Here’s a fancy list so those who haven’t heard of Wuhan can be familiar with 44 other metro areas larger than 10M people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_cities (we only have 2)
You guys probably couldn't even point out Wuhan on the map, you uncultured rubes! Spoiler I totally had heard of Wuhan before last week. I promise
Medical news Reporting: death toll skyrockets to 170! not news reporting: but increasing numbers of diagnosed cases means mortality rate is plummeting. again, most severe cases are being diagnosed quicker and milder cases are likely missed in the first wave. This will inevitably be a pretty infectious virus with a less than 1% mortality in first world countries (excluding America because our healthcare is shiiiiiiit)
Wuhan is the 9th largest city in China, that would be like someone living in the US not knowing what a Dallas is.
India should jump them by 2030. Nigeria is the real growth country. They are around 200M and are gonna jump us in the near future.
Also, for reference (and yes, the number is likely a bit higher than reported, but doubt it is off by 5x), SARS had fewer cases and ~5 times as many deaths.
It's a bit different over there if you don't have the curiosity to learn the geography. Once you get away from the east coast cities, the only really well-known spots are Tibet (obvi not a city), Chengdu (which is a stretch...most probably know Sichuan, not the capital), maybe Chongqing. It's pretty understandable to not know Wuhan if only living in China for three months, especially given Americans' (completely lacking) penchant for geography.
I have no clue tbqh. I think they have a total of 400-500 kids in total at the school. My son is only in Kindergarten so I’ve got no clue on student breakdown. I would guess10-15% or that number is part of the exchange program or has ties with people from China. I was pretty surprised to see that email go out. The exchange/International program is fantastic and a big reason why we picked the school. Those kids get amazing experiences I could only have dreamed having. lol... I think we are getting to the point as these numbers get larger where it’s only going to increase the overreaction
It’s a private school with lots of ugh... well off family’s who donate a lot of money who probably freaked out to the school director and people in charge that caused this. And typing that is weird because a lot of parents are doctors or in the medical field so they should have a better perspective to this entire event.
Friend at UC Riverside said they had a case there either earlier today or late last night. not sure if it's confirmed or not though
I love geography so I guess I’m the exception. Whenever I travel somewhere new I always read up on it as much as I can.
i went to cities like beijing, xi'an, shanghai, hong kong, macau. is there anything about wuhan that i missed? i feel like its easier to know a lot of the cities in europe because you've heard of sports teams from there. in china, there wasn't really any major leagues at the time that were socially prevalent enough for me to pick up on
other outbreaks receiving that designation: 2009 swine flu 2014 polio 2014 ebola 2016 zika 2018-2020 kivu ebola 2020 wuhan coronavirus 2013 mers is classified as "non-declaration"
I once went to Meizhou to visit a factory. Thought for sure it’d be rural. It’s bigger than metro Denver.
China instituted an export ban on N95 and P100 products US construction industry is feeling the pain already, everyone is wiped out of inventory
I mean no one has respirators anywhere in stock in Ohio left. We just had a manufacturer call looking for 50,000 pieces for his employees because they import parts from China for Honda cars. He has 2,000 employees, they are shutting the water fountains off. So they ordered 100,000 water bottles today. Wild shit Bezos is probably in the same boat
Perhaps...I had just looked this morning for N95s and seemed to be plentiful vendors (doesn't mean they aren't quickly running out of stock, obviously) Also, it's moronic to worry about car parts carrying the virus.
