It’s the damndest thing. We entered Norman top 10 in both offensive & defensive scoring after playing a really tough schedule. We are not as bad as what we saw last Saturday. However, we are susceptible to matchup problems. We didn’t have too many of those under Saban.
I told somebody that last night, and they said yeah but what about head to head? And I said well watching the lsu/scar game, everyone knows scar should have 1 less loss.
Whatever happens happens. We certainly dont have an argument that we deserve to be there, but if we somehow make it, cool deal I guess
If we blow Auburn out I won’t try to police the thread ( Snakes ) wrt to discussing playoff scenarios but if anyone goes outside the thread and starts arguing that we deserve to be in the playoff they’re getting pistol whipped.
We don’t deserve it by any stretch, but watching the collective melt of us back dooring our way in would be gold
I mean he has regressed somewhat, he was never going to be a polished pocket qb, but even the things he was good at like the deep ball, aren’t there anymore.
With that said, I also don’t buy the rumors that his dad and or agent has told him that’s he gotta stand in there try to make the throws in order to have better tape for the NFL
I’m so excited to get Milroe the fuck out of there. Saban benching him for the USF game last year said it all. The dude is an all about me weak ass QB.
I’m watching Haynes King do things that Milroe can’t and it makes me sad. That pass against the blitz is an auto-sack.
Would not shock me if Mack makes a push for it. Ty seemed like all he wants to do is coach and Russell is a long shot.
The OL has been as bad as Jalen tbh. If we're talking next year, I'm as worried about that as I am the QB. Not trying to take away from Jalen, he was bad vs OU even when they did block, but between the OL and OC, not sure Brady would have found much success last week. That was a total team effort in suck.
I’ve never been an advocate for relying on a true freshman QB, but I’m coming around to it with Keelon. Especially with the playoff. If he shows you enough in Spring/Fall that it’s a legitimate option, just go for it. Take some lumps and hopefully he’s peaking at season-end. It’s not unprecedented, we did it with Hurts.
Nick Saban going 17 years and basically never having a game like this is by far and away his biggest accomplishment imo
I watched that last TD and the play before thinking immediately "Milroe would've scrambled, gotten tackled and the clock expire before we get a kick off".
But yea this is the weirdest season I can remember in like 2 decades for the SEC. Wonder if this is just pure anomaly or what we're in for moving forward with portal + NIL in a post-Saban landscape. I tend to think it's more the norm
the new running clock rules have also eliminated a couple of extra possessions per game which increases variance bigly
Got no doubt Saban is enjoying his retirement but I wonder if a part of him looks at all these mediocre teams and knows he could have coached up this team to a national title.
The rules implemented were inevitable, but you're kidding yourself if a lot of it wasn't in direct response to our dominance. A lot of apathy before we became the evil empire.
Again, not trying to take anything off Jalen, but some of his bad plays were bc the OL didn't block anyone so he had to get off schedule. Playcalling was atrocious as well, especially in the 1h. Again, Jalen was bad, but lumping it all on him is really giving a pass to everyone else that was bad too. It's not as simple as just "Jalen was bad", that was everyone was bad.
It’s kind of chicken and egg. OL blocking was bad because our playcalling was predictable. It was predictable because Jalen is who he is and when we got nothing on 1st down because they keyed Jalen and he made poor decisions. His poor decisions made OL blocking look worse than it was.
Watching Jalen avoid the wide open, decently blocked turn upfield to bounce it out and get tackled at the line of scrimmage has scarred my soul.
This x10000. Less talented teams who are capable of running the ball can just do the classic NCAA/Madden online cheese of chewing clock now and shortening the game which turns it into a coin flip. I guess its good from an entertainment value standpoint but it sucks for the sport
Go to 1:28:25 and tell me how that's how Jalen. We have 7 to block 3! 7 on 3! 3 guys block 1, 2 guys block another, 1 guy blocks nobody, and RB is left on a DE and he gets blown up. There's examples like this all game. The OL assignments make no sense. How on earth is our LT sliding to throw DT on the other side of the center?
