I just hope this does in fact get resolved quickly. Wanting to leave a big club with a few prime years left and remaining a legend is never easy but he’s balanced that out so far.
I have no illusions about the fact that we will probably always be a club in chaos but the idea of Lampard and Cech leading us into the scary post-Hazard era makes me smile.
Gotta show some love to Cahill too. I have talked my fair share of shit on him in the past, but he has been a great servant to the club. Crazy we only bought him for 7m from Bolton.
How he and Courtois went about it are such polar opposites. If you’re going to fault him you’re just a shitbag. Plus we’re going to make a goddamn killing.
We’re really gonna have a problem with that quote after murdering Arsenal in a European cup final? At best it’s kind of thoughtful that he cares about what his old fans think of him, at worst it’s the same weird shit that you’d expect out of the guy that chews butts in the dugout.
He just can't get out of his own way. This is like some dude that had gone through a rough patch with his wife turning around and saying to her "I wonder what my ex girlfriend is up to?".
And he won the Europa League, finished 3rd, got to the league cup final, and gave more minutes to the kids than any of the previous managers. I'm not sure he's the right guy in the long run and I'll be excited if Frank comes back but how a large chunk of the fans and media have treated him is crap. Rafa called out Chelsea supporters on multiple occasions when he was at Pool and he was more accepted by the end of his run (with essentially the same accomplishments and a much higher level of talent). Double standard is bizarre.
Agree but it kinda feels inevitable at this point. The problem is if it doesn't work....then what. Fire a club legend? Pete gonna shit can one of his best friends? Sarri should get AT LEAST another year and has said he's fine with working under the ban and with youth (at least before the Juve rumors). Let Frank join his staff or stay on at Derby (though they might be in trouble with all of the loan players and money they've spent).
After the RDM breakup it has felt like the decision makers at the club and the supporters have been at odds. Shit can Frank? All out riot on our hands. We shouldnt set up Frank to fail and right now thats exactly what we would do if we lose Sarri and hire Frank.
I would assume they'd give Frank a looooooooong rope, particularly with the ban, however, what if 2015 happens again and Chelsea are 5 pts above the relegation zone on Halloween...what then? All this bitching and drama aside, I'd hate to lose sight of the fact that Arsenal just got drilled 4-1 in a game they HAD to win. People forget that.
Best part about it is that we were without 2 potential starters, and played with one at maybe 60%. And I wont lie, I didnt see us winning today but glad to have been proven wrong.
Wont be another like him. To think at one time fans thought he was a "rat" because year 2 of Jose happened like clockwork
Giroud Hazard will always be right there with Zola and Drogba as my all time favorites. He could score 5 against us in a Madrid shirt next year and I’d applaud him.
I had the same reaction at first. After watching this video though from the day before the game I changed my mind.
Hopefully this is true. Emerson wants to stay and we can bring back dasilva or aina from loan to provide cover. Got to get Alonso off the books before he continues to play poorly and becomes the next drinkwater.
I'm trying to avoid having the same discussion we've had but we can't afford to sell him now. Praying Aina turns down Torino (to come here as a rotational guy doesn't make much sense unless we're grossly overpaying him) and hoping Dasilva is PL ready isn't a great strategy even if Alonso has some warts.
Dasilva is a bit undersized but I rate him more than I do Alonso right now. Alonso can score the odd goal but he’s horrible defensively, not athletic enough to make overlapping runs and recover if we lose possession and he’s the worst crossing fullback in England. We also pay him £100k a week. If we don’t sell now and he has another bad year, we will likely be on the hook for him for the remaining 3 years. I’m ok risking our backup LB spot on dasilva for 1 season. Sell Alonso for £25m or keep him and risk getting stuck with £25m in wages. I’ll take the money now and risk a youth player. Even if it means overpaying aina and then selling him after next season.
I'm all in on Emerson and a kid backing up there. Alonso's lackadaisical approach to defense leaves a lot to be desired
Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I have a feeling that Juve make a run at Pochettino like they did pep. If he says no they go after sarri and pay us the buyout of his contract.
Do the club sign Frank right away or let Blanc/Allegri get a run with Frank waiting in the wings? Man, this feels like an immense fuck up due to some childish fans/media...whatever, chaos gonna chaos.
This is so stupid. That second half was Sarriball at our best and I’m sad we won’t get a chance to see it with a full offseason and a full squad of his choosing.
If sarri is gone because we have a transfer ban and he has the opportunity to go to a more established club with a better direction I get it but we certainly didn’t seem to put up a fight. If we replace him with Allegri or blanc it’s a massive fuck up. I don’t rate either of them. If they bring back frank and Jody morris to steward through the transfer ban, give them a long leash and actually attempt to build toward the long term knowing we will give him a year to assess the squad and spend big summer 2020 I can get on board. Allegri/blanc will be so underwhelming and incredibly disappointing.
Long leash We might as well have Guus under contract again already, he'll be the caretaker manager within a year.
