i feel like bbq was one of my favorite things to eat and try in diff southern cities as a youngin and now i just don't care. might be that i just never even end up getting bbq at the popular joints in bham. saw's bbq is awesome for instance but i find myself almost always getting the burger or one of their speciality chicken sandwiches
archibald’s in tuscaloosa is the platonic idea of bbq for me. an old ass pit in the middle of nowhere smoking meats and making a small selection of sides no bingo, or drink specials, or any frills really. just good ass food
Rodney Scott’s is a bit perplexing to me. I know Rodney is a master and everything generally tastes pretty good, but I consistently leave underwhelmed. I’m sure the amount of hype and expectations around him doesn’t help. But he has just been Pihakisafied and it irks me. And along with that, the prices are outrageous.
And by “sides” you mean white bread and Golden Flake potato chips. It’s the unquestioned best bbq in Alabama. The fact that it’s located on Watermelon Rd just adds to the greatness.
Truthfully, there aren't many places on earth that compare to Archibald's in an apples-to-apples way.
This will be controversial, but... Rudy's in TX on a normal day is better than most AL bbq places. And I hate chains.
Rudy’s is very consistent. I don’t eat it anymore because of how much Houston has improved on the bbq front, but when I did I was never disappointed.
For those voting in the democratic primary today, please vote for Chris Christie for circuit judge. His opponent is a legitimate crazy person. Hudson and Rand are former public defenders running for criminal seats, and will do a good job.
i like that she follows up “all alabamians” with “their conservative christian values” to make it clear who she is and isn’t interested in representing
the senate race is obviously a shitshow but, imo, the nightmare scenario that we hopefully avoid today is james/blanchard getting into a runoff with ivey
Ruth Robinson is the best option for the family court position, IMO. Despite having the worst campaign signs of all time (below), she's qualified for the job. I voted for Chig for governor and Will Boyd for senate, but those races won't matter. I also voted for Sheriff Pettway.
Vestavia peeps - Backyard Market, in the least surprising news ever - has gone under and I’m being told it’s being replaced by Saw’s. Big, if true.
sawsbby To all of our loyal fans, guests, and followers: Despite recent rumors, Saw's BBQ is not opening a Vestavia location at this time nor is it associated in any way with any restaurants that may be opening soon. As much as we love you and appreciate the buzz, the rumor simply isn't true. We look forward to continuing to serve you at nearby locations such as Homewood, Hoover, Crestline, Avondale, Leeds and Southside. As always, we appreciate your continued support and loyalty View 1 comment
just a total non sequitur here but falafel cafe is legit one of my five favorite restaurants in bham. tremendous. pls try it if you haven't
at the corner of the 19th and 4th south, like right up the street on 19th from that old milo's (rip). very unassuming spot but absolutely delicious
Rand is a good friend of mine, and legitimately one of the funniest people I've ever met. It's a shame he lost.
Waited in line to get into Shu Shop when they opened at 5. Party of 8. They told the family ahead of us they couldn’t eat because their kids were under 21. We ask for a table of 8 and were told they only do tables of 6. Ok, can we do 2 tables of 4? No, they don’t “split policies.” Owner got sassy when girl in our party was flabbergasted and asking if they were serious. They were, and we walked out of an empty restaurant because they wouldn’t seat us.
