Wild hair day
Sorry didn’t check the date on the post.
All of the hair balls.
I’ve always been surprised by how many short hairs are in this thread because I’ve only had two long hairs my entire life.
Pussy stays undefeated
My favorite thing to do lately is move something in the apartment to a new spot then watch Ramona lose her shit.
Love the face. It says "pet me"
I had to say goodbye to my buddy tonight, way too young at six. He was the only cat I’ve had that preferred me over anyone else. He had a still-unknown chronic lung issue for the last six months and spent time in and out of the local ER. We spent an embarrassing amount of money including me driving him to K-State twice to see the head of internal medicine at the vet med for testing. Ultimately it was not enough.
sorry man, lost our first as a couple at 6 as well, just awful
So sorry to hear man. Sounds like he was very lucky to have found you and you did everything you could for him
Sorry for loss
Sorry, man. That's rough
My >17 year old cat (see the last post from page 1, back when she was 4 pounds heftier), who can barely run or jump or do other cat things, just chased down, trapped, and killed a mouse that was trying to eat her food and ran behind a radiator. It was like some National Geographic wild kingdom type shit. I had to quickly cover it with a broom and dispose of it so she wouldn't eat it.
Also, yes, I have mice in my house, since at least last week. Meeces to pieces.
There’s nothing embarrassing about spending money on not only something you love, but something that is an integral part of your life. We’ve spent exorbitant amounts of money on one of our cats, and I’d do it 3x over if I had to. So sorry for your loss, but take solace in the fact that you gave him the best 6 years he could ever ask for.
Our Maine Coon he is a rescue so I’m not sure how old he is. We’ve had him 8 years and he was 1-2 when we got him. I’m more of a dog person but I love this cat.
I’m going to get absolutely lambasted for this, but I’m trying to be transparent with the struggle.
We are putting my house pissing cat down on Saturday morning. It’s a terrible decision to make, but there was nothing left for us/her. We’ve tried to place her for a few months. Nobody wants a 13 year old cat that doesn’t use a litter box. Her peeing has really held us hostage for the last few months and it’s turned untenable. She’s been peeing all over our furniture, mattresses, clothes, etc. I have no couches left. I’m laying on the ground watching tv right now.
I’m sorry for the cat lovers itt. I really didn’t want to do it, but she got 7-10 extra years thanks to me. I fully expect to get told to fuck off. I’m losing a pet too.
My family was gone from the house Saturday-Wednesday. We got home to her peeing in/on:
- 3 vents/ducts on the ground which is normal
- 2 sets of curtains
- the kitchen island
- a kitchen counter that dripped into drawers
- the remaining loveseat in the house
- the hallway closet
- a pillow left on the ground
- the fireplace hearth
oof. shitty situation all around man.
I don't really blame you. That's a nightmare
It’s awful all around.
She has been using puppy pads for the last 5 years which sucks but is fine to deal with. She started to stray from them about a year ago and just started peeing everywhere. I’m going to have to get patches of hardwoods replaced, carpet replaced, ducts cleaned/replaced, furniture replaced, etc. It’s like $20k in damages so far.
She’s a great cat, but I can’t afford it and my family can’t deal with the issue anymore. We decided the most humane way to end everything was by just having her put down. She got 13 years and I’m convinced that’s way more than 99.99% of other situations if I weren’t involved. (At least that what I’m telling myself as I actively decide to kill a family pet.)
Last cat pissing post…
She walked into the master shower about an hour ago, stared at me, and peed in the corner. She just walked into my office and used the litter box.
lol a good ole fashion power move
We compromised with the vet to put the cat on antidepressants and anxiety meds for 3 months. Apparently there are topical applications for these medicines now which will make it easier for everyone. If she doesn’t improve in 2-3 months then the vet said it would be ethically understandable to put her down.
Even though it’s going to be expensive, I hope the meds work and we can get a few years of a non house pissing cat.
Good luck. Hoping they work and applaud you for trying to do whatever it takes
This is going to cost me my marriage and family (not really). The vet wouldn’t put the cat down at this point. My wife is furious because we live in a crackhouse with no rugs, furniture, etc and she wants to move on (regardless of how hard the decision has been). She thinks the vet is being unreasonable. I’m fine with the compromise.
Did they rule out cancer or any other severe disease? I know my parents had a cat that started this behavior and they found a big mass in his stomach when they were considering putting him down for the same reason as you.
She’s been doing this for 10+ years. It’s behavioral.
Jesus, I missed the part where you said she was doing it basically her entire life. That really sucks though, I wouldn't blame you for reaching a breaking point.
Per the bengal cats, watching ice melt is actually quite entertaining.
She’s back (for now). Let’s hope $100/month in SSRIs and benzos does the trick.
Sorry to hear about the pissing cat. Had 1 of those but not as bad as yours. Makes life miserable. Our household will be pet free once our dog and cat pass on. Need the kids to grow up a bit before we add another being.
First dose of kitty Prozac and Xanax in the ears
Wtf am I doing with my life
Edit: Aaaaaand she is high as a kite
Hope it helps…
Our hospital cat died in front of me yesterday. Dude was here longer than some of the older employees. He just fell off the table stiff as a board, massive heart attack. It was quick. A really chill and special cat, it was not easy to witness.
That’s awful. Sorry to hear man. Can’t imagine witnessing that
I am also on a pissing cat fix and mine is on amatriptilyne. Seems to be working really well so far. We are in the $10k-20k range of damage so far.
Ooooh. May be rejoining thread soon. Have a bead on a red Abyssinian kitten. Hopefully end of the month.
That’s good to know. Mine got Prozac and a month of benzos that we wipe on her inner ear. I’d like for it to work because deciding to put the cat down last weekend was almost as difficult as my dad dying the weekend before.
After a week of medicine, the house pissing cat has only peed outside of the litter box (inside) once. Hopefully that trend continues.
She’s been spending a lot of time outside. I think she was out on and off from 9am-9pm yesterday. That’s good because she loves it outside…but now she has fleas. We haven’t given flea medicine for years because there’s been no need and vet checkups never include worms.
I’ll take it all things considered.
You should be able to get frontline or revolution at a pet store
We’ve got some revolution, capstar, and comfortis leftover from a few years back. We’ll go through that stuff as needed first.
the cat depression pills are still working magic for my cat too.
You’re brave af for pilling a cat everyday
I guess you could be crushing it up in food too
we got autopsy results back and it turned out he had an aggressive lung cancer. sad, but we did everything we could, and we know we made the right decision.
