Would you look at that it's the first inning and the Cubs have allowed the opposing team to load the bases.
2nd and 3rd no outs and we get nothing. Schwarber can't catch a break. I'm going to pull my hair out.
Two on 1 out....zero runs. This team is so frustrating to watch. Pirates already have 3 errors in the second and we have zero runs.
Arrieta once again gets the hook prior to six innings. Six hits (four for extra-bases) two walks, two hit batters and the Cubs trail 4-2.
Jesus Christ this team fucking sucks. Bryant makes an error on a double play ball and here we are again in the first inning. Fucking awful.
And how you come in and walk a guy.... Throw strikes the worst that can happen is they hit a homerun and you're down 11.
Can we just throw in the towel and save the bullpen? All-Star break can't come soon enough. Maybe it will start pouring if they bat around long enough.
The Chicago Cubs reportedly offered Kyle Schwarber to the Detroit Tigers in a potential trade for Michael Fulmer. According to MLB Roundup's Twitter, Chicago called Detroit about their All-Star pitcher and dangled their World Series hero and power hitting outfielder in the process.
Dillon Maples is dominating double-A in late relief. He was a lottery ticket overslot back in 2011 and had finally started putting things together late last year. Him and Alzolay will almost certainly have to be rostered if they aren't dealt prior. Some background info on Maples from an article written two summers ago http://www.cubsinsider.com/2015/06/29/prospect-profile-the-return-of-dillon-maples-two-years-later/ Baseball America, last week, noted his strong season Righthander Dillon Maples was a big-arm overdraft in the final draft of the previous regime, taken in the 14th round in 2011 out of a North Carolina high school. He had been so disappointing since then that leaving him unprotected in the Rule 5 draft was a no-brainer. But after a strong finish at South Bend as a closer last season, he took off at high Class A Myrtle Beach this year, with a 2.01 ERA, 44 strikeouts and a .188 opponent average in 31.1 innings, which earned him his first promotion to Double-A Tennessee. “We’ve got a lot of tough (40-man) roster decisions this offseason,” Madison said. “He’s one of them.” Maples, 25, still has the elite velocity—he touched 100 mph this season—with a excellent breaking ball. “He’s always had potential and always shown signs and shown flashes of what he could do, but he could never put the pieces together to have success,” Madison said. “He’s really just taken off and excited everyone that’s seen him so far. Except for the hitters.”
It's interesting that the cubs are at least now willing to move Schwarber for a pitcher. I wouldn't be surprised if he's eventually moved for a cost controlled young arm.
I guess I didn't understand your example, because we gave up a solid starter for a bad reliever and a bad pitcher, production wise, and they turned out to be fantastic. Or was that not what you were saying?
