LoL at no government links…WTF is wrong with some of you wanting this shit. Ethics issues aside (and obviously, those are immense), assuming the club survives this sale, I’d rather not be in the same position in a decade when the Saudis behead some important white person or attack a European country that gets the club back on a sanctions list. No one wants to be owned by a Glazer, Gillette/Hicks, Rickets, or Woody Johnson but there are other, safer options out here.
As there’s a distinct possibility the club doesn’t survive this, then yes. That said, not sure what that has to do with not wanting Saudi ownership.
My point is oligarch money won Chelsea 2 UCLs and multiple premier leagues and now everyone who supported the team through that era is somehow worried about the ethics of the ownership group. Especially funny when it's people who have no natural attachment to Chelsea (myself included).
Honestly I dont care. If we stay the same or drop down to mid table. Still will follow just the same. Maybe the club will do better at scouting for need so we wont have as many flops going forward.
Maybe I'm dumb, but if our oligarch owner being entangled in geopolitics is what got us to this point in the first place, then I don't see being bought by a "media group" that operates in a country that doesn't allow independent media or journalism as some shining beacon of hope. It's a state sponsored media company that has had multiple Saudi royal family members serve on its board of directors. Anyone who believes "no government ties" is deluding themselves. Not to mention Saudi Arabia is responsible for some outrageously heinous shit. If Russia is getting rightfully shit on for their indiscriminate air raids on civilian targets, then what the hell are we supposed to think about what Saudi Arabia has done to Yemen? I'd rather we get some boring miserly owner that runs us like a fucking Taco Bell franchise than deal with the Saudis.
What an absolute disaster this is becoming. Government won’t let the club sell tickets for the FA cup, club responds with a ridiculous statement saying the game should be behind closed doors, UK government then releases this statement. Club needs to stfu and let the supporters groups make statements surrounding ticketing issues. I don’t trust Boris Johnson or the Torys at all (particularly how some significant Russian donors haven’t faced sanctions during this) but the club are completely beholden to them for survival right now and need to smarten up before this gets worse and scuttles a sale.
truly bizarre move by Chelsea to come out with this. For a big club like Chelsea to try and deny a championship club ticket revenue and their fans access to a massive game for them is just an awful move. I highly doubt this will be approved so it just makes Chelsea look awful and out of touch with nothing to gain.
you could so easily create a separate account where all ticket sales flow to that is completely locked from withdrawals that will go to the new owner without restrictions once the sale goes through. UK government just pushed through the sanctions without having any idea how to practically apply them. still beyond idiotic by Chelsea to take this approach. Just makes them look even worse. Chelsea just aren’t in a position to make public threats and play hardball right now.
Dumber shit has happened so I could be off, but I don't see any chance in hell that the UK let's the Saudi deal go through given what's currently going on. Not going to spend any time worrying about that. My #1 choice has and remains the Wyss/Boehly group
Club needs to stop making stupid demands. Government doesnt need to punish the club for the fucking war in ukraine though. Setup a trust, allow fans to buy tickets etc and just complete the damn sell.
If this is true, what is the government thinking? This is what Chelsea should have said publicly. “We have offered the government to give tickets we cannot sell away for free to fans, many of whom are in struggling financial conditions but the premier league will not allow us to give them away for free.” how easy it would be to look like the good guy instead of the bad guy. I’ll never understand how well paid PR folks fuck up this badly.
This group would certainly have the cash to make a bid work but I’m not confident that they would be as committed to success as the other American group. Definitely better than fucking woody Johnson though

That is a stat. Sorry, appears to be lies. I fact checked and I don’t think that’s correct. I think he’s still 2 behind him but in 15 less games
Tuchel seems like the perfect manager to have in this type of “us against the world” situation. Doubt we have any chance in EPL but the next round of UCL should be fun.
Really want Villarreal or Benfica. Feel like we ran the gauntlet last year and deserve a reprieve. Ha
basically the same position as last season but we are in a better position in the league as far as top 4. Hopefully we can catch fire in the champions league again or at least do the same in the FA cup.
Sounds like the Boehly group and the Ricketts group are the two main contenders, with the Boehly group the more outwardly attractive option for fans.
