Manchin raised like 4M last time. You think he wants to fight a 30M primary fight and then fight a 10M R candidate? Mitch doesn’t want Manchin as an R, he’d be as annoying as Murkowski, Mitt, and Collins. He’d find a guy that would play ball with him all the time. Or just concede to something that is widely popular among his constituents?
ok, so go back and look at your point. You said Mitch would have dropped 30 Mil into the race and you used that as a false equivalence. You are making my point.
I think we have his answer by his behavior. He does not feel threatened. Again, name the serious candidate who can go against him?
dumping money into the district isn't the only leverage. let him die on the vine in this specific case.
ultimately the point is that the democrats have weak party discipline. parse primary fundraising numbers all you want.
you said Mitch would whip people into shape. The GOP campaigned on repealing the ACA years and then couldn’t get the votes
To be honest, none of us knows what gets said behind the scenes. It is easy to jump to that conclusion but unless one of them comes out and leaks it we don't know what goes on. I think we got a pretty damn good bill. Sure there is room for improvement and now the Dems need to go back and figure out how to get a minimum wage hike.
Manchin voted on an anti-trans amendment. They lost several winnable senate seats and thus they don’t have the votes.
that failed based on a personal grudge and iirc that was a procedural vote. mccain wasn't actually against the repeal.
So I was waiting to file my 2020 taxes until I got my stimulus money. My 2019 taxable income is between $160k and $200k (married filing jointly) and my 2020 income is higher. Is there any point in waiting anymore?
Ppl will probably start getting it later next week. I assume the government has become fairly efficient at getting these checks out
it's about party discipline and the obstructionist climate we're in. what's the point of even being a member of the party if you're going to publicly hem and haw about a position that no one is going to give a fuck about 6 months from now?
Because like sexuality, parties are only binary in the moment and in that situation. In most cases they involve a spectrum of opinions on different issues.
Rs basically only got tax cuts in 4 years. They at least have the excuse that everything they want to do is unpopular though, which makes it much harder for people with no spine to follow through
Id probably wait until you get the stimmy. But id also ask your accountant and not your friend from the internet
Feels like it’ll be hard to hold the House in 2022. Fetterman as a candidate is a nice start for progressives. Should be keeping an eye and praying for more strong progressives to enter races. The party will continue backing centrists but it feels like grassroots apps, phone banking, etc is making it possible for progressives to get more support from outside their states.
That requires each party to require that to belong, and each member to agree to it. This is why coalitions exist and why Independents can caucus with other parties.
how many independents or Other party members have there been in either chamber in the last 20 years? bernie sanders? ron paul?
Hello friends, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I am rich. What should I do about $1400?
I already filed (like an idiot) and believe I am fucked because I’d be ineligible under 2020 but not 2019. woo
There are two right now caucusing with Democrats, and focusing on this small aspect doesn't recognize the range of people representing the Democratic party. Again, issues do not have consistent binary support just because there are two parties. I shouldn't have to say this. You know it is obvious.
Yep. Didn’t mean for that to be misleading. Replacing toomey and adding fetterman (from the relatively little I know) would be awesome.
i'd rather just circle back to the original issue instead of parsing two sentence posts $15/hour is unpopular in arizona and in west virginia in particular? come out here and punch me in the head if this is true and the democrats in those states punted when down 10 with 5 minutes left in the 4th
