roster wise-where does this team stack up among the Saban era. You have 2 all timers leading offense and defense. RB is super stacked. WR isn’t near what we had a few years back. OL is a question mark. If OL and WR step up , this roster could be up there in terms of among the best of Saban era.
Lmao Gump interrupting all that with some random sporadic bama thoughts gives me so much life. Never change
I’m really worried about the O-Line. It was the worst it’s ever been last year and we lost a top 10 draft pick from it. Luckily Bryce is the greatest of all time at taking contact but my word I’d hate to see him have to use that skill more than he did last year
Shit cuz I say that shit now but I’ll be the one in here chin checking y’all during the game for talking sideways about Dalcourt
I’m just not that concerned about offensive line. There is just too much talent there and we now have an elite SEC OL coach. Plus BOB is getting another year. I really think the unit will be a strength by mid season.
When Wolford arrived, he was amazed at how far our Oline was behind, even at the basic fundamental things. Marrone must not have done shit.
It really does give me hope that Marrone is gone. It’s kinda ridiculous how poorly our o-line performed under him. It was the single issue at the end of the season that made me pause about our chances to win a ship
Apparently it was really bad, and I don’t know if that’s typical NFL coach stuff or what, but the conversation reminded me of hearing stories about Avery Johnson basketball practice.
I can't remember Saban singling out a former coach indirectly when basically talking about coaching upgrades more than Marrone this offseason. When asked about the OL he will typically say he's excited about the new coaches along the OL and the development. That speaks volumes about Marrone.
I mean I don't know if it was the best idea to put some of our weaker OL on an island and basically do nothing to help them when they were getting abused over and over. It was Chris Capps 2005 Iron Bowl level in a few games last year. Hopefully the new coach won't let that happen.
Edited: Agree with Gump This team has two stars (Bryce + Bill) and a few players that have star potential (Gibbs, Turner, Too,Too, McKinstry, Brooks, Cohen, Latham, Branch) and a deep bench of above average players (Ekiyor, Burton, Harrell, the entire D-line, center position, RB depth, WR depth, safety position)
If there's anything we know about offensive line is that it's one position that experience and offseason training will improve their play significantly. We have a lot of experience overall on the OL and with a real coach I think they will flourish If you look back at our best units over the past ten years, we were almost always bringing back 3/5 starters. LT-This is Steen's job. He started in the SEC for 3 years and apparently held his own. He will not be like Evan Neal but I think his floor is very high. LG-Cohen is an NFL guard. He was awesome last year and has a real "fuck you" attitude. He is going to be one of our better offensive players this year. C-Whether it's Dalcourt or Seth Mac, we have two experienced and capable centers. Seth Mac made Jordan Davis look like a bitch in the SEC Championship and people don't forget that. RG-Ekioyor was not an issue at all last year and a year of offseason training for him and the centers will work wonders. RT-By far the biggest question mark but we have several options. Latham and Brockermeyer were both supposed to be day 1 impact guys. I have more hope in Latham because he's not a rich white kid. He also looked good at guard last year when he finally did play. I refuse to believe he would have been worse than Owens or George last year. My guess is he was probably a little green with the playbook and Marrone being a hard nosed NFL asshole didn't want to put a freshman in. Conclusion is the offensive line is going to be fine. Experience matters a lot and these guys have it. Hopefully they will play with a chip on their shoulder after getting so much criticism from last year.
Ahh I misread that, apologies RJF-GUMP Good to see your severed penile function hasn't affected your reading comprehension user Snakes
no but i had a close call last week. head over to the vasectomy thread for a horror story if you can stomach it.
I meant we have an all time on offense and an all timer on defense. Offense: Heisman winner best QB in CFB returns. Gibbs is maybe the best RB in football. Super deep bench behind Gibbs at RB. Impact transfers at WR, impact true frosh, and depth at WR full of 5 stars with Brooks, etc. I do agree WR needs to step up but the talent and depth is there. OL has talent just needs to develop. Defense: Best edge rush /pass rush tandem in CFB with Wild Bill and Dallas Turner. Experience and depth at interior DL. Interior DL lacks explosiveness but they could step up. Depth at linebacker. Depth and talent throughout the secondary + impact transfer in Ricks. There isn't a more talented roster in CFB. We need OL, WR, and secondary to develop. If those things happen , when you have Bryce Young and Wild Bill as the leaders of this team, you have potentially an all timer squad. * Leadership-Wild Bill will punch you in the face if you are being a bitch. I'm liking what I'm hearing about leadership. I think we got a bunch of cancers off the roster too. This is a HUGELY underrated part of what makes a championship team.
Our ability to get pressure by only bringing 4 from cause Bill and Turner are awesome is going to let Saban get real weird in the secondary and it’s going to be awesome.
Have we gotten any intel on whether Ricks is a team player with a good attitude? Didn't Saban say something along the lines of he still needs to improve ?
Hey, I think spreading these rumors is very irresponsible. I'm reporting this post to the appropriate authorities.
