When the starters are awful I'd rather they just be healthy than be at risk of being a victim of a surprise young guy who's a gamer coming off the bench honestly
How is it possible that a DC can be as bad as Pete? You wouldn't think that his bufoonery tentacles reached every aspect of the defense. Could it be that there is more afoot to the improvement other than changing from Pete? Or was he that bad? Did he just sit around crushing millers and taking bumps all day, scribbling on a white board , without doing any actual coaching or fundamentals? More importantly, how did he pull that off right under Saban's nose?
I do think that everybody got all concerned about this,” Saban said Wednesday. “There were two balls in the game – one he could have caught, probably been a tough catch, and the last one that went to the one-yard line, which was significant, he really misjudged the ball. These guys that are rugby punters, the ball doesn’t travel exactly like a normal punt, so this ball flew on him a little bit. “You can see on the film when you watch it that the ball was going to go over his head and he was going to have to catch it outside his body and make a tough catch, and rather than take a chance on doing that, he let the ball go and unfortunately for us, it rolled to the one-yard line. “So I got a lot of confidence in him. I think he has confidence in doing it. I don’t think he has an issue. He wants to be back there. He wants to be aggressive. He wants to do what he has to do to be able to return punts. And we have total confidence in him.”
He was incredible at it last year, but we're at a stretch from here where we can't afford someone with the yips trying to break habit and get back to form. If Bond can field it, or Law, or whoever, put them back there.
Here's a good write up on Vaughn and the baseball team's exhibition games with AU. Head over to the Baseball thread where FadeMe posted it. https://www.the-mainboard.com/index...baseball-thread.179181/page-360#post-19357765

This one is gonna come down to the wire. I just can’t imagine that playing with Sherrill wouldn’t play a bigger factor. Sure the money is great right now, but Oats has a better track record for putting guys in the pros so the potential money in the future looks way better at Alabama than Georgia
There was some discussion in here in the last few days about needing to hit the portal harder IIRC. This year we have major contributors from the portal in Key, Amos, Dippre, and Marshall. Am I forgetting anyone else? Those are critically important players at 2 DB positions. Key is a starter and Amos is a starter in dime and comes off the bench in critical situations and is an important reserve if someone goes down. Marshall has played a ton this year and is a key piece. And Dippre has been a solid blocking TE and is a weapon in the passing game even if he doesn't get a lot of targets. I'm not sure you're going to get a whole lot more than that out of the portal. How many critical pieces do you think you'll get per year from the portal? If that's 4 what are you looking for? 6-10? I think they shored up some very important spots with portal pickups this season.
Please go find us an explosive WR to take the top off the defense. Jamo type burner. A lockdown corner would be nice too.
How about Trae though . I watch the Hawks, and really want to like them more than I do, but he makes it so hard.
I think we are GREAT at getting guys at the portal and it's probably something that is nearly underrated. Almost every guy we have gotten in the portal has been a solid contributor and obviously we have had several home runs. I only think we should expect to be adding more in the portal because this specific recruiting class seems to be a down year.
Bond is running wide open on a ton of plays and has some long TDs. He's a burner with elite speed. I'm fine with adding more though.
You'd think with how we've recruited at OL we wouldn't need another tackle. Proctor should continue to get better. Losing our RT to the NFL could be problematic. You'd hope Pritchett or one of the other guys could step in. Definitely wouldn't hurt to get a tackle though.
With Turner and Braswell both probably being gone, Id be interested in us looking for a proven edge guy to come in and help bridge that gap
Feel like switching OL assistants is the easiest solution here. Wolford is a highly sought after guy he can go find another job at a solid program. Whatever is going on whether it's with Rees or Saban or what but he's not clicking here. I always say we should add 1-2 OL a year now with starting P5 experience. Steen is a perfect example.
Yeah definitely Bond fits the bill but I want more. Those WR corps with tua were elite because of all the speed they put on the field. Ruggs, Waddle and Smith all can fucking move. Hell Jeudy can too.
Don't think anyone is going to argue we shouldn't be adding first round WRs if they are available. We are going to be talking about the Rydeouts for the rest of our lives.
I'd treat it like the NFL draft. If you can get an elite QB go for it. Same with OT, interior DL, elite skill guys. And obviously fill positions of need.
Think we should be extremely aggressive in the portal this off-season. With the right adds to shore up a few spots with just consistently solid play, next year's team could be great. Especially if we continue the slow march back to being a mentally tough, physically tough team that I think we've shown solid signs of so far this year.
