An article on The Athletic listed us as a team that should pursue a Timo Meier, which is something I mentioned here a month or so ago. He’s the kind of guy that could really help move this thing forward. I don’t know that we would make such a move but he tops my wishlist.
Yzerman has been bitten by the vrana situation, Bert continuing injuries and other rash of injuries but this team as a whole certainly isn't where I'd expect them to be this year. Still too many stinker games. This off-season will be huge.
What do you think that contract will be? 8x10? He’ll be a PPG winger for four seasons before his production slowly depreciates.
I didn’t watch any of the game last night, but that was a nice win. Unfortunately though, it sounds like Bertuzzi has a lower body injury that caused him to miss the second half of the game. Bert’s trade value is basically shot, but I also think the chances of him accepting a lesser deal here have decreased as well. He will head to UFA to get the best deal he can after all the injuries this season, so hopefully he’s healthy enough in a week or two to at least play a few games so he can be dealt for something.
I don’t like Pagnotta but he is tied into agents because he’s a lapdog, so I buy that Brisson’s side is telling him the deal isn’t good enough.
This came across as pure “send your lapdog to the media to push for a better deal”. I bet that larkin is closer to being at the number he wants than that.
I would agree that the number Larkin is comfortable with doesn’t likely jive with what his agents think he’s worth. It’s all part of the dance. I imagine this gets settled at 8.71 AAV because again, NHL players love having their jersey # in the final number.
8x8-9M seems fair to me for a ~PPG two-way center who is a home state captain, so I’m good with that number.
9 is the limit for me. It’s less than Barzal got and I think Larkin is a slightly worse player than Barzal. That’s really my only logic for not wanting to exceed 9.
Any updates on Bertuzzi? Pronman listed Mazur and Wallinder as some of his half-season risers among NHL prospects: Mazur: Spoiler Mazur’s significant upward trend of development over the last few years has carried into this season, where he’s been one of the very best players in college hockey. His skating and compete level have always been positives in his game, but the level of offense he’s showing right now is quite significant compared to a few seasons ago. Mazur can shoot the puck, has good hands and offensive sense to go with his speed and direct style of play. He’s looking like someone who could be a top six winger in the NHL one day. Wallinder: Spoiler Wallinder has been excellent in the SHL this season, as the 20-year-old has been one of the top players for Rogle. As a 6-foot-4 defenseman who can skate quite well for his size and is showing a lot of offense this season, you can one day envision Wallinder in an NHL top four. His defending and physicality could use some improvement, but he’s not deficient as a defender. The tools he has distinguish him as a pro prospect, especially with the level of skill and playmaking he’s showing right now.
I’m fine with him getting some games in Detroit but I think he needs a full year in GR. Big jump from potting goals for the #1 team in the country against NCHC competition. Only 6 assists in 24 games this season. His unsubstainable shooting percentage will come back down to earth at some point.
Yeah I don’t think he should play in Detroit come next season but I’d be fine burning a year of his ELC to ensure he signs now.
Seravalli The belief is the Boston Bruins, Seattle Kraken, Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild are among the teams who have inquired about Horvat with Vancouver, with varying levels of interest.
I am an unabashed Horvat fan, so this is one of those rumors that intrigues me. His age is a bit scary but his game should age well enough, and while he definitely isn’t the 50 goal pace player he’s been this season, 25-30 a year for the next 4-5 years should be expected. Horvat is also a big intangibles guy, which certainly doesn’t hurt. Now, I’m not sure what the cost looks like for a guy like him, because Vancouver wants roster players back. If Vrana were in a better situation, you start there, but if not him, you’re probably looking at Hronek, Rasmussen and picks. I’m not against that kind of offer (I would not want to deal a 1 with Hronek) but I’m not sure it gets the deal done. At a minimum I hope the interest in Horvat is sincere because he gives you another top six C.
So in the last 48 hours both Helene St. James and Ansar Khan have put out stories that Detroit wants Larkin back but that they are still pursuing a 1C like Horvat to pair with Larkin. Both are saying the sides are in agreement on an 8 year deal, and now it’s bridging the gap from the 8 mil Detroit is offering and the 9 mil Larkin’s camp wants. Considering those two are state sponsored media, it’s likely being leaked directly from Yzerman:
I'm on board with being buyers and sellers. A lot of prospects in system that if we could turn into a top line player who is under 28 or so I think you do it (of course depends on whose involved). At same time I'm on board with trading some of the pending FA.

https://octopusthrower.com/2023/01/26/detroit-red-wings-3-blockbuster-trade-bo-horvat/ Trying to guess potential trade packages and found this. Writer gave 3 potential packages, not sure how close he is to what it actually would take. Save you a click 1 : Ras, Veleno, Johansson 2 : Veleno, Hronek 3. Vrana (50% salary retention), Zadina Johansson
Absolutely embarrassing effort tonight. I love Larkin, but if he wants 9 mil a year, go get it somewhere else. These are games your 9 mil a year guys should shine, and he was as bad as anyone else on the Wings.
I’ve been saying it all year. You need to trade him at the deadline. Nobody is giving him $9 million a year. He’s a #2 center. might be time to start questioning the Yzerplan too. He won in Tampa with two superstars on his roster. That seems to be the only way you can win now in NHL. This team doesn’t have that, and won’t have that unless they win the lottery.
