy in this completely similar situation.
My man, this was my initial post: What does continuously citing two decades of existence have to do with recognition of wrong?
The general point is that if the history of anything is long enough then as society changes you will be able to look back upon that history and pick out things that are not acceptable in the now. I don't agree that Portnoy labeling Kaep as a terrorist was acceptable at any point, but that is the relevancy of his statement and the meaning behind it. I mean look at the bible, the text which is at the heart of the largest religion in our country.
What difference does it make? The board is entirely liberal now and we had people spouting off about "nogs" 4 years ago. The country as a whole is a hell of a lot different than it was 4 years ago.
Forgiving the ridiculous nature of comparing this board to a multimedia powerhouse, it's a pretty sizable difference and what makes his argument questionable (beyond the inability to mea culpa). Ask yourself, why is he repeatedly mentioning a much longer time period than the one that is actually relevant to the issue at hand?
I think his point with that was, there might be more bad shit out there in addition to this incident if people go back and look hard enough.
That I can certainly buy, but yikes at standing on such an argument in response to a racist bit resurfacing and going viral.
He's certainly not handling this well. He's handling it like Pres from 2014 would have, seemingly still oblivious to how much society has changed since then.
There’s probably a reason they purged the blog before they were originally bought however long ago. he should have just apologized like a fucking adult and this would be over by now
KFC had a pretty solid response. Long, but basically cops up to being an idiot in 2016 and having a far different worldview now. Which, I think is something a lot of TMB posters can relate to.
I mean, if anyone thought this borderline personality is ever going to apologize for anything I’m not sure what to tell you. Also I still don’t see a way he’s cancelled or his company is significantly damaged from this.
I’m not trying to defend Dave, it was more a general point about everyone having skeletons in their closet.
fairly solid stuff from BC and KFC in terms of ownership and big picture stuff. Wish they's take a little more action reflecting their hope for inclusion and diversity within their universe. Guess we shall see.
how long are y’all going to jump through hoops to support them while trying to separate the fact that their leader is a misogynistic racist piece of shit?
You buy shit from Amazon ? Nike ? Apple ? https://www.newsweek.com/apple-huma...ations, the,"serious breaches of compliance." https://web.stanford.edu/class/e297...hat Nike, forced overtime, and arbitrary abuse. https://www.greenamerica.org/blog/1...ting workers' right, during the time of firing.
Why would they need diversity honestly other than saying we hired non-white people? The majority of their core will always be the same. Don't see advertisers jumping because of core, upper-middle class white guys and now girls that will buy anything associated Barstool.
I think BC is more valuable right now to Barstool than Dave is. And I don't even think it's that close.
I think the opposite is true and it’s not close. Dave is in charge of all content. Big cat is in charge of big cat
I think there was certainly a time when BC needed Dave more than the other way around but I’d argue that now Cat has a much better eye for talent and much more hunger and passion to grow the brand. May just be that I’m biased towards the content that I consume, but the BC “coaching tree” if you will seems a hell of a lot stronger than the rest of the company.
...who is in his coaching tree? Billy football? dave singlehandedly brought back CHD which may bring in as much revenue as big cat does
Dave also ran off a CHD co host and had it off the air for months due to his management. To answer your question, PFT, KB, Nick, Rone, Jeff Lowe.
I mean maybe Dave wrote the offer or whatever but BC certainly recruited and sold PFT. Not sure who hired KB but BC obviously took an interest and gave him a shot on the Yak and ultimately went to bat for his buddy Nick. Not really going to go any farther on it because it’s mostly general speculation from people on the outside but again I go back to the fact that when penn acquired them there was one net new equity grant and it only went to Mr. Cat.
I think today is the day tmb’ers leave TMB due to racist/sexist posts because every post represents who we each are and nothing can be separated.
Demanding apologies, in general, are pointless. A sincere apology has to come from within and requires actual reflection and repentance. Dave apologizing isn’t going to change anyone’s mind. He’s not going to get anymore viewers and nobody is going to uncancel him.
