I scroll through the 1,000 page Covid thread because I think there is a lot of good information in there but there is also a bunch of posts that I find to wildly offensive but I don't comment. I don't feel the need to argue with an anonymous poster on the internet about it. In 15 minutes in this thread, you've apparently researched my entire post history and hit me with the 'chud' straw man fallacy. There is no point in the discussion other than achieving 'likes'. We'll likely never meet face to face so it just doesn't matter. I'm friends with many folks, on this very board, that align on both sides of the aisle politically. Weird how we remain friends/civil and politics don't seem to come up when we're hanging out. I've said my peace and will no longer derail the thread. Carry on, gents.
Not looking good for the Cali schools. I'm going to focus my thoughts and prayers for Korey Foreman to randomly choose OU. We could really use some defensive help
I find that example to be extremely reasonable. But not reflective of the typical political hijacking of a thread. You might post something like that (with some added snark I might add but whatevs). The reality is that response often is more similar to "Thinking we can open in June? My oh my you must be on the dole from the Trump organization. LOL. Get fucked chud." And then off we go for 3 pages. That's not a quote so don't ask me to doc it, illustrative.
you whined about someone making fun of trump so I typed obama in the search with your name, took half a second to just see if you used to whine about politics when this board was vast majority right wingers seemed like no your criticism rings hollow due to that was all
No idea if they'll attempt the season but I doubt we'll get a completed season until a treatment or vaccine.
ignore it, or make your case i understand i and some others on here were talking politics back when this board was the complete reverse of what it is now so I find the whining a little dramatic about getting shit thrown your way
The biggest threat to all of this - IMO - is some huge second flareup that's nationwide as many in the COVID thread are predicting. Some localized flareups with hospitals handling the load I think barely makes the news by July. In this specific scenario it wouldn't surprise me to see not only seasons but fans at like 20% capacity (wearing masks, Purrell everywhere, etc...). Not necessarily the correct thing, but how I read the terrain and what we all know about how money motivates
I took a break from board from 2011 to late 2019 so I'm sorry that happened, I wasn't around to see it. If there's a thread (or multiple) of you getting jumped by right-wingers way back then by all means send and I'll STFU.
"I went through your post history and then cross referenced that with the political demographics of the board during the Obama administration. Based upon the absence of criticism towards political discourse, I can safely extrapolate that you are in fact a Trumptard." Great argument...
I live in Ohio where we have a R Governor that has been strict about closings and reopening. He has said that sports need to be the last thing to come back. Other members of his party have said that there will be an insurrection if we don’t have football in September. Is it still not political? A player in the English 2nd division has written for The Athletic about not being comfortable playing games and getting tested when there are issues for the general public getting tested and the optics of that. Should he keep politics out of it as well? Or it that okay because he’s a professional athlete. He’s white if that makes a difference
I never learned how to search content but you piqued my interest. These 'thanks, obama' quips just littering THEHEBREW threads as well as gaming and Oklahoma threads. My fault, everyone.
i'll pm you them to avoid an insane derail this would cause by itself if you actually want i've been called miserable on this board going back to inception, please be original
Oh, boy, you got me there. One post, 10 years ago, an emoticon, in an era that didn't include 'likes'. What an era that was.
Just to clarify: I said we don’t know the full burden yet. I also said C19 has been documented to attack every major organ system, and that there have been many cases where recovered people experience symptoms such as shortness of breath for several weeks. This last example reflects a short term health impact. We won’t understand the long term impacts until much more time has passed.
I am actually interested in seeing a big conservative pile-on. Would seem almost dystopian relative to the board now.
Sure would be nice to be able to find the relevant sports info without having to filter through all of this bullshit.
Pac 12 isn’t happening. I actually think sec is gonna go on with it, even if it has to be a round robin of just sec teams.
The logistical portion of it is irrevocably tied to the political decisions of local, state, and federal politicians. Beyond the availability of testing (a federal political decision), there’s the bans on gatherings above a certain number of people (state and local political decisions), and whether colleges are in person or online (usually elected BOT members). The medical aspect is (tragically) political as well when one political party shows such open disdain for the very notion of subject matter expertise (see the criticism of Dr. Fauci coming from right wing media). These are the discussions that decide whether if not the world finally gets to see Jim Harbaugh win the marry this year (as CFB experts acknowledge is the most likely outcome of a full CFB season).
I think we're looking at what amounts to an exhibition season to try and keep athletic department budgets afloat. There will be conference titles and the return of a mythical national champ...but..it's an exhibition season. like an 8-game season for those that play, no bowls, no playoff
In fairness, your only posts itt have been to whine about politics. If you want to talk about sports during the covid pandemic, no one is holding you back.
Imo it will be a delayed start and without fans. Think issue is do you go with abbreviated season or push back the full season altogether. Fans, I can't see absent red state recklessness disregard for life. And Football is the most difficult of the major sports to resume from a player safety standpoint, so lot more issues to iron out than other sports; absent the mass introduction of a vaccine or therapeutic drugs. Toughest sell right now for College Presidents and State Governors is explaining to the populace that society can exist without sports. Sports aren't life-and-death. And the quickest way back to sports resumption is, in the short term, physical distancing.
god damn brain worms people have ruined this board, not politics politics just exposed the brain worms
Theory - a person who makes an interesting apolitical post in the midst of a political tangent does more to spur apolitical discussion than complaining about the current discussion.
You know what electronic you're alright, especially after that Champs drop in yesterday. This ground has already been tread, I've exchanged multiple PM's with Lyrtch for god's sake. Let's get back to Chud-Abusin and firing those worm-brains in to the sun, with a little sports talk peppered in
I, admittedly, derailed the intent of the thread with my tangent. I'm done with it now and I apologize that it clogged up two pages of worthless content, including this very post. I hope the discourse moves back to the topic at hand; sports.
You seem to think that long term is a week or two recovered. I think of it more as years down the road.
There's an 85 man roster + walkons + coaches (some whom would be at risk/comorbidities) + strength staff + nutrition + medical staff + anyone else this lists forgets (who also may be at risk). That's one team. Then there are refs, tv crew, sideline personnel for making sure the game/clocks go according to plan, team media, etc... It seems like fantasy land to think a cfb season ever happens unless you have red states go super fucking reckless like Fran Tarkenton said. I mean Nick Saban is 68 and would be at risk for the highest profile example I can think of. That doesn't even get into whether some states even have classes/lockdowns/etc...
To be fair, I scrolled past most of it. But just knowing Lyrtch's tendency to Lyrtch, he made an easy scapegoat.
