This has truly been an eye-opening experience. I have been appalled at the number of RN's Nurse practitioners, ect that have been posting shit like "the seasonal flu is more deadly" and "it's just a cold it's been here for years" ect. Truly mind blowing
My scientific opinion is that people who post memes are the same people that went to bars last night. Prove me wrong.
i’m guessing they close all bars, restaurants, movie theaters, gyms, and so on in the next day or so kill any travel that’s not domestic too i think they’re too stupid to try and enact a lockdown and let people travel within the US tho, and ultimately it doesn’t help a whole lot because of that reason
I was of the opinion bars and restaurants would close on their own after people stopped showing up to them in fear of this then i saw the pics and videos from yesterday...
a good friend of mine spent the week in new orleans at a tattoo competition. i asked if he was concerned about catching anything and he said "no everything at the event is very sterile". while i'm sure thats true, only 16 or so hours were spent in that environment. he's kind of dumb sometimes.
I see two scenarios: 1. The government figures this shit out and steps in, and society changes for the better. We learn money and stuff really don’t matter and change our values. 2. Complete societal decay. Imm sure there is something in-between, but I’m unsure how people will react when food becomes scarce or if utilities are interrupted.
Fucking gross. 81% approval in handling this is laughable. And only 30% planning to stop large gatherings is scary. I have some MAGA idiot acquaintance on social media who was at a huge wedding last night. My hope is that this becomes very real for people in the next few days. Because the status quo is a disaster.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sa...proceeds-despite-cancellation?template=ampart Tybee Island St Paddy's day parade was cancelled but still went on, unsanctioned, and in the middle of traffic causing a shit show.
Minor in the scheme of things, but I'm disgusted with some of these bar owners. They normally run their social media accounts with tons of daily story posts about how cool their bar is on any given night. Friday/Saturday they all went dead silent but continued to stay open, which I knew from seeing people's stories at their crowded fucking bars. To the owners, fuck you. You aren't shedding moral responsibility because you didn't run your IG account for a weekend but kept your bar open for hundreds/thousands of people to be in direct close contact.
Had a feeling things were gonna get weird here so when I went to my favorite coffee roaster I re up’d and got three bags instead of my normal one, they announced they’re closing for three weeks starting today at least I’ll be caffeinated
I have a bad head cold right now. Not concerned about it being corona because it's all in my sinuses and lots of sneezing. However, any time I cough or sneeze people around me look panicked.
we really need it to hit home how serious this is before next weekend. I don’t think we can afford another weekend with bars and restaurants full.
The problem is the owners still have to pay the bills. Unless a huge government bailout comes, you will see people continue to act in their financial interest, again unless you alleviate them. Your basic critique of capitalism.
Oh and the CHURCHES that are open this morning. My goodness, next to nursing homes, that has to have the highest % of the elderly. I guess they gotta take the offerings while they can
My kids daycare isn’t closed this coming week as of now. I don’t believe those types of mass closings are happening for a little while longer unfortunately.
we had to break the news to our daycare that nc schools have closed. no plans to close yet. not great
my kids daycare is open as of now as well. I can only assume they’re doing everything they can to make sure they can charge us for the coming weeks and safety is secondary.
There is a middle ground between operating at full capacity and a socially responsible opening of a bar. Maybe limiting capacity while putting up signs for people to practice social distancing. What they dead yesterday is certainly not the answer.
I honestly don’t think people have the information necessary to make these decisions unless they’re actively seeking it out.
We were told they’re screening all parents next week. Idk if that means temperature gun, questioning if they’ve traveled or what. I keep checking my email and expect them to cancel before tomorrow but we’ll see. I’d probably get shamed if I asked to work from home before closings so not sure what I’m doing yet if they’re open.
They have people who depend on them. It’s a total shit spot. It’s probably best to close your doors immediately, but now you just fucked all of your employees. It’s rough, people are being put in a position that they have to try and reason this at their own pace. Until some type of relief gets started, business owners will continue to operate the best way they know how. So it’s really easy to call all of these people assholes and browbeat the fuck out of them, but not all of them are operating with complete disregard for human life — many are confused and very scared not knowing what comes next.
Yeah if all you’re consuming is media coverage telling you this is a mild flu and we shouldn’t panic, then why wouldn’t you go out to bars?
