He only has a year left on his deal… He’s gone if this team doesn’t finish above .500 and I think that’s a good thing for this franchise. Curious what new leadership with the wallet would look like.
Good thing we let Estrada go so we could keep mastraboni and madrigal on the 40. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/estraje01.shtml
I am greatly confused by the roster decisions this team continues to make. How is Brewer on this roster? Why was Lovelady on this roster? Why is Mastrubuoni on this roster? How is Tyson Millet any kind of answer in the pen?
Brewer makes no sense and should be dfa’d. They’ve been signing a bunch of old mlb pitchers to minor league deals, just give one of them the role. Jorge Lopez makes obvious sense. Lovelady isn’t here anymore but a lot of this just comes back to them not addressing the pen in the offseason. It was already likely thin and they probably assumed huge jumps from Luke little and Daniel palencia. And obviously expected alzolay to not fall off a cliff and Merryweather to not need a 60 day IL stint. I don’t think they’re even a little bit tied to mastrobuoni. But he provided necessary roster flexibility because he was the only bench player who could play short. If this season is really continuing to go down this path, they need to start the clock on some of their youth and dfa him. Tyson miller has been good and basically the only example of them trying to fix the pen mid season, so I wouldn’t throw stones on that one.
Also I don’t think Jed loses his job unless it completely spirals out of control. Tom will have stern language how this is unacceptable and changes will be made if they don’t improve quickly, but that’ll just be to appease the season ticket holders (it won’t work but most of them are resigning anyways). Based on Toms comments before the season as well as how they handled the offseason, I don’t think either Tom or Jed felt this was a competitive team worth going into the tax for. Of course they thought they have their cake and eat it too by still being able to win a projected to be bad division and that’s blown up in their faces
It’s mid June and they’re dead last in the worst division in baseball. The only thing worse than their performance are some of the opinions the last couple of pages. This team fucking sucks and Hoyer has to go.
If this is in reference to my post, I think he should be fired. I don’t think he will be fired though. Very different things.
The offensive struggles are frustrating but they at least are somewhat explainable by some horrendous luck with RISP. This inability to hold absolutely any lead given to the bullpen is just debilitating.
Poor boy Tom is trying to charge the rooftops a lot more than they had previously contractually agreed to https://www.sportico.com/law/analys...igley-field-rooftop-seats-lawsuit-1234784966/ The increase in profit cannot be worth the damage done to his or the Cubs' reputation I fuckin hate this guy
we don’t have anyone worth trading and they’ll feed us some bullshit about being a couple games out of the wildcard
Why is Colten brewer still on this team? I know that question can be applied to like 7 guys on their major league roster but man do I fucking hate this guy the most right now
Pretty rude of this team to kill all our spirits before finding their stride again. But fuck it, it’s just good to see watchable cubs baseball again Edit: spoke too soon
Exactly the type of guy we’ve been drafting of late. A bare minimum big leaguer with upside if he can iron out one part of his game.
I've been tuned out since we went into a tailspin after a month so had no idea it was this bad...18 BS already?
Yeah, the bullpen is horrendously bad and yet we still have a shot at a wild card position. The only team with more losses from their bullpen is the White Sox.
You could apply that to more than just blown saves, though How many times have we fucked up with RISP? Probably more than 20 other teams, at least
The injuries, especially in the pen have fucked us badly. Add to that hitting woes and unexpected defensive lapses have derailed a really strong start to the season. Getting healthy, getting some help in the pen and trading for a power bat would be nice... or trade Belly, Tallion and free some salary for next season.
Wrigleyville is dying First they came for our taco bell, then they came for our eamus catuli What's next? This is an eyesore. Fuckin capitalist pigs.
We have the second worst batting average in baseball with RISP. It’s just killing us how we can get guys on and then do absolutely nothing with them once they’re there.
