He doesnt seem to be a locker room cancer, however he maybe a little high maintenance. Biggest problem he has is a higher opinion of his worth than anyone else does. He thinks he's better than he is and expects Trent Williams type money. The Chiefs disagreed and decided to move on. It was the same conclusion the Ravens came to about Brown as well. The Chiefs will have to start paying Humphrey & Smith soon so it made the decision pretty easy.
Agreed, he's not worth a splashy max contact. His #s would look much worse without Mahomes @ the wheel.
Why are they drafting a G? A Center I could see and a OT for sure. But you have Jenkins and Davis locked up at G. I think taking John Michael Schmitz in the 2nd round would be perfect. He's probably a C long term in the NFL. He can play G so he fits that swing role or he can just beat out Patrick and he can be your swing OIL. Draft a OT or sign one of the big boys left on the market and Borom is the swing OT. OL is set.
because you need more than 2 guards on your roster and nothing tevin Jenkins has done in his career leads one to believe he’ll start 17 games next season I do want JMS in the second round though. Not sure he lasts until pick 54 or whatever that first pick is
He wants to set the market for OT and teams don't view him in the same light. It has nothing to do with locker room. Guy want's a massive payday. He was shipped out of Baltimore because of it and KC moved on because of it.
I think you can pick up a ton of vets to fill backup roles and depth pieces for a roster. I would rather spend draft capital on guys you feel can step in and start or high a high ceiling you can develop. Were not at a stage to draft for depth. Either way I love the way Poles has handled this offseason and most of his moves since taking over. He's front loaded a ton of these deals so when it's time to pay Justin we should have some flexibility to pay guys around the team we have developed or bring in some talent.
Looks like QB, WR, LB, and secondary are pretty much set. Add a piece or 2 at Oline and it’s set, DL still needs a ton of work. Would like to draft more for BPA instead of having to reach for needs all draft.
Was on his way out of the league until he notched seven sacks for the Titans last year. Hopefully it's the beginning of a career resurgence.
Its a very deep class for DL this year. You will get some good value in R2 and R3. With that said I would like to bring in a couple of guys here on the second wave of free agency like: Poona Ford Arden Key Samson Ebukam
I think we’ve gotta bring in 2 more at least because Blackmon and Jones are pretty much useless IMO. Would really like to know what Poles thinks of Gipson and Robinson (kid from Miami,OH?), I could see one if not both given a big opportunity this year for better or worse. My prediction is Poles uses that draft capital next year to move on a big time Edge guy, whether it be trade up or trade for a stud. This defense is a poodle barking at an elephant until Flus gets a pass rush.
Monty is a steady hand but he's not explosive. I would rather invest in a R2 or R3 pick on a guy like Zach Evans or Zach Chardonnet
I don’t research this stuff but just looking from the surface I don’t see DL/pass rush getting fixed at this point. Just add smart deals and roll cap over so there’s money to fix it next offseason. If we splurge a bit let’s do it to help/protect Justin instead. I wish Brown Jr could be convinced to be a RT, he’s an all pro RT. He’s not going to get Trent Williams contract and that’s what he wants so it’ll be interesting what he decides to do.
I think our big spending is over. Probably add a couple second wave FA pickups for depth/placeholding... Next years FA market for the DL is insane. I would imagine a few of them will get extended and franchised tagged but its amazing
Saw this in the NFL thread. Dude just needs some humble pie and realize he can be all pro on the right side. I don’t know how crazy the highest RT contract is but OBJ would probably be worth it. He just has to be like dad though. I think Justin would be just fine with: Jones-Davis-Patrick-Jenkins-Brown Jr Borom swing tackle, Whitehair swing guard.
I'd like 2 more guys there, considering there's no way they're gonna keep Whitehair around as a backup guard for $9.9 million.
every mock I’ve seen him in has him going to Seattle, Detroit, or Vegas. I just don’t see him falling to 9. Seems the consensus as of now in the first 8 picks stroud Young Richardson Levis Anderson Carter Wilson One of the CBs are gone seems like there’s always a surprise pick in the top 10 so maybe someone will go off the board but it’s going to leave the bears most likely looking at skoronski, Johnson, Murphy, van ness, one of the remaining corners. Wouldn’t mind dropping back from 9 to 12-15 and picking up a third round pick or maybe a swap of 2nds
I feel like if he's not gone by 7 it's entirely possible a team trades ahead of us to get him anyway.
He has serious off-the-field concerns and serious in-game production concerns. I could see him falling quite a bit. Remember when the Raiders used first round picks on Henry Ruggs and Damon Arnette?
I think were primed for another trade back. Skoronski, Johnson don't wow me. If Carter doesn't fall I would love the trade back and pick up a 2nd in the top 50 in the process. All of those guys you mentioned are in the same tier of prospect with another 6 or 7 guys. Carter could still be in play based on the fact we always have one or two teams go off the grid on a selection nobody thought would go early.
now that we signed Davis, I’m out on skoronski. I’m also not sold on Johnson or not so sold on him I don’t think we could get an equivalent right tackle prospect 8-10 picks later
Poles has shown he can evaluate OL talent... He was part of the front office that rebuilt the KC OL and he was able to identify and select what looks to be an above average LT in the 5th round. Its one position I wont bitch on the selection or when they select them. I think OT and IOL are a must in the draft RB TE DL x 3 LB CB S We have 8 picks in the top 160 so we should be able to fill a bunch of those holes with good talent. The trade back route may nab you 1 or 2 more picks in the top 160 to address all those holes.
The Bears will be a perfect experiment of how much good pass rushers can cover up a ton of problems….but the opposite.
They can't fix every issue in one free agent class. I'm sure they will draft a couple of players for the DL. It will be better than last year but we can't and shouldn't expect them to be elite
Agree totally and I don’t expect them too. I don’t think the DLine will even be considered average this year and that’ll be a step up from last year lol. This year should be really fun but 2024 should be the most built for a serious run since Nagy’s 2nd year. Poles is gonna have draft capital, cap space, and 90% of his team built heading into next offseason, with only the DLine needing an overhaul.
Still gonna have a few holes this year but it will be a seriously upgraded roster regardless and should be fun. Then next off-season we *should* be positioned to become a contender
Everyone agree 2024 season *should* be the most promising since Nagy’s 2nd year? What was that 2019? I was at the last game we beat GB, on my birthday, to clinch the North.
