My prediction for the rest of the night is that we go defense and then trade back into the third for Tyree Jackson.
As always, Quinn is just smarter than everybody! Just take every player 20-30 spots before any other team would take them and you're golden. You get everybody you want!
I have no clue about this guy and have never seen him play, but people who think they no when someone will be picked based on internet scouting reports are weird.
I'm shocked he's still there. In terms of guys who got a lot of love from the internet gurus, it seemed like Layne was pushing his way into the round 1 conversation a few weeks ago. I would have been really happy with him in round 2.
I'm not sure I follow. It's fine to say you don't like the pick. I don't really know anything about the guy and I'm not a huge fan based on what I've seen. But that doesn't mean you or I know when other teams would have taken him. There are multiple reports already that several other teams considered him in the 2nd round range.
Teams picking at the back of the 2nd round 'liked him.' Does that mean anybody was taking him at that spot? Or liked him at 43, rather than 62? And what's the difference between reports of teams being interesting at the back of the second round and scouting reports putting him in the 3rd to 5th round? You trust the Pats throwing shit out there more than the scouting site that had him in the 230s?
I don't really trust any of it. I don't know if the Lions are right about him, but I'd be more concerned if they were running their scouting department based on how other teams or internet draft gurus felt about players. If you think he's worth that pick, you can't just not pick him because other teams may not like him as much as you.
I'm confused by this, as well. I'm not sure how a 3rd safety is more important than a CB with starting ability.
Quinn is smarter than everybody. Just roll with it. I'd be happy with the Steelers draft. Of course, that's a better organization than we have.
I have a friend who decided to make a website where he basically just compiles mock drafts and made a consensus mock draft and consensus player rankings and now he talks like he is a fucking expert on the draft. He is sending me texts like "I had so and so the 3rd best CB" as if he is a scout and knows what he is talking about. In reality he just has a lot of time on his hand to make and compile mock draft spreadsheets basically. It's funny, the mock draft guys all think they know more than the teams and their scouting departments.
A TE in the first and special teamers in the 2nd and 3rd. Perfect for a team that lost in the conference championship game, doesn't have any glaring weaknesses and is picking at the back of those rounds.
I'm an SID and do the official stats at all of my school's home games. 10 years ago, I was working a baseball doubleheader and the guy who was announcing was a SR at the school. He got a job working for free for an internet draft site a few months before that. For the entirety of that doubleheader, he was going on and on about how the Lions would be stupid to draft Stafford #1 because he was positive that Aaron Curry was the best LB prospect in a decade. Also told me Alex Mack was the best C prospect in at least 10 years. The kid was 22 years old and was dead serious about all of it. I laughed my ass off for 5 hours.
The point is that Quinn likes guys WAY before anybody else likes them. Quinn is taking guys he wants and passing on guys everybody else wants. Maybe he's better than everybody else, but we don't have proof of that yet.
I'd give him the benefit of the doubt but so far he hasn't drafted a pro-bowler, impact player or even any player that seems like they're on their way to being either. Bunch of middle of the pack to slightly above average starters. This draft alone he's already redrafted for a previous 1st and 3rd rounder
I think Quinn values intangibles very highly. I think a pretty good argument can be made that he significantly overvalues them until we see something on the field that suggests otherwise. I think most of the players they've taken who would be considered reaches share a lot of the same qualities in that regard.
I also think Patricia's value scale when it comes to defense is different from most teams. He values LBs and S more than most, and seems to think he can find/develop corners and a pass rush. If there's a "I'm smarter than everyone else" quality in the draft room in the organization, I think it's that + the intangibles thing.
