LSU head coach Brian Kelly began this week’s press conference with an injury update, specifically with two season-long starters in cornerback Zy Alexander and defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo. Both players are expected to “miss some time” according to Kelly. When asked if that includes the Alabama game he said they’ll have to evaluate that next week. Neither one is practicing at this point. Alexander left the game against Army on the play before halftime, going down after an interception and needing significant help to get off the field with a lower body injury. He did not return to the field in the second half and after the game, Kelly said they would need to be examined before having more information. Kelly also said that Duce Chestnut and Denver Harris are still on scholarship, but neither is going through practice at this point. LSU is in the midst of its only bye week of the season, but its game against Alabama comes on Nov. 4, and without Alexander, the options at cornerback are thin. Without JK Johnson, Chestnut, Harris, and Alexander, the Tigers enter next week’s game with Ashton Stamps recovering from an injury, then a healthy Laterrance Welch and Jeremiah Hughes to round out the room opposite of Sage Ryan. Ryan started across from Alexander in recent games and were the two that Matt House seemingly trusted the most entering the back half of the season. Now, the defensive staff will once again look for answers at defensive back. Mekhi Wingo Wingo missed the Army game dealing with a lower body injury, but the potential for him to miss the Alabama game is something that was not expected coming into the bye week. Without Wingo, Jordan Jefferson and Jacobian Guillory have been tasked with stepping up and will once again need to have strong outings against Alabama. Starter Maason Smith has also improved as the season wears on and gives the Tigers a chance to disrupt the Tide’s offense. Wingo has been one of the top defensive linemen in the SEC this year and a consistent presence for LSU since arriving on campus prior to the 2022 season. Now, LSU will rely on its depth to patch the holes up front entering the final three SEC games.
Rewatching the second half today and Milroe really did a lot of damage with his legs. Really feels like hes due for a big day on the ground against LSU.
A lot of that was QB power and QB keeps on those zone read handoffs. He never keeps it so he caught the defense off-guard a few times and got nice gains. He had a nice scramble on third and long.
Yes generally we are a very well coached defense. Even in the first half when the fat bitch was gashing us they still buckled down and held them to field goals.
LSU's defense sucked ass with their starters. Maybe they should consider having to play backups a blessing.
Below is a list of commitments in the '24 class who currently expect to enroll early. We will update if anything changes. Several will also arrive prior to bowl practice. Okoronkwo has confirmed he will arrive in mid-December. QB: Julian Sayin TE: Caleb Odom OL: Casey Poe, William Sanders, Joseph Ionta DL: Jeremiah Beaman, Isaia Faga LB: Justin Okoronkwo, Sterling Dixon, Cayden Jones DB: Jaylen Mbakwe, Peyton Woodyard, Zabien Brown, Jameer Grimsley, Red Morgan, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. Who will not enroll early: WR: Amari Jefferson, Rico Scott TE: Jay Lindsey -We will also confirm enrollment plans for remaining targets.
If they ranked them based on Bama Bangs, Jay Lindsey would be a 99 or a 100. Also, there's a bunch of coach on the field, brings the lunch pail, blue collar guys in that group.
I think we really need to change the way we look at recruiting. Gotta save room for the portal… now if we get through that and the class still sucks. Then yea we in trouble
It would be a little funny if Saban just became a portal god and added a bunch of starters this offseason. We don’t raid the portal every year but man every guy we get seems to make an impact. I have always thought we should just go grab a couple big 10 starting offensive lineman every year.
I think he’s been a little slower to jump on this one, but Saban has never been afraid to exploit a new trend. Even if he doesn’t like it
We have done a lot of that. We have former backups starting all over the country. Having 3 playable inside linebackers is such a luxury this year.
OL, DL and LB classes are all disappointing. QB: elite TE: great DB: good WR: just ok RB: Daniel Hill would be ok, but we took two top backs last class
Good for JC. the more I watch the more I think Proctor is just a massive black hole for the OL. Roberts has been better than Dalcourt and Booker is solid. Seth's snaps also cause a ton of issues in the run game.
From what I’ve seen and read, Proctor really has no clue on when to slide inside vs fan outside. This confusion has directly caused sacks in the past 3 games. Certainly something you’d imagine is being heavily worked on during the bye, though I’m not sure how much that matters at this point.
This should be the approach tbh. Not that you can pass up a HS kid to go sign 10 Jamo's every year because those don't exist, but you can skip on some of these guys you know are unlikely to ever contribute meaningfully just trying to fill spots to get a few Amos' where you know what you're getting at this level. This is the first time since '18 that I just see a bunch of future year 1-3 transfers at the bottom half of our class. The top half I actually like a lot though.
One of the most pleasant parts of this season is rarely seeing our ILB misread a run fit. It felt like that used to happen 1-2 times a drive. It almost never happens now.
If we don’t turn the ball over we win by two touchdowns. We may drop 50 on them and they haven’t played a defense yet. Best defense they’ve faced is Arkansas who 37th in total defense and then there’s the fact that we are at home and this is a revenge game for saban. We’re covering that line easily. Bet the house DISCLAIMER: please don’t not follow my betting advice as i’m currently homeless after losing all my money on the lsu game last year
I’m going to go ahead and predict a personal foul in this game on either Burton or the player covering Burton. Or both.
