what district do you live in? i'm in five and this is how i'm voting: -mayor: woodfin -council: o'quinn school board: millsap there's been a decent amount of woodfin discussion in this thread. overall consensus is that while far from a perfect candidate, bham could use a change and woodfin will be held more accountable than bell to the aspirations of the young contingent in the city.
I voted but only got to vote for mayor because I live in district 3. I went in there thinking I’d get to vote for the other run offs.
If you are in District 2, vote Williams for two reasons: 1. He’s a good candidate who legitimately cares about Birmingham and not lining his pockets. 2. He’s not the corrupt bitch who blocked Uber because he was aligned with the Taxi Lobby like his opponent.
Showed active on the website but I wasn't in their book so I had to do a provisional. Not a big deal.
THat would be the Jonathan Austin people... PLEASE O'QUINN...just went to his party at Crestwood Shoppes. Everyone nervous but happy.
Looks like Crestline Park has come in... District 2 (5 of 16 polling stations reporting) Kim Rafferty: 67 votes, or 48% Hunter Williams:71 votes, or 51% to District 2 (11 of 16 polling stations reporting) Kim Rafferty: 605 votes, or 21% Hunter Williams:2223 votes, or 78%
I contemplated printing his mugshot on a poster and attaching to the top of his larger campaign boards. POS had an $18,000 dollar cell phone bill for 2016 (amongst numerous other complaints)
Need to get Roberson and Abbott out next cycle...but I’ll enjoy this for what it is tonight, nice turn to an unbelievably shitty week so far.
I think Woodfin really benefitted from having Rafferty and Austin on the ballot and not the other council seats. Crestwood/Crestline Park was probably 80% Woodfin. The neighborhoods that typically elect Bell were less inclined to show up at the polls without district races to vote on
At least he was blowing tax payer money in the city limits...The Grand Bohemian is going to miss Austin getting blackout in Mountain Brook on the regular. Good Riddance to both of them.
Have any of you done Shu Shop yet? My girlfriend is obsessed with going there but I haven't heard good things.
i've been a couple times. thought it was meh. i really liked a couple of the small plates but the ramen was underwhelming.
I've really enjoyed it as well. I like that I can go at 12:45 am and get four delicious seared scallops for $9. Several other small plates are good and I think the ramen is better than icoro in the Pizitz
I will say that I finally had the ramen at bamboo and it did not disappoint. Still $16 (impossible to get a $10 ramen around here for some reason), but it's definitely the most generous bowl in town
I love Bamboo. I just have gotten in this rut lately about not trying new places. If we are going to drink, get apps and spend 100 bucks or more I would rather go to a place I know is good instead of venturing out. In this case it has meant doing Bamboo instead of Shu Shop.
i will say that shu shop is also a pretty fun place to go drink late night. lot of the parkside crowd (and crew, for that matter) ventures there now.
I agree, but it just shows how mediocre a campaign Bell ran if that's all he could get. I really don't think he's that bad of a mayor, but I do think he had a tendency to go for the big business deal and spend taxpayer money frivolously over behind-the-scenes work that would be truly transformative. As much as I'm glad Woodfin is in there, I think he's going to have a rough year or two thanks to inexperience. But holy crap, getting rid of Rafferty and Austin in the same election is a minor miracle.
i am confident that i am the tmb authority to speak on municipal administration, so i don't say this lightly. woodfin is woefully under-prepared to run birmingham. good luck to him, but this is potentially a huge step backward for the city. i hope he surrounds himself with knowledgeable folks so that his learning curve is minimized.
I get that, but doesn't it depend on the hires he makes? Also, I expect the council/mayor relationship to be much less standoffish, which has to help. Full disclosure: I have a friend who was a Bell appointee who thinks this will be a mess, too, and he's not a dummy.
so I went to buy tickets to a show at iron city and it said "none available". I clicked around a little bit more and then it said handicap tickets were available...would you buy a handicap ticket?
sure his hires will have big impacts, but he has no experience and little understanding of the depth of the role. he is also not very polished with the media.
Completely agree with the first sentence, but how is the bolded any different than Bell? He's a nice guy, but he has an extremely difficult time hiding the fact that he's an utter moron.
Have to be in town on the 27th and will need a good spot for a beer or 7 that evening. Which brewery has the best/most sours and do they serve food?
