Yes but also a midfield doesn’t fix that goal we just gave up. We’ve defended really well all day and then give up that bullshit.

Team is just broken. Two best players are hurt and hurt constantly. Horrid window buying shitty and/or washed players while not addressing the midfield (which would allow the team to possess the ball more efficiently and get more progressions up the field and into the box). Europa is the ceiling here.
Pretty much sums it up, huge amount of money spent in the last 2-3 years, basically no core players to come from it.
Chelsea’s best buy over the last five years has been…Silva on a free? Chilwell who has missed 1/2 his time here? Our current back up keeper? Academy products have almost certainly been the three best players this season (even if Mount is having a down year). Truly a pathetic ROI.
I mean part of it is sour grapes that we're losing but not moving on in this competition probably is the best thing long-term.
Obviously Nkunku isn't a strictly this-season play, but I wonder how he slots in. I'd love to see Mount and maybe even Havertz be able to drop back more of a CAM/offensive distributor position.

Graham Potter is managing Chelsea like he is actively trying to tank the team. This is crazy to watch. There's no consistent game plan, and he plays dudes put of position all over the place. Good luck.
I think most folks would point to the midfield. Jorginho is good at what he does but is a pretty narrow specialist. Similarly, Kante is world class as a destroyer but his game is basically limited to disruption, requiring a lot of discipline from his midfield partner, and limiting attacking options through the middle. Kovacic is the most well-rounded and can carry the ball forward, but he can't seem to put together a whole campaign healthy, and he has no shooting. There's no depth and no balance. Open to being corrected on that front.
This is consistent with my take. The other thing that you haven't explicitly stated is that Jorginho and Kante are getting on in age and we need to have some semblance of a go-forward plan. For a club that loves to spend, it seems like the midfield is an area we've not invested heavily enough in (or struck out in signing). Mount is a great player but we need to find the next Kante (or 80% of healthy Kante) and prioritize that in the next cycle.
Speaking of midfield... I just assume that every young talent we sign is a potential superstar, so needless to say I love this move.
