We supposedly random screen but I have not been tested in 7 years??? I think my company secretly did away with random screening but doesn't want to tell the employees.

 

My guess is organizations do that so they can reserve the right to do so “randomly” if they think you’re getting high on the clock or if they just want to find an easy reason to get rid of you.

 

My running theory is that it's always been a way to get rid of bad employees.

It has to be extremely expensive and what exactly is the payoff? What if you catch good valuable employees?

 

My guess is it’s not actually random in most cases

I know a guy that gets randomly hair tested and he works in IT for a steel company

Like dude you don’t have to subject yourself to that.

This happened where I worked. A fill in supervisor found a pipe, and called the mill manager, trying to get brownie points. The next day, the entire shift got tested, along with a couple of mechanics. One of the mechanics's wives was going through chemo, and smoked weed for nausea. He took a couple of hits, pissed hot, and we lost a great mechanic, which means a lot in a paper mill.

 

Got nervous during the game and thought I was my own buzzkill. Took another and then realized that I was quite wrong about the first part.
